I have heard from a reliable source that Gombau will be appointed manager of MC before the start of the new season and Tim Cahill will be one of the MC marquees at $6 million for the season ($3 million net, ie after tax, which is what players and their managers talk when they talk contract money). The Cahill contract is said to be signed and Gombau is nearly a done deal.

I know there is a rumour mill for these things, but players are going to MC now in the expectation they will be playing under Gombau.

I dont support MC but this would be awesome for the HAL

Gombau with some good cash behind him is a pretty daring prospect. If JVS can get them to 4th, imagine what Josep could do.

Timmy is the national teams best goal scorer.

Gombau had his team playing excellent football, he just wasn't around long enough to witness the success his system and style brought.

Put all that together wilh an already competitive team (better than MV) and all the PR and money available your last sentence is closer to the truth than you think.

Which source would you believe Ray Gatt rumour linking him to the olyroos job or a poster on aus 442 about this, I know which one who I believe could be right and that is the former...

Would be fantastic to see him in the national team setup.

Who is your reliable source and what's your relationship to them? Just saying "a reliable source" doesn't make it so. Most rumours in AF at least have a link to an article, they might be as bogus but at least there's something.

I tend to agree with you but my friend is usually on the money and I trotted out the Gatt line too. He said Gombau has more than one option and MC want him and expect to get him.

In the food chain of person of interest > club > agent > players > journalist. My source is bigger than a journalist.

My reasoning for the above >>> is person signs contract with club, agent organises deal, players and journos find out later.

I have two good sources

One source is closely linked to the senior players as well as one of the top agents. This news is from our coffee catch up this morning. With certain teams he is 100% (ie where the players are playing) and with others not. He puts this down to the person reneging on a signed letter of intent in some instances. I pushed him on this one because I would like to see Gombau with the junior NT's and working with Ange. I think that would be terrific for Australian football. He said MC are expecting to punt JVS and players that are joining MC now are expecting Gombau to be the man in charge by the kick off of the next season. He said the Cahill deal is done but not the Gombau one, yet. I cant be more definitive that's all he gave me.

My other source is internal. We sponsor a HAL club. I rarely get anything juicy from this but I get lots of free tickets to games so its all good.

Thats fair enough although Ray Gatt is an respected and one of the most experienced football jounos so i'm sure his source is still strong too, it would be interesting what Gombau is going to do.

And also to be fair the Gombau rumour to City has been on for a quite a while so its no surprise but as you said he hasn't decided anything as of yet.

On Gombau, he may have never won the league , and he's not infallible by any means, but that guy steering the ship now, really, who do you want more if you had to choose between the two? .. just to make it easier just think of the change he makes and the timing of those change, also it not so much who is coming on, it's who he takes off also
