+xI just don't see how it doesn't involve having a crack at goals whenever you have the balls and hoping for a goal over a behind. *ball Most aussie fools players max out at 60m kicks on goal. they can kick longer but need that clearance so the 6 guys standing there don't touch it. With there being no limitation on the size of the goal like in football it basically makes 2/3 of the playing area within scoring distance. They should just keep the name AFL for this Absolute Fucking Lunacy

After that you've got very high, extremely high, massively high, greatest of all fucking time high (which only gets used 15 times a day). Then after that they fully exploit their bogan advantage that they can just make up bogan noises and expressions on the spot, like "boy oh boy wowee."

Pathologically obsessed with gaining foreign acceptance and expanding overseas, starting a women's league, moving onto getting teams in FIFA video game tournaments, changing the rules every single season and now this.
Says something about the AFL's long term vision for themselves.

It is like a "how improve boring soccer" article - make goals bigger - less players - use a footy - unlimited interchanges/changes I dont see why they would have behind posts in this sport though. I think using 2 posts instead of 4 would be the way to go.

Agree, but then it would be too obvious that they are trying to recreate sokkah. Has any hybrid sport ever been successful? Sevens and Bog Bash are still essentially the same game. Maybe MMA fighting the closest? TO make AFL like Big Bash it would be more like taking players down to 15 a side, limit on subs, extra points outside/inside different zones and 15 minute quarters etc

In fact bandy is called "camanachd-deighe" in Scots Gaelic, which literally means "ice shinty".)

+xInside Sport must be so proud of their mods and the quality of discussion on their boards. Inside sport wouldn't have boards if this community wasn't what it is. Feel free to fuck off.

They just have to make the ball slightly heavier or softer or change the shape to ensure that it can't be kicked 60m +. They redesigned the javelin years ago because they were running out of room inside athletic stadiums because they were throwing them so far.

Why the f does it matter if AFL still use leather balls? Are you suggesting they will put the balls in the front yard and have mum turn the hose on before she takes them to the game?

They should just introduce a round ball and make it a mini-version of Gaelic football already; this would take out all that useless fumbling. It's laughable seeing grown packs of supposedly co-ordinated athletes swarming around a ball in an attempt to bring it under control gracefully; the closest thing real football has to this is in an under 8s game or the odd occasion where ground security are forced to chase a dog or cat off the pitch so the game can resume. All that fumbling takes up precious space also? Going to be hard to contain such shenanigans within the relatively narrow confines of a football pitch.

Whatever ridiculous concept the AFL comes up with and the rest of the world laughs at, there will always be enough fools in Melbourne to swallow it, and give the illusion that it is worthwhile.

+xWhy the f does it matter if AFL still use leather balls? Are you suggesting they will put the balls in the front yard and have mum turn the hose on before she takes them to the game? I think one poster mentioned that it would be worthwhile making the footy heavier, well, I am simply stating that it is already heavier, given that it remains the only football which is still made with real leather. The modern soccerball has the weight and consistency of a rubber winnie-the-pooh ball, the sort you buy at K-mart for $2 - not that there is anything wrong with that.
