I think as far a second division is concerned I would be happy for either of them to pick up 1 game per round once it is established.

Imo Foxtel would demand too high a quality. They would want to control all the content on their fb page.

SBS on the other hand seem like they may be more open to sharing/streaming games that they aren't in control of. As your fb page does.

So I guess if SBS streamed 3 matches per round they have access to 1.8 million views.

They could literally stream it and spend the entire 90 on their service and promote upcoming promotion play offs on FB.

Scouting Silicon Valley: Premier League clubs are on the hunt for digital experts to bolster the boardroom

Every transfer window brings with it an arms race between Premier League clubs for the world’s top talent, yet this summer teams have been scouting the geniuses of Silicon Valley alongside the goalscorers of La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga.

Top European football clubs are increasingly searching for boardroom additions who are equipped to manage the opportunities and meet the challenges posed by new technologies.

Both Liverpool’s appointment of former Xbox and EA director, Peter Moore as their new chief executive officer and Manchester United’s selection of former Yahoo and Sony boss Phil Lynch as head of media highlight the areas of expertise that clubs believe are now necessary in the modern football industry.

Headhunting firm Korn Ferry, which is working with Premier League clubs having expanded its sports practice beyond the United States, says clubs are requesting candidates who are experts in digital content.

“We’re currently seeing that trend of digital-focused hires,” Korn Ferry’s sports practice head Richard Sumner told City A.M.

Read more: Have Manchester United reached peak noodle partner?

“Football clubs are increasingly becoming aware of their position as media owners. They’ve had the TV channel and the magazines for a while, but digital platforms allow media owners to drive much more engagement with fans globally.

“It allows you to connect directly with fans worldwide, get more information on who they are, and capture data on who they are.

“Crucially, it allows you to increase sponsorship and brand partnership revenues. Sponsors and brand partners are expecting more and more sophistication from their relationships.

“Over time you’ll start to see a greater focus on CRM [customer relationship management] and analytics as clubs start to break down their fanbase. For football clubs, that’s a new skill-set.”

Manchester United demonstrated their awareness of their position as media owners in February by launching their own Netflix-style MUTV-app which will offer live and archived content to users in more than 160 countries.

Not only does the app allow United to monetise exclusive content across the globe, it will provide them with first-hand data about who their fans are and what they can interact with – data that can help them build a richer offering to sponsors.

Digital hires will be expected to build similar platforms at other clubs, but questions posed by digital media are increasingly likely to permeate all areas of the club’s business.

Sky’s TV audience for live Premier League football declined by 12 per cent last season at the same time as tech giants such as Amazon and Twitter have started showing an interest in purchasing sports rights.

“The bigger teams will have a sporting director that deals with transfers and that side of the business,” Michael Broughton, partner at investment and advisory fund Sports Investment Partners, told City A.M.

“But the chief executive who oversees it all needs to be a bigger-picture man. If [Manchester United managing director] Richard Arnold ever decided to move on, I’d expect there to be someone senior at Instagram or Snapchat to come in.”

Tech professionals willingly trading an office in sunny San Francisco for a Premier League stadium is a realistic proposition, according to Sumner.

Peter Moore cited a lifelong love affair with Liverpool when he left arguably the most high-profile video games job in the world to move to Anfield, yet – while it undoubtedly helps – football’s pulling power doesn’t rely on gaining a hold on the heartstrings.

“There’s always a degree of passion about sport and, particularly in football, people for whom the club is their dream job,” says Sumner.

“But increasingly football is seen at the cutting edge of digital content because you will never get the level of engagement from consumers that you get from football fans.

“And this potential shift in the traditional media model appeals to people who tend to like working in an entrepreneurial, fast-moving environment with a lot of change happening. That’s football as well.”

I don't believe premiere events should be broadcast on FB, definitely not Twitter, however it is an option for second and third divisions. Even as a promotional tool for the a league. I would really like for fox to use their reach on FB to do more.

