+x"5,865" v MV in Wellington, source Stuff After 15 rounds we average 13,247 . Same time last year was 12,210. And compared to the 13/14 season (highest average for the 10 team format) - 13,701 after 15 rounds. Bullshiy that was anything over 5k.

+x+xSydney FC vs Ade 11, 255 Garbage Why? Top form, Friday night, what's keeping them away? Piss right off. Torrential rain all day long, BOM preducted severe thunderstorms for the evening. It only cleared up at kick off time.

I didn't see any rain during the telecast, but if it was as bad as you say I'll take your word for it.

Been muggy and windy since.

Nice little spat over the SFC attendance last night, rain may be an excuse for last nights poor attendance but SFCs other attendances have hardly been notable with an average of 14,282 excluding the derby. Again it just shows that playing good football and winning a lot isn't enough to drive crowds through the gates - more is needed and if there's one lesson from the last few years stagnation, a period when the quality of football and excitement has been high but attendances haven't grown, it's that the league and individual clubs need to market themselves better:
Yoshi - fail; crowds haven't increased Cahill - fail; crowds haven't increased Summer of football - fail; crowds haven't increased Players holding ice-pops - epic fail; which school kid thought that up, Yoshis sister??
It makes you wonder what the marketing strategy is at the the ffa and how they measure success of their campaigns, it's certainly not through increased attendances.

It just kind of feels like SFC had good numbers. The problem lies in that the general public can't see they are a niche team. 💪🏾
The echoes of the bling failure still plague them. They are a steady mid range team.

It only cleared up at kick off time. Actually, the city only received 7 mm's between 11.30 and 2 pm, and another .6 of a mm between 7-7.30 pm. Periods in between those hours were mostly dry, so there WASN'T torrential rain all day. The Severe Thunderstorm warning for the metro area was cancelled around 3 pm. Pathetic excuse considering it was based on lies.

How was the wind though, if you had to base it on a level, was it as bad as this?

Hail, rain or shine a true fan would turn up to support their team. I don't think Sydney FC have many true supporters, they just turn up for games against their hated enemy and if they have a big name player making a debut.

We only have 11k members, that's less than our avg attendance (minus the set by games) Some clubs like WSW have 18k members. How often do they show up.

Heroically died in the sydney cyclone trying to defend FC's integrity. Sadly, he died in vein.

Agree, it is more to do with marketing than any other excuse. If you don't follow the league closely you wouldn't have known the game was on, let alone have a reason to part with $40 to get in. Its a regular occurrence on the train for people to ask why there are so many people on the train with Sydney FC shirts on the way to a game, before it clicks and they ask who the away team is. The derbies are the only game that people seem to have any knowledge about.

I believe the FFA will bring in an emergency team, like South Sydney, in 3 years time once the Nix's progress check-up (crowds, members, ratings etc.) fall short of requirements. However, there will also be the two expansion teams on top of that, South Melbourne & Wollongong for example.
Meanwhile, I believe Sydney's problem isn't that people don't like "soccer", but that they have such a large market all for themselves (2 million- or so) they can't settle on whether to aggressively target inner Sydney or the whole of Sydney (excl. West Syd). Perhaps it's time to decide and settle on one marketing plan.

While the Sydney crowd was embarrassing given our results and style of play this season, what were you all expecting?
Friday night games have never resulted in big crowds for us. Have you ever tried driving in Sydney during peak hour on a Friday evening?
Heavy rain on various occasions throughout the day with an initial forecast for storms in the night. Have you ever sat in the SFS in the rain? Most of the seats aren't covered by the roof. Families see that forecast and make an early call to stay in and watch in on TV.
Around 30,000 Sydney fans attended last Saturday. Another home game 6 days later is always going to tank, as illustrated by Davo in a number of games in various cities throughout the season. There is usually a hang over in crowd numbers after each derby in particular.
Overall, it is a shame that more people have not been in attendance to experience what we have achieved so far this season. But, in perspective, excluding derbies: Sydney FC average crowd = 14,858 Wanderers average crowd = 13,217 Excluding Victory whose average has only been in competition with itself since about Season 2, the only team that should be talking shit about Sydney's crowds is Brisbane. Excellent average of 15,705. You get 2,500 more at every game than the mighty WSW whose "support" the media always seems to crow about.
