Support for Cowbaoys in the NRL shows its overly simplistic to just look at city sizes, when considering new reams..Broncos vs Cowboys is a huge crowd and ratings puller.Yet what is the population of the Townsville region? 180k? Community engagement, team performances can be just as significant factors as city size.Look at SFC for example .They share a six million people city with one team and can barely get 10k fans. Shouldn't the most important factor for expansion be whether a new team generates more revenue for the collective than it takes ?The favt that some generate more than others is irrelevant if the net effect is an increase in balance sheet to the positive. Maybe it's time to split the revenue cake differently,so any team has the chance to enter the competiton.

Makes sense that it would be one of the highest ratings considering that it's the first time that sydney fc and victory have met in a gf since they were shown on normal TV, unless I'm mistaken?

But but what about the poor 442 posters that were adamant that the aleauge shouldn't have finals and that no one cares for it? Well it has once again answered that question. Aleague finals series works and works well. We can say "yeah but stuff the ratings" but at the end of the day we need ratings for our game to grow. A finals format just makes sense.

Wow that's great My prediction is Fox will only increase their bid by 25%, on the condition two teams are added, inclusive of predicted value of the game 6 years from now My second prediction is no major network will bid for the rights and we'll be left with ABC having burnt our bridges with SBS But you're probably right. Yesterday was a real turning point for the code. The league may have dished out the same ratings and attendances for the last 5 years running but there is no disputing finals are helping the game grow It really was the game fans will be spending the next 6 months talking about as they wait with anticipation for the next season to start

Nope this is the 2nd Melbourne Victory vs Sydney FC GF on SBS. The other one was I the 2014-15 Grand final, that got good ratings too.

Crowd wise there has been slowly growing in the last 4-6 years, same with the TV ratings

Very good ratings on Foxtel. One would wonder if it was live on 7,9 or 10 or ABC. Could of got 5-600,000 viewers easily.

I don't want finals. I want a balanced home and away league with top of the table champion and a separate cup competition not related to the league. I understand that the finals are popular and generate money and interest in the "non-football' people who follow other sports, but hey, so would many other things and I don't want them either. eg. Like abolishing draws and having penalty shootouts at the end of any drawn match. eg. corner counts to split drawn teams and declare a winner like they used to do in junior mini tournaments years ago. etc.

The dude is a corporate robot Hyundai A-League 2017 Grand Final a ratings success With an average of 367,000 viewers, and a peak of 553,000 this number was a 10% increase on the previous highest Hyundai A-League match, the Hyundai A-League 2014 Grand Final between the Brisbane Roar FC and the Western Sydney Wanderers FC. In addition, the Hyundai A-League 2017 Grand Final and post-game where the two most watched subscription TV programs of the day, nearly double the nearest rival. "On top of a sold-out match, the broadcast numbers for the Hyundai A-League 2017 Grand Final were truly outstanding," said Football Federation Australia (FFA) CEO David Gallop. REPORT: Epic battle sees Sydney FC crowned champions "This confirms that football is entitled to be ambitious and confident in its future. No other code could match the atmosphere last night." "Credit must go to Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory who provided such an enthralling and compelling match topped off by the drama of a penalty shoot-out. Sydney FC with the trophy "I'd like to thank football fans around the nation who tuned in and welcome the many people who were watching for the first time. Sydney FC star hints at staying with champions "I would also like to thank personally Patrick Delany and his team at Fox Sports for once again producing such a fantastic broadcast. Fox Sports really are the leaders in the production of live sport in Australia and around the world. "With the Hyundai A-League 2017 Grand Final broadcast to 115 Territories globally, this could very well be the most watched Hyundai A-League match in history. "As we continue our core strategic focus to convert football's massive grassroots participation into Hyundai A-League fans, we are confident we will to continue to grow television audiences over the life of our new broadcast deal with Fox Sports," concluded Gallop. On free-to-air (FTA), the delayed coverage on SBS VICELAND was the most watched FTA multichannel program across metro and regional markets. SBS Network also had its highest Sunday evening Metro Audience Share for 2017 YTD (10.1%). Sydney's shootout hero savours GF redemption This article was originally published at: http://www.a-league.com.au/article/hyundai-a-league-2017-grand-final-a-ratings-success/fwaeta1r3w3j1e8itou6rikhf.

The thing that I find funny is the GF rated 275k. The post game show (which included ET and penalties) rated 460k Somebody adds the two together and divides them by 2 and it gives the impression that 367k sat through 90 minutes of the grand final, even though 40% only watched 30 odd minutes, and wouldn't have been counted at all if MV weren't choke artists Then for the first time regional ratings are counted as part of the total so the SBS figure can be sock stuffed as well, even though every ratings discussion and spreadsheet I have seen is metro only
