It sounds like the shooter(s) used the protest as more of an excuse to pick off police than anything else. The shootings actually appear to have little to do with the actual protests being held, more so killers taking an advantage of police being "easy" targets.

Makes the whole situation so much worse though, because now police are even more on edge (their police tend to be very gung-ho and trigger happy at the best of times) and the public will be more on edge expecting cops to shoot first ask questions later. A whole catch 22 scenario developing!!

I'm taking bets on how quickly the race card gets played on this incident.
