Disgusting attitude from some people here. Whatever you thought of her as a journalist (and I agree with the majority opinion here on her being truly awful in regards to football), a real life person with a husband and kids has just died from a horrible illness. Her kids and husband have to now go to a funeral and the last thing they need is a media circus started by the "real fans" who seem to just want to drag our game through the mud and who make comments in extremely bad taste. For anyone who has had to go to a funeral before, imagine how much worse that would be if if was prefaced by a bunch of arseholes talking shit about the recently departed person. If you have nothing nice to say about her, then shut your mouth and move on. The last thing we need is anyone from the football community attacking a woman who just died of cancer. It will only hurt us in the short and long term.
My condolences to her family and friends.

+x+xFFA have decided to get on the front foot - source Dear o dear. Look at the first reply. FFA shouldn't have said anything. Very ironic she's gone on opening day of the A League. To me, with Kyle Sandilands, one of the worst people Australia has had to call their own. I can never celebrate death though and certainly feel for her sons. Cancer is a fucking terrible thing. Knowing full well the people who identify with football would be saying certain things about her, the FFA had to say they were sorry for the loss...otherwise you would see a huge raft of shockjocks say they sat there and said nothing, effectively condoning the comments being made (whether you feel they are justified or not).

The loss of a family member brings terrible grief to the living. My condolences.
Rebecca's passing should be acknowledged peacefully and quietly. If her legacy has not been great then it will not endure. A moment of reflection and then move on. RIP

+x+xIt's not appropriate to speak ill of the dead so as a Mark of respect please join me in raising a few toasts to RW before we all drive home. Is that a sly reference to BEC's alleged drink driving incidents? As sharp as a bowling ball

In her professional capacity the sight &, or sound ofher name had me cringing like no other.
However & regardless of personal, collective disdain theAustralian football community can show levels of maturity & class thisweekend (& around this passing) by simply…
Letting it go!
Hence proving what we knew all along.

+xThank christ for that. No sympathy, she was a stain of a human being. Mate that is pretty disgusting. I hated her comments on football like the rest of us here but seriously at the end of the day it's a sport and we all can have a difference of opinion. She had a family with young kids. Shouldn't be celebrating her death that's just fucked. Can't say im surprised coming from you though.

She was a shit journalist and a c*nt in her professional life but the insidious disease that is cancer has ruined another family. Thoughts are with the family.

+xThe football community needs to be very wary about attacking a woman who has just died of breast cancer. That is the holy grail of cancers for the leftist media and they will have a field day the moment someone says something on Twitter. Good. A perfect time to have a crack at the Left and the Women's Lib movement also. They tried to muscle in on Aussie Soccer in regards to the 2015 Matilda's Pay Dispute. No mercy for Minority Scum that think they run Australia. Time for PAYBACK. A perfect moment now to tell them all to get fucked.

She was a poor writer, deliberately destructive and antagonistic to the point of being a professional troll( revealing the identities of the 198 baned - some of whom were underage) was borderline legal. But somebody loved her( I feel sorry for *them*) and those people are grieving today. It is sad that they have to read tweets about people (football fans) metaphorically dancing on her grave)

Realising now she most likely knew she was ill as she penned the last few spiteful stories makes her all the more a sad and tragic figure in my eyes. I just feel sorry for her living like that through to her untimely death. Of course condolences to the family. She was still a mum.

Dickheads on twitter and facebook are inevitable. Even fake accounts will be set up by the most pathetic wimps. Why real journalists feel the need to quote these dickheads in articles as they inevitably do is beyond me. It's so lazy.
Why is every article in an online publication now a summary of a story followed by what 10 random dickheads said about it. Anyway, whatever.

So Ironic I had to double check the source of my first linked article that she was dead wasn't a satire page. Well we've always said when the previous generation died out things would begin to improve from a media coverage point of view. I'm sure many supporter groups will raise a toast to a departed foe over the weekend. Just dont drive home afterwards!

+xI didn't know Rebecca Wilson, and I vehemently disagreed with some of the things she wrote, but I would never wish for someone to die of cancer, it's a horrible thing for their family to have to go though. For that matter, I would never wish for anyone to die.Sometimes people are decent hardworking people with families, yet they do or say things that let them down. They may not be any good at their job, they may have had indiscretions with the law, or they may have a vested interest in a particular sporting code and may feel threatened by the rise of another sporting code and actively seek to denigrate that code and try to stop it's growth. They may then pass away. When they do, it doesn't serve any purpose for the people they've offended and denigrated to 'vent'. In this case, I think football supporters should just get on with the game and not get involved with any public rehashing of an old story. There's an old saying that 'the best revenge is living well'. Let's enjoy the upcoming football season and all the joy it will bring to us and our families. Well said mate. Easily the best comment on this thread.

Last thing we need is a section of our supporters trying to make statement in bad taste which will only do our game harm. And besides all of that, her family is now mourning her and it's not fair on them to have dickheads hurling abuse in the name of OUR game.

Completely agree Isisius. Yeah sure we didnt like her articles but thats a ridiculous reason to celebrate her death and why this is even having to be discussed is really disappointing. The other thing though thats annoying me is the idea of "we must be nice because then we'll fuel her articles" We should be nice because a human being that was a normal member of society passed away from cancer. What her articles said or what people felt about them or the fall out from anything is completely irrelevant.

Condolences to her family during this tough time. 21 flare salute at the Sydney derby is in order.

Trust me when I see this is definitely not the time to have a crack. The best option is to simply do nothing as doing anything will only make us look bad.
My hope is that both sets of supporters tifos at the derby have nothing to do with Rebecca Wilson as saying anything will look terrible and take away from what would otherwise be a good spectacle.
The best options is to simply do and say nothing.

+xCondolences to her family during this tough time.21 flare salute at the Sydney derby is in order. ^^ I smirked. AU are playing away. I think I'll raise a pint glass at the Hope Inn this Sunday to a departed foe. Gone but never forgotten. The damage you helped foster to football's image will linger long past your death. But as always football will endure and onwards and upwards we go. Somebody else here said "the best revenge is living well." So lets go on and have a great A-League season!

I didn't agree with much of her biased reporting against football, or the disclosure of Football fans identities as 'hooligans" but I will not show any disrespect to her or her family at such a horrid time for them due to her sad passing from cancer.
I extend my sincerest condolences and pay my respect to her family. I wish them well at this sad time.

Its probably too close to the game to alter their tifos, dont they take the best part of a week to plan and make? wk2 could be interesting though :( MBV at home as well;)

She made a living out of slandering people and publicly shaming people. She knowingly tried linking A-League crowd violence to Hillsborough, despite knowing full well how offensively ignorant Im happy she is gone. I don't care if it's celebrating death, horrible people like her shouldn't get the benefit of post mortem respect. Pretty much the same how I felt when Maggie Thatcher finally carked it. +xSupporter groups would have to be absolute fuckwits to chant about this. I didn't like her as much as the next person but if we want to get ourselves in the news for the wrong reasons this would be it. She's passed, it has nothing to do with the football this weekend, move on. Condolences to her family. Totally agree Azza. I'd like to think the footballing community will just move on with business as usual. We have a new season coming up, dont even need to bring it up really.
