To my genuine surprise thousands have signed up to house refugees when they come. Good one them, I commend them for their generosity. Out of curiosity, I do wonder how long they're expected to house these people for? OR, "it seemed like a good idea at the time" could be the quote in hindsight OR perhaps, rather than being bitter hate-filled, blame everybody else for their woes, narcissists they might possess a skerrick of humanity and want to help others less fortunate than themselves. I mean, just maybe. Edited by munrubenmuz: 21/9/2015 09:49:15 AM maybe....but you have to be realistic....doesn't always mean your bitter or hate filled.... having been there and done that i only comment from experience, sorry to disappoint. You only comment from experience? Please finky, tell me about all the refugees you've selflessly put up in your home before...

Because it is a decent size group of people coming with short notice, it will just be about finding places with infrastructure in place.
Whilst I agree with most that it is better to put them in towns where people are needed, it is also a bit of an exaggeration to think 7000 people added to a population of over 4 million creates much pressure at all on infrastructure.
The fact is, as the article states - we have been bringing people in for decades that have impoverished, non-English speaking backgrounds without issue. We are an immigrant society. I think people are getting a bit alarmist.

I often read your posts and wonder if that was you. Nah mate it was your lover....... For the record, my comments were about a woman who has opened her house to allow these refugees to live within her family unit, i have no problem with true refugees coming to Australia as long as they integrate and get on with being a productive part of our nation. I have had experience housing people within my family unit and it generally only works short term, and can cause internal rifts. So it is preferable for them to have their own place. I too grew up with refugees and immigrants and learnt a lot from them, working in market gardens, workshops and farms for pocket money. the other point i was making was the Leftie bitch i know is all for the refugees coming here (as i am) but when asked if she would have them in our community or next door to her she replied NO.....a NIMBY.... Not In My Back Yard the guy (your lover) in centrelink is a hypocrite if he is on one hand receiving payment for doing nothing(centrelink) then complaining that another human is doing the same...... anyway have a good day;) ;) ;)

Clear delineation along ideological lines towards immigration http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-11-11/vote-compass-full-data-explorer/5016244Filter by Question: - How many new immigrants should Australia admit? - Asylum seekers who arrive by boat should not be allowed to settle in Australia. - Boat carrying asylum seekers should be turner back.then filter by Demographic Group IdeologyIts easiest to see the disparity when comparing left to right, but even if you tally up left/centre-left v right/centre right, its clear that right wingers are against immigration. Happy to jump on Google Scholar & link research papers on right wing ideology & immigration

Hypothetically, what if it had the inverse effect and drove more people away including the new arrivals due to increasingly limited employment or became a huge financial burden for the taxpayer having to offer generous incentives to attract skilled workers from the big smoke like doctors, nurses, social workers etc to service their needs.

Why should we take any refugees? Migration should be limited only to those who provide the most benefit to Australia. The program allowing Chinese to get PR for investments over 5 million is a much better outcome, it should be expanded at the cost of refugees.

First we didn't want the Europeans fleeing the world wars, then we didn't want the Wogs in the 70's and 80's, we didn't want the Islanders in the 90's or the Chinese in the 00's. All these groups of people are now a vital part of our country and have changed Australia for the better in almost all cases. People are very short sighted when they think about immigration and focus solely on the negatives when there are so many more positives that come with it.

"offer us nothing but criminal dregs"
Generalisation much? Have you noticed the amount of English speakers among the Syrians trekking through Europe? Doctors, engineers, educated etc.
I would love to seem any substantiation of your "criminal dregs" accusation.
