Football Australia has advised the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) that it will be withdrawing from the AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2022™ Qualifiers scheduled to be held in Basra, Iraq from 10 – 18 September.

The final decision was made after careful consideration based upon the current travel advice of the Australian Government. To ensure Australia’s best emerging footballers continue to be exposed to high level international competition, Football Australia is currently exploring the opportunity of the Young Socceroos competing in a four nations tournament in Spain during the September FIFA window.

That's a massive call.

That means no u-20 Asian cup and no chance of sending the team to the u-20 world cup.

" Singapore 7's"
A good result but a small field,6 player & goalkeeper.
Would rather see them play on full size fields and have full squad size tournaments for comparisons.

“The AFC has since confirmed that this Qualifying Group will no longer be hosted by Iraq and during the September FIFA window, with further updates pending.” Promising detail from the FA press release. Hopefully the Young Socceroos can still qualify for the 2023 U20 World Cup.

Ha but that's a good thing for us.

I wish we'd offered or even Kuwait.

That would be absolutely HUGE if we could still participate. This is the most exciting age group I’ve seen in a long time.

Looking at the 16-0 and 13-0 score lines happening frequently in the other groups of 5 teams, it’s going to be impossible for any group of 4 (including ours) to have a team that qualifies from 2nd place as our group doesn’t contain one of the minnows that anyone can rack up huge scores against.

Seems like a faulty system tbh.

Timing works out perfectly for us though. We have the prep tournament in Europe, and then 2.5 weeks for a camp in Kuwait ahead of the first qualifier.

We have to win this group.

Considering the new dates are now after the international window, I wonder if Garang Kuol will be able to link up with the squad in Kuwait.

That’s a really good point. I’d imagine they’d be ok to stay on and play though as the overseas clubs are all reserve teams e.g. Reims B, and typically the point of those teams is development rather than results, so should actually see this as a great development opportunity.

So the young Socceroos lost 1-0 last night.

Highlights are here. https://youtu.be/H0AyJW0OogM

Looking at it it seems like we were pretty dominant apart from conceding the goal super early. Seems to be another classic moment of lacking the finishing to get the result.

So it seems to have been missed but the Young Socceroos are playing Chile this morning.

Currently half time and trailing 1-2 after Chile scored right on the edge of half time.

Australia’s Joeys take on the future stars of China PR, Cambodia, and Northern Mariana Islands as some of Asia’s brightest young football talents converge on Shepparton, with places in the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2023 finals up for grabs.

Free entry according to this.

Really hope the NM Islands can make it and not cancel. I really enjoy these minnows having a go and Guam has been in the qualifying rounds a few times.

Overall risk assessment would of been mandatory, although, I didn't read the words 'worldwide search,' and just fit that clutch statement in the article. A term usually reserved for a club searching for a new manager of a team.
