I think the Knights are ready for a second division now, but what happens in an open pro/rel system when they play a Serbian team like Bonnyrigg?

SU58 can't even play them in a public match.

A recent shot (to add to the dozens of others). All their games should be behind closed doors with fans like this.

If you hate the FFA and plastic league that much and like the Knights insular set up, why don't you just join the 200-300 supporters and be done with it?

There's nothing that this mono ethnic club is offering now that is different to when they were in the NSL. They are unable and unwilling to broaden their appeal, not that they want to anyway.

Lol so as per usual you have nothing to contribute other than second hand reports and inherent bias. I don't support Knights because I already have a club and have no need to support a second side.

The difference is that I appreciate their importance to Melbourne and Australian footballs landscape and don't outright reject their existence because of some ridiculous racist vendeta against ethnics

The majority of reasonable football fans appreciate the reality of our football community and want the different levels to work together. The only bitters are people like you who are willing to push nearly everyone out for a Anglo dominant culture.

The Knights culture and history without doubt has its place in Australian football. They played a significant role in the football landscape. However, because of certain aspects their place within the game is right where it is right now, not in the top division and out of the public eye.

I say no.

They seem unwilling to play ball and are potentially troublesome and rebellious. It's hard to imagine them working with the FFA in an amicable relationship atm.

If there was a scale MK would be at one end and Brisbane Roar and SM would be at the other.

Yeah unfortunately Knights seem the most 'militant' out of the former NSL clubs.

Show me one comment where I "reject their existence" in fact I said I'm happy for the little club to continue but not at A-League level where they, together with other mono ethnic clubs, could destroy the progress we've made to today in no time flat. Hence the issue raised in the Crawford Report.

It is your bias for traditional football kulcha at all cost that is clouding your chequered vision in this case (and often). The majority of football fans wants the league to grow, that all clubs have a broaden base so they can be all inclusive rather than self centred, selfish and insular towards others.

No where in your response have you indicated where Melbourne Croatia have improved on their baggage since the defunct NSL years. Says it all really.

Id have to agree with this. I want to be all romantic and say "but look at the quality they have produced over the years"... Then I see these pics and its forlorn really.

"Brisbane roar and SM"

Lol! Well played sir. Bloody migrant clubs the lot of em. That said, if I had to choose, the migrant club from sth melb is like 5 mins from my pad and offer souvas on matchday....with epic views of the lake and city skyline... No brainer really 😜

Whilst I see your point re fans I don't think this should be taken into consideration. We need more teams. They have a good stadium, a good youth set up and team. If this was really the issue that you're presenting then why wasn't their FFA Cup games bcd?

No issue. Let them play.

Seems pretty self explanatory to me. The FFA cup game is limited to a couple games at best and isn't even exclusively shown on Foxtel but on subscription tv. The other point is the FFA want the cup and this is simply a part of it. They can't kick them out because it would go against everything the cup stands for. Allowing them to be a permanent fixture in the top division is a whole different issue.

And another thing is their stadium is not great for top division. Limited seating area where majority of fans would be left standing.

Just on the non issue you have, if you can't see this being an issue then it speaks volumes about you. Any club pushing their own political agenda is a terrible inclusion into the aleague. And I don't want the Croatian community being painted with the same brush as these wannabe fascists pushing their bullshit political views. Unfortunately this has happened all too often already in the past.

The 3rd banner by Melbourne Knights, basically directed at killing Serb children........... Yeah cut the BS, the only ethnic club which somewhat has a case for promotion is South Melbourne.

http://www.index.hr/images2/nozozica-melbourne.jpg

I am a supporter of a ethnic club and know how these clubs run, they were mainly never about FOOTBALL they were used as political machines FACT. The 21st century arrived and the nationalism died down and the clubs didn't serve a purpose anymore and had to make the transition to being about football whilst keeping politics in the background. Like stated in the article, they only get a couple hundred, what happened ? Did the thousands who turned up in the past stop coming because of the standard of football ? gimme a break.

Over the years the Melbourne Knights played an important political role, with the club being a symbol of Croatian nationalism. Victoria's Croatian community was made up of people who had fled from the communist regime of Yugoslavia. So the Melbourne Knights, then under the name of Croatia, served as a political statement of the desire of the Croatian people for an independent Croatia. Using the club the community was able to promote and bring awareness to the Croatian plight and independence movement. This role continued into the 90s, after Croatian independence in 1991, with the outbreak of war in Croatia and Bosnia. Melbourne Knights served as a symbol of pride for the community in this dark period, galvanizing the community’s support for the club. Through the club the community was able to show its solidarity with the homeland. Since then with Croatia being independent and stable this political role no longer exists in the same manner.

Fuck, their own Wikipedia page basically says the exact same thing I said.

Political Machines 75%
Football 25%

If it was an open system I don't think they should be excluded. As the FFA has a pick and choose system they do not meet the criteria which doesnt exist :).

So because 20 or so individuals 'push their political agenda' once in a blue the club should be ruled out of contention? And that it worse than the actions of a larger group of Victory fans how?

Did they chant a foreign county's name, waive foreign flags, have foreign signs at their home ground, speak a foreign language in their ground announcements, etc, etc.

I can see TV channels and sponsors from all over Australia wanting this piece of the action lol
