Skipper Aaron Finch led a resurgent Melbourne Renegades to a five-wicket BBL win, with his batsman needing just 14 overs to chase down a total set by Hobart Hurricanes. Opener Finch crafted a classy 60 at Bellerive Oval on Monday as the Renegades reached 5-141 in reply to the hosts' 5-140. The knock included 11 boundaries, but it was fellow opener Chris Gayle who sparked excitement on and off the field. The former West Indies' Test captain raced to 41 from 15 deliveries with four boundaries and three sixes, thrilling the crowd of 16,412. But not so well received was his sideline interview with Ten Network presenter Mel McLaughlin. "Hopefully we can win this game and you and I can have a drink after," Gayle told the reporter who was left lost for words. Gayle laughs after propositioning McLaughlin. Image: Channel 10 It prompted an on-air apology from the network a short time later, and reassurance there won't be such comments made in the future. The Hurricanes' woes started when they lost the toss and were sent in to bat first. It didn't improve markedly after that. Skipper Tim Paine (2) was the first to fall, bowled by Xavier Doherty (2-19). Replacement batsman Kumar Sangakkara (3) faced only eight balls and then the usually reliable George Bailey (0) failed to contribute, caught when trying to loft a shot over mid-off. It was big-hitting Dan Christian (58) who rescued his side from what would likely have been a disastrous total. The result keeps Renegades' finals hopes alive, coming after three successive losses which had them struggling towards the bottom of the ladder. https://au.sports.yahoo.com/cricket/a/30486019/bbl-chris-gayle-comments-mel-mclaughlin-interview/#pause come back to our game mel we miss ya.

Pretty sure I heard the commentators make some causally racist remarks about Chris Gayle at one point too. Can't remember what exactly they were, but they included calling him Bob Marley and "Hot Chocolate" for absolutely no reason. They had the cover their arses up and divert everyone's attention by advertising the Big Bash League soundtrack CD or some shit.
For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby

#ReturnToFootballMel[-o< Yep, seen all the cricket flogs on Facebook defending him. Was so cringeworthy, Mel handled her self well and hopefully she comes back to the place where she is truly loved and respected.

This is how I saw it. It's not like he hassled her it was just a bit of cheek that caught her off guard.

It just shows a total lack of class from Gayle more than anything... Mel was just trying to do her job and he put her in an obviously uncomfortable position on national television. Poor form.

Tard News wrote:BETHFC wrote:So now flirting is unacceptable? What is this world coming to lighten up...... If he pulled that move in a pub, I would have high fived him, to pull that move on national TV? Probably not. Mel should come back to football. Channel 10 clearly poached Mel from Fox Sports for a strategic reason. She was to be the sports anchor on their failed attempt at a morning show to rival sunrise and today. Was a good opportunity for her if ch10 was able to get an audience

Cheeky? Maybe. A light hearted joke? Probably. Appropriate? Nah. Feel sorry for Mel having to put up with that on National Television.

Not appropriate to be doing this on national TV and he will probably be fined for it but as per usual being blown out of proportion.
Now the lead story on most news sites. Apparently this is the most important thing to talk about today. Thankfully the SJW's of the world are here to rescue a damsel in distress. What would we do without them?

Yes it was stupid thing to do. Now he is going to apologise. Move on. People saying this will result in Mel coming back to Fox are the sort of planks who can't look at any situation without trying to guess what weird set of circumstances can be said to have contributed to it and what unlikely outcome may result.

Normally i'm pretty sympathetic to this sort of stuff but the media deserve a collective uppercut for this. Watch his actual interview where he is apologising for showing any disrespect and hear some of the retarded interjections by hack journos trying to blow this up with comments like "yeah well she's upset m8". Can't wait for Clementine Ford to make this even more of a non-story.

The media reaction has been overblown, but it's about time Gayle was pulled up on this, he does it all the time. I mean I don't really get it, does he get enjoyment out of embarrassing women on tv or something?

Gayle and Bravo should be more worried about pulling their weight on the field. Both are useless.

Chris complimented Mel on her looks and, tongue in cheek, asked her to have a drink with him.
There was nothing lewd about his comments, and it has been entirely blown out of proportion. Thats completely different and you know it. Male privilege is a physical advantage over women so men making these comments are an aggressive act.
