+xWe finish this tournament undefeated. Two 6-0 wins, followed by a 2-2 draw with regional powerhouse Korea.Sensational results from Arnie 👏 If we got offered that before the tournament started, most of us would've bit their hands off. Well done to all.

+xWe'd be safe as houses with our GD in 2nd if it wasn't for Pakistan dropping out and making results against top 3 only counting for the top 4 runners up. Just have to wait and see re the other groups. Apparently we're through regardless.

happy with that, not a fan of the last 15 minutes, but both teams didn't want to lose.

Wiki seems to think we're already a lock for one of the top runner up spots, perhaps because a lot of the other eligible teams only have games against the last placed team remaining?
Pakistan really made this confusing.

If we go gung-ho to try and get the win (when we - and I cannot stress this enough - qualify with a draw) and cop a goal that eliminates us, I guarantee most of you would be complaining that we didn't play sensible football.
Some of these comments are fucking idiotic.

First half was fantastic. Incredibly disappointing how we shut of after 45min. Nevertheless we seem to have done enough.

If the final tournament hosts Thailand win their group or are among the four best runners-up, the fifth best runner-up also qualifies for the final tournament.

+xWiki is showing us as through If I'm reading all the other groups results right, then only potentially Myanmar can finish above us in the runners-up table as they beat their 3rd place team by 7 goals. All the other top 2 sides beat their third place by less than our margin (6-0), so if they draw we'd be ranked ahead of them on goal difference. If matches between the top two sides in other groups end in a win/loss, then the second team would finish below us on 3 points and we'd beat them. tl;dr we're a mathematical certainty to go through.

I'm just really confused. I hate it when points against the bottom side don't count and throw it into even more complication.

+xWiki seems to think we're already a lock for one of the top runner up spots, perhaps because a lot of the other eligible teams only have games against the last placed team remaining? Pakistan really made this confusing. A +6 goal difference regardless of whoever finishes 3rd in our group guarantees that we do advance. For other games between 1st and second that end in draws, the second placed team from that group will be below us on GD. If one team wins, the second placed team from that group ends up with 2 wins and a loss, whilst we have 2 wins and a draw.

So it appears the majority of teams have either 2 wins or 2 losses meaning a draw between the top teams just wouldn't be enough as our goal difference is quite superior.

After how we outplayed them in the first half we should have taken advantage in the scoreline either 3 or 4 1 up.
But teams like South Korea are good sides and we just invited pressure by sitting off too deeply, time and time again our composure and our mentality is letting us down.
But if someone else me told we take a draw with a team like South Korea i would have taken it.
The last 10 minutes were disgraceful, painful to watch no ambition by both teams especially our boys given we conceded from 2-0 nil up.

Currently Cambodia leads 1-0. If they go on and win or draw the game then Taiwan would be the 4th placed team in the group. That would leave us with a win and a draw and GD of +6 while best Korea would have the same points but a GD of +5. Would that move us up to top of our group?

I believe results against the bottom team still count for deciding first place in each group.
Results against the bottom team only don’t count when ranking the second-place teams overall.
(I think)

+xI believe results against the bottom team still count for deciding first place in each group. Results against the bottom team only don’t count when ranking the second-place teams overall. (I think) This is correct. Due to groups having different number of teams (after the withdrawal of Pakistan from Group F), the results against the fourth-placed teams in four-team groups are not considered for this ranking.

We're through. All West Asia groups have 6,6,0,0 with the top two all playing each other later today. This means that the a draw would see them equal on points with Australia but no increase to their already inferior GD.
Should a team win the match, they'll go up to 9 points to top their group while the respective 2nd placed side will only see 3 of their 6 points count towards the 2nd placed table due to 3 of those 6 points total being obtained against the 4th placed side in the group. Australia has 4 points and an unattainable GD on the 2nd placed ranking.

Don't know if you noticed but they totally played us off the park from the start of the second half until they scored. We're lucky they gave up, if they went for the jugular I don't know if we could've held on.

Vietnam flogged Thailand 4-0.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

+xVietnam flogged Thailand 4-0. Seriously terrifying at youth level, these guys. When they make it count at senior level we'll be glad Asia gets eight spots.

Well look at that Pot 1. Shows how good Vietnam are and Uzbekistan are defending champions. Vietnam Japan Australia Iran in a group and we'll be in massive trouble even with that decent 1st half today.
We can almost kiss Tokyo goodbye sadly.
