Interesting.
I didn't see Lyon bowl in the second innings against SA, but he bowled well in the first. ATM he is Oz's most successful ever finger spinner. I remember a few years ago when we dropped Hauritz, nobody else selected for a while was as good as him. We need to be careful.
We also need more spinning pitches in the Shield.
From left field I'd like to see ACT and Northern Territory teams added to the Shield comp. Also, with more pitches need to play like the Subcontinent, where we must be the current worst team in the world. 13 matches without a win and 10 successive losses in a row!

steve o'keefe has a remarkable bowling record in the shield
it might be difficult to ignore him as cruel as it is (since lyon has done well) He has played 63 matches too so its been sustained over time and his average is 23.44. His recent form has been good too
To put that in perspective Shane warne's first class average is 26

To put it another way
no way should lyon be
dropped
But O'keefes form has been so remarkable he should be replaced

Here's an interesting idea, I wonder if we'd be better off selecting Maxwell at six and then an extra paceman in the side instead of Lyon.
So assuming everyone was fit you could go;
Maxwell, Pattinson, Starc, Hazlewood & Bird.

probably would work at the gabba
On Shield averages you could argue that faulkner deserves to be one of the bowlers
I would go (if i went 4 pacemen)
Maxwell, Faulkner, Pattinson, Starc, Hazlewood
World's longest tail

I'd surmise O'Keefe has taken a lot of wickets in Sydney, but not elsewhere. He looks innocuous at Bellerive.
Wrist spinner, Ahmed, from Victoria, looks more potent at the ground.
After watching a lot of cricket on the Subcontinent, I'm convinced we need more spin friendly wickets in the Shield. I think it is better to watch too. Spinners operating from both ends of the ground means a lot of cricket played.

ahmed's average has dropped below 30 which is world class for a spin bowler
spinners bowl a lot more overs and create wickets for fast bowlers by easing their load. They are also crucial because they are at their most dangerous when the ball is old and fast bowlers become less effective
