there also lots of rules (tax laws) that fuck you over....double tax from two countries on same money...can't buy land or house as Australian in many overseas countries
if you never move outside of Australia
if you never do business out side of Australia
if you never invest out side of Australia
then there no reason to have offshore company or bank accounts....but if you do one of those 3 things, then you really need to get a good accounted, because you're very likely going get fuck by paying way to much tax

not related to panama directly
heard on radio about Australian companies and their tax rate
some paid roughly 30 % ( including Gina R ) and other paid less than 10%
a lot down to creative reporting ... revenue and profit ( this is not a crime )
what is ironic , is one of those companies based in Adelaide, reportedly paid less than 10% tax
and its head office is in the building of a " Big 4 " consulting firm

the big accounting firms assist their clients with these tax strategies
only have to go to the icij website , and search the list of australian companies with offshore havens.....
and great to see BHP and SA Power Networks implicated in this too
