Sandown coming up this weekend.
At least were back on a proper track.
Hopefully some teams sort themselves out and challenge T8.
Especially the 6 Fords :)

IMO its a desparate signing to deflect how crap the series is at this stage.
It might be harsh but a reality, likely in the altima until this is confirmed for starters but going to a hard year for her imo.

its sure is sad.
TBH I'm not as close as I used to be as well, I loved it back in the day but I go way back as well.
Closing the plants is a double whammy.

BTCC was even better when it first started, smash up derby on black top but some serious racing and today.
Racing cars near on the showroom floor you mention, well thats how Bathurst made its legend I'm sure you know.
Race on Sunday buy on Monday - as a kid watching the 6-7hr telecast all day and many Class's of production race cars.
Was bloody awesum and just how it should go back to imo.
Supercars morphed into a giant for all the wrong reasons - sponsers $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$'s and look where its ended up.

Sad to see the demise of the local series, but to be honest I haven't followed a season closely for a good 6-8 years. Compare this to something like BTCC which I still watch as often as possible, it just provides such sheer entertainment value. Over the years there's been some of the best touring drivers I've ever seen (Muller, Plato, Neal, etc.) blasting around in cars that look not too different to my mum's Astra, or the Honda down the road. I feel like that's where I stopped having such an interest in V8's - I just don't think touring cars can get away with being that far detached from their origins. I know most touring car race series aren't much better, but I still think they're more down to earth than V8 Supercars.

Sandown used to be a huge event back in the day. I expect it should pull a good crowd.
Gold Coast has become bubbles and fizz typically of the region.
Again should pull a crowd but the racing is who's survives the concrete barriers most.
PI I agree one of the best rounds but crowds are getting thinner - the racing is pretty pedestrian therefore supports need to be better so as people have another carrot to attend imo.
Bathurst is Bathurst - living off its Legend and been a pilgrimage for me incl but what's to become once Falcons and Commodores are finished.
This will be the huge future were yet to see.

Typical Holden, no loyalty as long as they can say their with the winning team. Kunts. Well this series is officially dead after SMP. it was boring tbh apart from now and then. The support races are rubbish. Bring on Bathurst and rip imo.

By the looks ofit they are really trying to push Gold Coast. Not shocked why? Insane setting. Philip Island another marquee. Other than that it's looking a bit dull.

Holden bombshell as Holden Racing Team dumped from V8 Supercars

THE future of Australia’s most famous motor racing team is in doubt after Holden ended a 26-year partnership with the Holden Racing Team in a bombshell announcement that will see seven times Bathurst winners stripped of their name.On a dark day for the team made famous by Peter Brock, Mark Skaife and Craig Lowndes, HRT lost in excess of $2 million a year in support when Holden announced it would not be backing the team for the first time since 1990.HRT were also stripped of their famous name with Red Bull Racing Australia to become The Red Bull Holden Racing Team after winning an exclusive three-year deal to become Holden’s only fully backed-factory team.

HRT is now fighting to secure its future and is already understood to be chasing Japanese giant Toyota in a determined bid to remain a Supercars powerhouse.Holden ended its 26-year relationship with HRT by way of phone on Monday night when a Holden official called owner Ryan Walkinshaw to deliver the crippling news.“After fielding Holden’s official factory team for 26 years we are naturally disappointed but respect Holden’s decision,’’ Walkinshaw said.“While our official motorsport partnership may have ended, our relationship with Holden remains strong and we continue to work closely on future road vehicles in line with our HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) business.’’

HRT vowed to continue in the sport yesterday with a statement declaring they “remained committed to fielding two Commodores in 2017 and beyond following today’s announcement by Holden to end its sponsorship by the end of 2016’’.The team has been left without a major sponsor for next in a blow that also could cost them star driver’s James Courtney and Garth Tander. Both the former Supercars champions are off-contract at the end of the year and free to follow Holden at the door should they be able to find a more attractive deal.Holden ended months of speculation about their future in Australian motorsport by cutting HRT and signing an exclusive three-year deal with Triple Eight Race Engineering.

Jamie Whincup and Shane Van Gisbergen will next year become the only two factory Holden drivers on the Supercar grid.Holden confirmed the company would be racing Commodores for at least the next three years with the new version of the Australian legend tipped to be a V6 version of the Opal Insignia.“Motorsport has played a significant role in Holden’s heritage and we’re proud to be carrying on that tradition with the new Red Bull Holden Racing Team, while reshaping our brand and presence in the market and in motorsport,’’ said Holden Managing Director Mark Bernhard.

“We’re taking our company forward. Fans around the country will see the new Red Bull Holden Racing Team on the grid from next year but I’m especially excited about our next-generation Commodore hitting the racetrack in 2018. Australia can rest assured that our next-gen Commodore will live up to the iconic nameplate, on and off the track.“Triple Eight is the most successful team of the modern era, they are simply the best at what they do.’’Triple Eight’s incredible success no doubt ended HRT.The team has won a staggering 101 races since linking with Holden in 2010 while HRT has won just 16.

Holden said they would continue offering HRT non-financial assistance.“I’d also like to thank and pay homage to Walkinshaw Racing with whom we have shared a proud history over many years,’’ Bernhard said.“We’ll also continue to help Walkinshaw wherever we can. We support every Holden team in pit lane through various avenues such as marketing support, technical support, sponsorship acquisition, even down to helping design certain race liveries. We’ll continue that with Walkinshaw and I wish them all the best. Our relationship with Walkinshaw remains strong and we are working closely on future road vehicle initiatives as part of our ongoing HSV relationship.”OTHER NEWS: SPEED CAMERAS RAISE MILLIONS BUT DEATH TOLL RISES

yes the Fox move has alienated many punters but they needed the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
I still have my interests but also its work related.
I love racing but losing the local 2 unique icons is going to be hard to swallow, it already is tbh.
Times change as we know just hope the future brings more competition and a good balanced series.
For now bring on Bathurst - I still love this race.

And Philip Island.

Moving to fox has killed it.

Maybe but I see why they moved it. Fox offered a lot of potential and it continues to do so. I don't oppose adding more cars, it's just there's something missing and I don't know what it is. I guess if you change the sport and attempt to make it international you go all or nothing.

Just got home from SMP.
Thankyou Erebus, superb hosts.
Betty and hubby were there as well as all the crew.
I had a ride in DR's but driven by Craig Baird - I've done this a few times before but if you haven't do yourself a favour !
Its wham bam thankyou man driving compared to being in your surburban run around lol....
Everything is hard fast and then bang hard on the brakes readying to attack the corner - adrenaline plus ! love it.
Then there was that cheap MB SLS - the older one that ran the 12hr and now used in GT series but they do have a later model as well.
Wooooohooooo, silk as on the track and to hear its heart rumble is sheer pleasure !
The comparison between the Supercar ride and the SLS was commented as - the merc is like the Granpa and the supercar is like a punch drunk, somehow you can relate to that if you've ever had the chance to experiencing both on the same day :)

Well, seems not many are into the local series, not much was mentioned in the past in Extra Time anyway.
I have been a follower since the ol days compared to some here so overall I have to say with the locals departing from building good ol Falcons/commodores its dead man walking as the series currently is - it was dying years ago I'm afraid.
Since Skaife's great COTF concept that was meant to reduce costs its just all too hard and still overly expensive.
Now, following Ford Volvo is done, Nissan going it will be once again the Commodore Cup lol, fecking boring !
