Channel 9 news just now.

A 2 minute piece on a "soccer brawl" in sydney where one boy was punched by an opposition player AFTER a game in sydney. The victim got a broken jaw. Only the accused and the victim were involved but was reported as a brawl.

15 second report straight after where during an aussie rules game in west oz an UMPIRE was assaulted DURING the game... but this only allegedly happened.

How does one turn into a brawl with only 2 involved after a game and one is just an alleged incident between 2 people during a game. Either they are both brawls or not... an either both are because of the inherent violence in both games or not. Even if one incident happened decidedly after the sport had stopped being played.

Because media bias lol.

EDIT: If Channel 9 get HAL rights in the future expect this kinda of stuff to disappear from the nightly news segments lol.

As the A-League grows expect more of it. The mass media plays up to stereotypes for easy ratings.

If this was football they would have added after that AFL incident "this comes after an ugly incident over the weekend where a soccer fan viciously assaulted a woman in front of hundreds of people" (show mobile footage a few times).

And then advertise a poll:
Do you think soccer fans are the most violent?
#Yes
#No

I would modify your statement to say:

Expect more from the media outlets NOT broadcasting the sport as the A-League grows.

Expect less of this coverage from media outlets with a financial stake in the game.
