I forgot that it was 26 players so choosing where to use those last three players was really hard. I chose an extra winger, an extra striker and an extra CB. Because of uncertainty at RB they may choose to allocate an extra spot there and bring three RB's (Rawlins, Simmons, Italiano). 
I think with Botic and Toure out, having an individual tournament between Kuol, Jovanovic and Waddingham is important to create a hierarchy. I couldn't decide between Natta or Bonetig but I believe they're both consolations if Circati is available for the U23 Asian Cup. Having all three of our ideal midfield starters (Volpato, Robertson, Nieuwenhof) unavailable has really shown the lack of midfield depth where I had to start choosing attackers in the midfield spots. I think Velupillay and Rapha could definitely make this squad and wouldn't be surprised if either do over players like Segecic or Peupion. Obviously, I've omitted Bos and Circati as I believe they'll be selected for Socceroos duties instead.

Gauci as an overager. 

That's essentially my Olympic starters team (assuming Gauci is the only overage). Probably beat the Socceroos too.

That team would be a serious contender for the gold medal and would surprise a lot of people. Obviously history shows that other countries bring some nasty overage players as well.

If we get there an take overagers I'd have Gauci, Degenek and Iredale. Centre back is still dodgy with just Circati.

Mbappe has said he'll play for France and Real Madrid aren't happy. France will field a great team regardless.

If we take an overage centre back I'd grab Souttar. RB is the other tricky spot but no-one even at senior level jumps out. 

It's a talented team. I'd love to see it. The overagers for other nations would be hard though. 

So Tilio is out as well, so many injuries at the wrong time of the season...

Some ridiculous selection calls - where's Jelacic, Simmons, Trewin, Irankunda, Bonetig. They've picked 3 Defensive midfielders, but no Attacking Mids - they're all wingers that could fill a gap at #10. Jelacic needed to be included. Frign morons 

And Rawlins as well? They've gone with Bovalina?!! 

Very strange selection. I understand the idea because there are lots of fringe players vying for spots but what about Simmons, Rawlins, Jelacic, Bilokapic, Irankunda, Jovanovic, Trewin, Bonetig, Chipperfield, Peupion, Borges-Rodrigues? 

I know this won't be the final team next month but yikes and apparently it's being reported that Irankunda will only play for the Young Socceroos (u20's) for the time being. Ridiculous! 

Interesting squad, considering there are some injuries are players that can’t be released by euro clubs it’s good to see some new names.

We didn't bring one Olympic/U23 Asian Cup starter to this tournament.  Obviously some because of injuries but still...

Toure/Botic, Tilio, Irankunda, Robertson, Volpato, Nieuwenhof, Bos, Triantis, Circati, Simmons/Rawlins?, Bilokapic. 

Nothing wrong with Nestor playing with the u20s team which we know is quite talented. 

It shouldn't be exclusive, play in both he is so necessary for the U23 Asian Cup, him not playing in that because he has to play in the u20's Qualifiers in September makes no sense. 

Seems like Circati won't play next month unless Parma win the title prior. I don't think that is probable, still quite a few games to go and 2nd place isn't far behind.

Vidmar is saying the team won't change drastically for next month's U23 Asian Cup, seems like most European players will be omitted, Nieuwenhof, Triantis, Bilokapic, Bos, Circati, Peupion etc. If that's the case, I really can't see us qualifying for the Olympics, being severely understrength and having to beat two of Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Japan and Uzbekistan just to make the Olympics. Especially with the poor coaching as well

You can understand Circati & Bos, but there shouldn't be any reason for the rest not to be selected. 

This is such depressing news. Unlucky draw, now this. We are very unlikely to qualify, but if we did we could have been a chance for best ever Olympic results. In the circumstances its baffling why Irankunda is not included

Peupion got blocked by his club

I find overage players are often not the absolute best available and more 3 experienced heads. Souttar would be awesome. Degenek would bring top experience into the defence. I so hope we qualify. 

Pretty disappointed with this squad. A practice tournament and we can just hope some of the better options get picked for the tournament proper. 

Botic, Nieuwenhof, Tilio all rough timing with injuries. 

I guess missing are euroroos getting game time: chippers, volpato (never coming), bos, circati, triantis, mo (injured), robertson (injured) and hof (injured)
we are also missing injured local roos in tilio

more surprising is missing specialist 10s in jelacic or bernando - of course segecic holman and yazbek can play a makeshift 10 role

also thought rodriguez over villupilay but not too fussed

can live with either bovalina or simmons getting a spot and they both are similar level

aussiescout online preferred jovanovic to waddingham but personally I'm happy rewarding the game time  and formwad's has gotten (the great barrier chief)

would love circati and triantis though - if we get those in the back line I think we qualify since it is a brutal defence

Olympic men football is the biggest tournament behind the world cup.  All eyes will be watching in the final stage.  You see how happy the Matildas celebrated like crazy and even bigger if we qualify for the men team. 

It seems like we didn't get the priority right and fill up with team B and hoping to qualify.  If we dont send the best squad in , we  have no chance for Paris. Last time , we had a very good prep and a pretty good squad n that's why we qualified for Tokyo.
