Capac wrote:I get that people aren't huge fans of the CoE but I think they're being a bit harsh on it. It filled a very important niche in the Australian player development sector at a time when we were struggling. It was used as a way for the best players in australia to get access to the best coaching and resources at a time when the coaching standards throughout youth systems across the country were sub par. The CoE was essentially the pioneer for the new playing style, even the local state programs were pretty poor up till about 5-4 years ago, with the national curriculum really only being taken up by clubs on mass in the last couple of years.
I think if we are getting to a stage where we no longer need it then that's most likely a good thing, it shows that standards for youth development have improved. If we can start producing players like those in the U16s without having to have a centralised academy then that's a major plus. If they do close the CoE down I hope they invest that money back into making coaching course cheaper and more accessible to the public. Even if we do keep the state NTCs hopefully they can be a part of the multiple pathways open to junior players, alongside european clubs, local clubs and A-League clubs.
Some good points made here.

Australia kicks off its 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign on Monday morning (AEDT) against world football powerhouse Germany, aiming to upset the pre-match predictions and cause a boilover at the Estadio Municipal Nelson Oyarzun Arenas in Chillan, Chile. Source: SBS 18 OCT 2015 - 11:45 AM UPDATED 8 HOURS AGO 0
Watch the Joeys at the FIFA U-17 World Cup LIVE on SBS SBS will broadcast all three of Australia's group stage games at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile - LIVE and free on SBS in HD and streamed online. Despite the tricky Group C schedule that includes matches against Mexico and then Argentina, Joeys coach Tony Vidmar said there was a sense of enthusiasm around the Joeys heading into the first game.
“We’re just 24 hours away from our opening game now, and we’re very, very excited,” Vidmar said.
“Our preparations have been really good. We’ve covered everything that we possibly can and we’re ready to go out there and give a good performance.”
Adding to the pre-match tension, FFA U-16 and U-17 technical director Peter de Roo fired a warning shot to those that have already written off the Joeys chances of getting the better of Germany.
“The Germans are beatable,” De Roo said.
“They’re a very good side – you don’t make the UEFA European U-17 Championship final if you’re a bad side – but we’ve analysed footage of at least eight games.
“We’ve seen their strong points, and their weak points, and we definitely see opportunities and weaknesses that can be exploited.”
A win in any of the three group stage games will put the Joeys in a strong position to qualify for the next stage of the competition.
The top-two placed teams in each group will automatically qualify for the Round of 16, while the best four third-placed teams from across the six groups will also advance.
Joeys FIFA U-17 World Cup squad: Panos Armenakas (Udinese), Daniel Arzani (FFA Centre of Excellence), Jackson Bandiera (FFA Centre of Excellence), Jake Brimmer (Liverpool), Joe Caletti (FFA Centre of Excellence), James Delianov (FFA Centre of Excellence), Lucas Derrick (Melbourne Victory), Charlie Devereux (FFA Centre of Excellence), Duro Dragicevic (FFA Centre of Excellence), Perry Fotakopoulos (FFA Centre of Excellence), Josh Hope (FFA Centre of Excellence), Cameron Joice (FFA Centre of Excellence), Josh Laws (Fortuna Dusseldorf), Nicholas Panetta (FFA Centre of Excellence), Thomas Prinsen (PEC Zwolle), Aaron Reardon (FFA Centre of Excellence), Kye Rowles (FFA Centre of Excellence), Nicholas Sorras (Unattached), Jonathan Vakirtzis (Melbourne Victory), Malcolm Ward (FFA Centre of Excellence), Pierce Waring (Melbourne Victory).

Do results matter for this tournament or will we be crapping on about triangles, playing out from the back and BPO stats in the morning?

The World Game had a interesting discussion today on what can be achieved in this tournament, let's be honest they up against it with the teams they got. We should not be too hard on these kids if they give it their best and play to their style they have been trained, that's what i want to see regardless if they can get a result or two.

Do i expect they can nick a result playing dour defensive football against higher opposition they are facing? Who knows but i prefer these lads just play to their style and learn from the moments which would benefit them in the long run win lose or draw.
But if they can get a result or two(No expected) then thats great. :)

Just wondering what the prevailing opinions are. Personally I'm hoping for a win. Route 1 or a 20 pass move. Couldn't care less.
