99 Problems
the international experts thought Australia would do better than they have done. Gracenote, which tends to be the best at predicting Olympic results, had Australia winning more gold medals.

I just looked at Gracenotes predictions. It had Larkin down for 2 gold medals, even though his and Murphy's best times this year were near identical going in. I'll admit Campbell was expected to win the 100, but that was just a freak error on the day. She was a chance in the 50 as well but that event requires luck. Seebohm would've expected a gold and so would McEvoy but we won that anyway. It's a sport I follow closely and this was far from our greatest team we've sent to an Olympics. The simple reality is we're not good enough.
I do the same with sports I don't follow regularly at Olympic time as plenty have done with the swim team. I look at our rowing results and think we must've underperformed (apparently we haven't and we're just shit at rowing but I have no idea)

TBH I can be content with this medal tally for the end of the games
its more than powerhouse nations spain, portugal, mexico, argentina and brazil combined

We have definitely gone backwards in sport over the last decade its not just the game but all round with football the only place I've seen (slow) improvement albeit after dropping from the heights of the golden gen

Therefore, we need an inquiry or Royal Commission into Sport! lol

It's a real shame because the people need sport success so much. What else do they have if this is taken from them?

+xDaria Klishina, the only Russian Track & Field athlete not banned because she was based in the US and was regularly tested while training and competeing there with no problems (although was forced to compete under the Olympic flag and not wear her country's colours) has been banned at the last minute, just because she also tested with the Russian system sometimes. Say what you want about the rest of the Russian team, but this is fucked. Somewhat relevantly, here's what she looks like: I'll award her a Gold Medal!

If they look like her, I would be in if I wasn't married! lol She would be Orthodox too which means she's practically Greek! Good genes! lol

+xWatching kenya vs ethiopia in the long distance is great Except they're all juiced up to the max. Have been reading about Ethiopia, Kenya and other African countries and their non-existent drug testing regimes since that girl smashed the WR. Friggin Kenya coach was sent home for trying to piss in a bottle for one of his athletes. Ethiopian girl broke the world record that stood, by a drug cheat, for 22 years by 14 seconds and didn't even look puffed doing it. As HG and Roy would say it's a 'joke and a farce'.

+x400m semi 1.5 seconds below pb very unlikely to get a medal but gee one possibility is our coaches prepared for jetlag poorly compared to other nations I don't think it is jetlag but poor time related planing. Our athletes don't seem to be coping with racing at times around midnight as well as other nations. I don't like the need to hold the events at times for the convenience of the US viewing audiences. May as well just hold the every Olympics in USA if events are timed for their convenience rather than the athletes.

Somehow, I have no doubt that all this could be true. Which is absolutely deplorable. The authorities should apply blanket out of competition random testing.

Bolt just said that he couldn't do the time he wanted in the final because of the way the 100m was scheduled.

+xAll I'm saying is make some enquiries about atheletes mental preparation and how the coaches walked through it with them and compare it to more succesful atheletes to hopefully prevent the atheletes at the next olympics having to feel like this again Royal Commission is clearly called for! Where's Shorten when you need him?

Live up to our fiercely competitive reputation as a sporting nation? Ie afl, cricket we're number 1 at that

In reality Russia shouldn't be at the games, Ethipoia, Kenya, probably China and a host of other countries where WADA, the IAAF & FINA have been stymied consistently (and are weak as water) but the Olympics is a huge cash juggernaut that puts athletics and swimming in the spotlight only once every 4 years so they're loathe to do anything concrete.
Add almost all of the cycling, most of the wresting and particularly the weightlifting as drugged up roid freaks and it really is a joke.
Still the events are good to watch just asterix's everywhere you care to look.
