Chunky Pea and Ham soup with thick bread rolls in winter is the best. But on the whole it never feels like a proper meal at dinner time. + upside down meat pie ≈ proper meal

Despite the fact that its "unpopular" and "gay" to like music by U2 and David Bowie, if you compare it to the current popular music that gets released, it validates how content we are with mediocrity, especially after the paradigm setting work by the old artists

Quality music is out there and is still being written, recorded and released, you just have to search a bit harder to find it. Go back to the years that U2, Bowie, Beatles, Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd (to name a few) were at their respective peaks in quality and popularity and you'll find loads of absolute fucking garbage being shat out on the airwaves and in record stores along side the classics.

Unpopular opinion, speaking of music over the years..
Nirvana were pretty garbage, hey. Just existed in the exact right time, when not a whole lot else competed with it IMO.

They had some good songs and albums but it was certainly the case of the right time. It wasn't however to do with competition. As an adolescent at the time they had an image, vibe and sound that resonated with that demographic in particular.

Nirvana were pretty garbage, hey. Just existed in the exact right time, when not a whole lot else competed with it IMO. Not a whole lot of competition? In the same year they released their biggest album, 1991, there were also seminal, career-defining albums from Metallica (Metallica), Guns n Roses (Use Your Illusion 1&2), Pearl Jam (Ten), U2 (Achtung Baby), RHCP (Blood sugar sex magic), REM (Out of time). That's basically some of the biggest albums from some of the biggest bands of the late 80s and 90s at exactly the same time. There was also mid-level albums from Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden and maybe a debut from Alice in Chains or a death rattle from INXS too. That's not even considering whatever came up that year in non-rock too, like Michael Jackson's Dangerous which is probably his second biggest selling album ever, or whatever Madonna or NWA or the Beastie Boys released that year. 1991 was one of the biggest years in the music ever, but yeah, believe whatever you want hey.

Nirvana were completely an utterly different from anything that was getting airplay at the time which helped.
Wasn't a big fan of Nirvana overall, I just remember hearing that song and watching it on rage at 1.00am and thinking wow.

I think what gets lost in the mists of time is how different Nirvana was from any other band out there (at least within popular music).
They were to hair metal what punk was to classic rock in the 1970s - rock music completely stripped down to its core basic elements.
We live in an era now where music genres are so fragmented, and all genres are equally accessible. It is easy to forget how much less variety of easily accessible commercial music there was out there back in the 1990s.
Nirvana was important not specifically for all the music in and of itself, but for how they just totally re-defined the rock music scene (along with other bands of course). So they are important for what they represent, rather than just the music they made.

They say there were 10k people watching it but I reckon I've heard more like 20k people "who were definitely there, hey"

I also have bias for Silverchair not only because I'm a newy boy but because I know one of the guys personally.

Are they still on regular circulation though on your listening device of choice? I certainly don't hate their music (and was obsessed with them in the early 90s) and if I hear them playing somewhere I'll still dig it but I find that I have to be in a certain mood to actively seek their music these days.
