Take the Chinese money for a year, enough to set yourself up in any Aust capital city , then come back and play for any knucklehead (no offence Arnie) you like

With rules like that, Rumour Mill will be as big as AF if you're not careful Ronaldhino is coming soon

I wonder how much of a lock Holosko is for next season. Maybe he had a 1+1 contract, and it may come to who's favour the option is in. A foreign marquee striker is what we need for next season. I'd take Holosko under the cap if he wanted to stay, he's solid but not really fast enough for the wing.
Oar would be a great signing for any HAL club. His delivery would be excellent and he can also play in the middle so he's a bit versatile as well.
You'd think if he was going to accept an offer in China he would have already done so. The fact he's taken so much time to make up his mind he actually might be coming to Australia, as unlikely as it seemed.
It would leave us with 3 creative left footed midfielders though, which isn't ideal, but Ninkovic and Brosque aren't suited to playing out wide.
He wouldn't help us with our problem of a lack of pace either. Naumoff, Hoole, Abbas and Stamboziev can all be released (or signed and loaned out - if transfers and loans are introduced for next season)

Agreed an good point. But in this case I think he is priced right after a few good seasons in Europe, 500k a season is fair and a salary like that shouldn't be used as a marquee spot. Big names or players like Castro, Berisha and fornaroli. I'd love to see a third marquee spot introduced. We need to take the next step in the league, with the quality of players. Some great players have come this season. Especially some of the foreigners.

Personally I think $500k per season sounds a lot for Oar. I think you could get a better player for that many bananas

It's still useful to conserve a visa spot - foreign non-marquees tend to be more influential than locals.

Edited by eastern glory: 25/2/2016 10:41:38 PM Even if he joins us for the rest of this campaign Oar's signing is probably more with one eye on next season. At the moment on the left we have Carney (who I imagine will head overseas in the off-season even though he's contracted for another year), Naumoff (who needs to be moved on at the end of the season) and Hoole (who's more of a RW and shouldn't be a starter regardless). Abbas and Brosque can play there but are now being used as a LB and CAM/CF respectively. Looking at next season a forward line with Oar- Foreign CF - Holosko would do really well. My only concern, as I say, is that we lose our chance to spend big on a foreign striker as a marquee. Edited by JP: 25/2/2016 10:53:45 PM Fair enough if Carney is leaving. Naumoff is bloody awful, so get rid of him (obviously he'll sign for Perth lol). I'd just be surprised if Arnie went for another attacker this late in the season...

Quote:Sydney FC emerge as front-runner to snare Socceroo Oar
The future of Socceroos winger Tommy Oar is set to be resolved imminently with Sydney FC spearheading a host of clubs in the A-League and beyond vying for the signature of the gifted free agent. By Dave Lewis 25 FEB 2016 - 10:02 PM UPDATED 13 MINS AGO 0 Oar, who was granted a release from his two-year Ipswich Town contract last month after finding it difficult to settle in the UK, has been fielding a number of offers and is believed to close to making a final decision.
While the 24 year-old has been tempted by strong interest from Russia, the Netherlands – where he spent five years with FC Utrecht – the MLS and China, it’s believed the Sky Blues could be a favoured option for the Queenslander, who cited homesickness after six years aboard as a motivating factor for his exit just five months into his Portman Road contract.
Tommy Oar leaves Ipswich after requesting contract termination Australia winger Tommy Oar has left English Championship side Ipswich Town after requesting a contract termination, having failed to settle in England. It’s understood that Sydney are prepared to pay Oar, who is looking to return to club football in time to be in contention for next month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Tajikistan and Jordan on home soil, around $500,000 per season.
The contract would include the rest of this season, and the following two years, with Oar likely to plump for the Sky Blues over the other A-League clubs chasing him – Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City and his former team Brisbane Roar.
As Oar terminated his Tractor Boys deal before the closure of the Australian transfer window on 2 February he would be able to sign for the Sky Blues, or any A-League club, as a free agent, pending final approve by Football Federation Australia. Sources claim that Oar could be tempted by an offer which could see him replace current skipper Alex Brosque as the club’s Australian marquee next season, while still joining them for the remainder of an A-League campaign in danger of sliding off the rails as Perth Glory ramp up the pressure for the final play-off place.
But a final call will not be made by Oar until the weekend as he sifts through the offers. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2016/02/25/sydney-fc-emerge-front-runner-snare-socceroo-oar
