Bought tickets for the BR v WSW game tomorrow. PAX at 12,331. bit underwhelming, but we did play them 5 weeks ago, or was it only 4? Hopefully build over the next 24 hours.

Also got tickets to Tuesday's ACL qualifier, only at 1,726. Going to look and feel rather surreal at Suncorp with a small group down one end! I wouldn't call it a crowd!

After watching the Sydney FC Vs Melbourne Victory match last night, I can see why Sydney crowds aren't as good as expected for the top team in the league. Throughout the game they slow down play at every opportunity and only managed 3 shots on goal. Sure they won, but it wasn't the kind of football that generates excitement and will entice people the game.

Too much hype and wishful thinking.

Crowds are reasonable, but we see a lot of wishful thinking and many heads buried in the sand. I would regard myself a Soccer Tragic, and yet I am getting bored with the A League. It's stale, too controlled and only 10 teams.

The A league has got itself to as far as it can go. There isn't much upside, unless there are radical changes like more teams, and promotion/relegation.

Also, playing at ovals is so awful.

Until then, it's meh....

Still not sure where all the doom and gloom is coming from, going to average another 13,000 or thereabouts this year. Expansion and a major shakeup is coming. We're tracking fine.

In saying that. Still a good crowd just way under what the fox team and some here were predicting. Seriously all their games bar maybe the derby should be played at AAMI. Not worth it for the extra 2-3k extra.

Anyone know why they didnt move the seats in at least.

Also it could have been 35k+ if it had been played at 5pm rather than the ridiculius school night time of 8pm. Hope the ratings made it worth it. And in fact why were fox pushing for later start? All it did was create an overlap with the tennis which is just stupid.

Playing 5 games at Etihad each season is a key reason why we're sustainable and not bleeding cash like the majority of other A-league clubs.

"The Victory have one of the most generous stadium deals at Etihad, signed in the second season of the A-League in 2006. The club receives a fee based on attendance, where it receives a percentage of gate revenue starting at zero and going up. Other clubs usually only start receiving income once the crowd reaches a certain figure, such as 15,000 people."

Read more: http://www.afr.com/lifestyle/victory-in-strong-spot-at-etihad-stadium-20130407-je7sn#ixzz4Ww6yevnP

That's why it's worth it for the club.

We've been averaging this for a few years.

it's not doom and gloom in that crowds are quite reasonable but there is no growth, and the setup is looking fairly stale without a radical shake-up.

If that shake-up is coming, then I welcome it but we have been getting that talk for years now and I will believe it when I see it. The FFA is not into taking the slightest risk but in order to grow it has to. Averaging 13K year after year isn't good enough. If you look at the numbers, there has been a slight decline even. Not much but it is there, and I take that as a small warning sign.

PAX of 12,331 with around 30 hours before kickoff indicates a crowd of around 14-16k. Pretty good once again.

Let's hope but I wont be taking it to the bank as you would say. You just never know with the FFA. In the meantime ill be sticking with it because I still enjoy watching most of the games, but expansion has to be a top priority now.

Yeah we need two new teams locked it for 18/19 within the next 10 months. And of course the new TV deal exposing the league to more people than ever before.

Pax when i bought Friday night was  13,505. So it's building nicely. People may have been waiting to see whether the Brisbane Heat made the BBL grand final before booking. Also the wsw away bay is 4/5's full. Should be a good atmosphere in the ground.

@ Bohemia

Correct on the Suncorp pax. It seems more like a random number generator than a prediction of actual attendance. Not sure why other stadiums seem accurate and Suncorp isn't?

But Roar always say they sell double the tickets on game day that they did the day before so looking at the two PAX numbers bellow just over 1200 tickets were sold yesterday so 2,500 should get sold today which puts PAX at 16k .... and a crowd therefore in the 14,000's

As for tuesdays ACL game - tickets are reasonably priced but the Ticketek fee for mine would be $14 so I'm buying mine at the stadium, its such a rip off. I suspect many members are doing the same but even so 5-6k for this one would be a good effort with a highly anticipated match up v Sydney to follow three days later.

Didn't you get the 3 for the price of 2 tickets from Roar? We can't go Tuesday, but the $50 for GA for tonight and Friday isn't bad.

With all the off field problems with the Bakries and no derby fixture the Roar really are second behind Victory in crowd pullers in the league.
Makes you wonder with proper owners and investment what the club could achieve.

It is a scary thought, you have to wonder why there have not had any competent owners. It has always been a problem, maybe they need a backer from a big club like ours, Melbourne City.

Still say Brisbane, Newcastle, Central Coast, Wellington, Sydney FC and Melbourne City are not helping their cause playing in such large stadiums. Having so many empty seats in the back ground is not a great advertisement for the A League. Newcastle's game against City in Coffs Harbour was a perfect example with every camera shot having spectators in the back ground, whereas if that was played in Newcastle it would have been empty seats galore.

The coffs harbour stadium reminds me of an npl type setup. It looks second tier. Not sometbing i want as the primary setup for aleague.

The stadiums that we need to replicate are Hindmarsh, Perth NIB and AAMI park.

Not advocating our games should be played on grounds such as the one at Coff's, just saying we need grounds that hold around the 20,000 mark instead of playing in stadiums that hold twice this size. Like to see Melbourne City playing at the Lakeside Stadium and then their crowds wouldn't look so bad.
