Giants vs Dogs rated about 700k more  than the NRL game across Fox/FTA metro and regional.

Seriously dude, 700k is a whipping of the very highest order.

Incredibly, that game involved Sydney's 2nd team and one of the smaller Melbourne clubs.

In fact, each and every AFL finals game has outrated the NRL equivalent by hundreds of thousands across the finals series.

Whats this got to do with football ratings.

SBS Manchester United v Leicester #MUNLEI 203k (Syd 52k Mel 74k Bri 28k Ade 23k Per 27k)

I would have thought people would be indiscriminately watching the EPL because of its channel. But SBS seem to be getting big ratings for Man Utd games and poor ratings for games with other teams

Seems to me that there might be a bit of choice behind viewer behaviour

It was a good timeslot though and showing Man Utd obviously helps.

But lets be honest, there wouldnt be many EPL fans here following the likes of Hull City or Stoke.....

You seemed to be bragging about Swans ratings in Sydney.

I showed you that they are not that good.

Storm 188k in Melbourne
Swans 103k in Sydney

AFL ratings in Sydney are alright but nothing special.

Now you can move the Goal posts again if you want but your bragging about AFL ratings in Sydney on a football forum sorta makes you look silly.

Mr AFL As long as AFL buy ratings ,they can delude themselves all they want about the success of GWS and GCS.This year they stacked the GWS with outside players to get success, just like they used to do with Brisbane Lions.Look at the Lions now.Face the facts. The only way AFL can sustain itself outside its core states is to set up expat teams chocked with expats. They live or die on the expats they are handed.NRL and Rugby do that as well.So be it.I am happy to follow NRL,which I grew up with ,knowing Melbourne Storm are a really a second Brisbane team in disguise. So I imagine the same goes for AFL fans with GWS and co.But,I come to this forum to discuss Football and you making a passing reference to Football then launching into an expose on AFL is clear trolling. It's clear to me ,you are incapabale of making any serious comments about Football without suckling on the AFL nipple you are inexorably fused to.

I'm saying the Sydney ratings are good enough, for sure, especially when you throw in the Fox ratings which have absolutely killed the NRL ratings over the finals series.

It's been a non-contest.

Hasn't even been close - and the Sydney ratings are part of that mix.

I'm just looking at Wookie's figures now.

The 8 finals games to date have had a combined TV audience of 14 million, an 11% increase on last year.

The 8 finals games have had total Fox ratings of 3.6 million, that's huge - and Sydney is part of that mix.  Fox ratings are up 22% on last year.

This is why the AFL has a $2.5 billion deal.

As this thread is about Football ratings, for my two cents worth, the SBS ratngs to date for EPL indicate a huge variation. This is possibly due to the likeability of the game being shown. But still a 150k variation is huge.
One thing i would suggest is if people watch big epl games in numbers bit half of those drop out when one of those epl teams is not so big, then people arent watching because of the quality of play.
People are watching more because of the theater of the big guns facing off.
So any eurosnobs watching are extremely fickle or maybe lower in number than we believe. As a eurosnob surely you shold be watching any epl game that SBS shows. If not ,you can't complain you don't watch HAL because standard is too low.Because even when games are of a high standard in the epl,you arent watching.

Mr AFL lets see if you can comment on football matters without quoting AFL.

Mate, the Storm is Melbourne's only League team, and its Melbourne ratings were marginally higher than Sydney's 2nd AFL team in Sydney, and the Storm were playing prime time - big deal!

This finals series, the AFL has absolutely smashed the NRL, seriously, absolutely smashed them - game by game it's been a few hundred thousand difference.

The most recent game, the Giants outrated the Storm by some 700k - it's an absolute smashing.

I understand, and fortunately, the A-League season is yet to start, so we can have a civil discussion about related matters.

I know you'll have an interest in these numbers.

These are the total TV ratings for the two finals played on Saturday:

AFL - 2.387m
NRL - 1.652m

That includes Fox, FTA Metro and Regional, a gap of 735k, which is enormous.

This is the interesting thing, the NRL game was played in prime time, while the Giants game was on earlier in the evening.

It's also quite incredible that that AFL rating is for a game between the Giants and one of the smaller Melbourne clubs.

Lol. 11% increase. Let's skim over it's 400% decrease on swans finals audience in Sydney.

In advance, sorry, its more AFL shit again, but I just cannot let stupid go unresponded, its a character flaw.

2014 (INCLUDING 550k+ for GF), Sydney final ratings averages 262.  Total ratings 785
2015 Sydney finals average 120.  Didnt play GF, Total ratings 241 (2 games)
2016 Sydney Swans (minus GF still to be played) average 114.  Total (3 games) 374
2016 GWS average 159.5 Total (2 games)  319
2016 Total Sydney finals average 126.  Total 536

If we assume something like 550k for the Sydney final again (its usually more)
Swans Average 231, total 924
Total Average 217, Total 1086.

So 2015 to 2016 for Swans finals audience goes from 241 to 924.
Explain to me what sort of math you used to get a 400% drop out of that dipshit.

AFL fans launching into personal attacks. Relax, I'm not black, a Muslim, an Asian or a pregnant female etc so you can tone the aggressive attitude down.

I never mentioned any dates, but while your multis are googling, look through previous swans final audiences at peak times. For example when Daaaasvis come good - then contrast that with Friday's laughable fta audience in nsw.

And please, when you see the results - keep your cool.

Sorry, you hadn't made it clear you just picked a high point at some point in time, then a low point at some other time to get an arbitrary reduction.  I thought you meant some sort of meaningful trend.  Continue as you were, I am sure the AFL are terrified by the 400% plunge in their popularity in NSW.

No, I didn't just pick a high point and correlate to a low point - it was based on Friday's sydney ratings V previous ratings for finals matches. But if we want to just pluck a year let's do it - I have landed on 2005, the year of their prelim final in Vic so a good comparison, compare that with Friday's result - 1 million viewers less (nationally).

You're kidding yourself if you think the AFL are not concerned with drop off in Sydney audiences for such a big game, because their media agencies would be.

Or maybe the strength of the EPL is stronger than you give it credit for

Not saying your wrong about the A-league starting sooner (I have agreed with you on this before), but using the EPL to prove the point is like saying "The Bachelor" had great ratings as well. during its finally, which was during the finals.

I still don't think the EPL and A-league can be treated as Apples for Apples.

So if the EPL is rating a bit better than the A League, and the EPL is more popular than the A league, then why do people think our rating numbers are a portion of what they should be, and would lift if we were shown on another network?

maybe beacuse those same people think the EPL would get an even bigger lift if they were on a bigger network.

Not saying i agree with them or you but thats the argument.

The EPL was shown at 9pm, long after the AFL GF had finished so it's a bit of a pointless post.

The AFL apparently got over 3m which is massive.

Pretty sure the news said they got a lot more than 3m viewers.  Supposedly over 5m were watching in the final quarter.

I think there should be cross promotion between A league clubs and AFL clubs. Try and get fans to be members of both codes. Rather than detest opposing codes.

There's numbers here, you're trying to make a point, I don't have the slightest clue what that point is, and basically fuck off.
