The selectors made a judgement five years ago that Shaun Marsh was one of the best batsmen in Australia, but injuries and off-field stuff was preventing him from reaching his full potential. But they persisted with him in the hope he's come good at some point.
He has only just started to come good at the age of 33 but I still wouldn't call him an automatic selection. He did score 60 at the WACA but he honestly looked as shaky at the start of his innings as he has always looked.
He looks like a walking wicket for the first half an hour of every innings he plays, and he still plays with hard hands. That hasn't changed for 5 years.
If they guy had an average of 50 in first class cricket you could justify the patience. But he still only has an average of 40, which is no better than some of the young kids coming through. And he is incredibly injury prone.
It will be an extremely harsh call but I think they have to let him go. Picking him is just as big a risk as picking a young player like Renshaw - but if a young player comes good you'll get a ten year career out of him.
