A good win, still a lot to improve on. Amazing how slow we are these days. There are no more fast or physical footballers . Brook scored a nice goal d'arrigo came up with a couple of nice passes but we largely struggled to create any chances against a very defensive tean

Brook scored a nice goal d'arrigo came up with a couple of nice passes but we largely struggled to create any chances against a very defensive tean Their is a big shift from the players we’re previously produced where they were known for their speed and strength, and now we almost gone full opposite and we are starting to produce technically proficient players since the new era in 2010. I noticed a lot of the current guys in the Joeys and young Socceroos teams is they have no problem with technique but lack in other areas especially physically, is this because of their lack of development or how they are coached? Who knows. The exciting part is what happens if we get the development right especially in the key area of 16-21? Plenty of young talent coming through.

I think it’s obvious.
Lowy leaves.
We start winning international youth tournaments.
Well done Steven. Fear for the future no more!

+xGood win though, missed the game so I’ve only seen the scoreline, how did we go though? the passing speed has increased from previous year we are a fraction more conservative too. Not much, 10% or so but it did mean we got outpossessed by vietnam technical standard was same as previous years. Finishing has gone from awful from a few years ago to below average. Take ons and creativity is creativity as it has been for the last few years thats my opinion anyway

Fear for the future no more! @Waz How many Roar academy players were in the squad and were any starters/subs? In the starting line up, WS Wanderers had 2 current academy players (Pagden and Monge) and 3 former academy players (Kristian Popovic, Dylan Ruiz-diaz and Aquilina). Coming on as substitute were current WS Wanderers Academy players Constable and Carluccio. Kristian Popovic looks a chip off the Popovic block just looks more mobile.

Given the likes of Italiano and Grozos to potentially come in there is more technical types coming through these days, hopefully GVE can find some more players especially in defence as this has been our Achilles heel of late. They got qualifiers later in the year, so we should see more players coming in the squad but plenty of good signs nevertheless.

Had an outstanding game against Leeds. Perhaps Mohammed Adam as well.

Missed the second half but congrats on the win. This was the first time I have watched them but I thought the general play was pretty good, dominated the game from what I saw, moved it around well, all tactically and structurally aware. The only thing holding them back is the cutting edge up front. I really like Tilio, technically and creatively he is really good, just needs to get a bit more hungry and disciplined and he will be great. I liked the look of the other SFC lad also, Fay at LB, defensively good and good in the buildup but could do at bit more in attack, I haven't seen him in the NYL so I assume he is still playing for the U20's but keen to see some more of him. I thought Popovic looked decent as well, he will be a big lad and looks like he will command that DM area nicely, other than that, all round looked like a good amount of prospects coming through.

U20s for 2021 are 01s and 02s, maybe some 03s
u17s 2019 WC are 02s and 03s, maybe some 04s
next u17s qualifiers have started and are 04s and 05s.
00s are now only eligible for future olyroos.

Amazing win for the boys especially considering losing 3-0 to the same team last week. Other reasons its an amazing win - they won the whole tournament, the conditions did not suit and they played less than 48 hours ago.....you would be slow too.....
Lets not poke holes and take it for what it is - a great team effort, some individual class throughout and some silverware.
The system is working (for today anyway)..

Combine both 01 and 02 together and you get a squad that looks something like...
Kalderbank-Park, James, Pavlesic Trewin, Mills, Warland, Courtney-Perkins, Aquilina, Fay, Chick, Powell Monge, Constable, Kirdar, Teague, Duzel, Ruiz-Diaz Italiano, Tilio, Carluccio, Sepping, Brook, Botic

A tournament win is a tournament win, not the easiest conditions and with plenty of games back to back. Well done to the young lads!

+xI don’t really take much from this tournament. None of the big Asian nations were in it We need to realise these countries Australia is facing aren’t easy beats anymore, the likes of Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia etc are investing millions of dollars and are improving all the time. Even the big Asian nations would find them challenging these days so we are not alone on that regard.

Congratulations on a good win. Considering we have been struggling lately against the same teams, its a step forward. But still a long way to go. When we are regularly beating bigger nations we can say we are getting development right. At the moment its still problematic.

Having players that can adapt and play at a decent level in back to back to back to back games in SE Asian conditions is impressive. Defensively still looked suspect but dominated the game.
We have no idea how to break down a packed defence and that the problem we face in Asia at all levels. All teams sit back against us, let us fluff around on the ball and try to hit us on the counter using their superior speed and technique. I also hope our boys are playing on pitches like this regularly at home, it's an important part f their development in the international arena.

+xI don’t really take much from this tournament. None of the big Asian nations were in it Well it's not just about the "big" nations anymore, the likes of Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam etc are pumping huge money into their youth development. This tournament would've been hugely valuable for this crop of u18's, being exposed to these tough conditions, dodgy pitches etc. A great lead up to the qualifiers later in the year.

Can’t remember so many youth camps at once. U17 back in Canberra after a camp last month and are flying out to Leicester soon for international friendlies. U15s in camp in August too after their AFF tournament earlier this month. U19 got another camp in September for their November AFC qualifiers.
We need our lads training together more often so long may this continue!

Next stop to reduce the cost of football to promising youth and stop their fees paying for NPL semi-pros.