FFA Cup could be a good start. I have no problem with premier events being on FB.
Foxtel want revenue from FFA Cup though and you have to pay.

I cant see why they cant show the Saturday night game on FB. It is on One FTA anyway. There must be a way to get all the contracts to line up.
Im not sure whether they could stream it live outside of Australia as other have the contracts to the rights (Bet365, BT and so on). This may be the same for FFA Cup, for OS viewers.

Put this in the rating thread but the more I think of it ... should be here ... this seems to be a team choosing streaming over TV...

interesting from the mls
http://deadline.com/2018/01/youtube-tv-soccer-rights-mls-la-1202275534/

YouTube TV Nets Soccer Rights To New L.A. MLS Team
YouTube TV has secured exclusive rights to games from the new Major League Soccer team in Los Angeles, marking the first time a professional sports team elected to forego a television deal for a streaming service.
The online video giant will carry 18 games on the Los Angeles Football Club’s YouTube TV channel, with viewing restricted to subscribers in the Southern California market. YouTube TV will also carry all 18 of the team’s nationally televised matches via its ESPN, Fox and FS1 channels. The service boasts more than 50 channels since launching in April 2017.
YouTube also nabbed naming rights on LAFC jerseys as part of the multiyear deal.
“LAFC is reimagining the sports landscape in the same innovative way we strive to reimagine the live TV experience,” YouTube Director of Sports Partnerships for the Americas Tim Katz said in a statement today. “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with LAFC to be the exclusive home for all locally televised matches and to share our name on the front of their jerseys.”
The deal marks a milestone in live sports programming. Typically, professional sports teams would negotiate a lucrative carriage agreement with local television affiliates or regional sports networks. That’s still the case for leagues that draw sizable television audiences, like the NFL, which just reached a five-year agreement with Fox for Thursday Night Football.
But the MLS’ deal with YouTube signals a potential sea-change for the owners of professional sports teams, especially those with passionate but niche followings, who’ve contemplated going direct to consumers, via Internet streaming services.
YouTube’s deal also may be a sign of greater willingness on the part of technology companies to pay top dollar to obtain the exclusive rights to carry live sports, as these budding media players seek to build out subscription streaming services.
“We are at the forefront in engaging our fans on a digital, cable-free platform such as YouTube,” LAFC owner and president Tom Penn said. “We are also committed to making our matches accessible everyone throughout Los Angeles, and our upcoming broadcast announcements will provide comprehensive coverage of our club all over Southern California.”
The team begins its inaugural season March 4 and will play its home games at the nearly completed Banc of California Stadium downtown.

La Liga to launch multi-sport TV channel

La Liga will launch its own multi-sport TV channel online this summer, its president Javier Tebas has revealed.

The platform will be free for those users who register and will offer Spanish football and other sports too, but will not have live La Liga games yet.

"LaLiga will launch its own multi-sport TV via internet in August," Tebas told Expansion newspaper. "It's the best way to reach our fans directly. Besides our own content, we will re-transmit other sports provided they have the sufficient quality more than how much audience can each sport generate.

"We want to find the way to give visibility to those sports that audiovisually find it impossible to reach the mainstream channels because there are not enough hours to broadcast."

Users will be able to access La Liga content for free, including past La Liga games, interviews and documentaries as well as Spain's second tier (Liga 1|2|3).

However, Tebas did not rule out Spain's top flight being included on the platform in the mid to long term.

"Up to now and for some time, that distribution is and will be of telecom operators or themed OTT [a media distribution practice that allows a streaming content provider to sell audio, video, and other media services directly to the consumer over the internet via streaming media as a standalone product, bypassing telecommunications, cable or broadcast television service providers]," he said.

"But we cannot discard including it the future although that will be determined by the market. That could be considered from 2025 or 2030.

"What is evident is that content owners each time launch more strategies to be directly linked to their clients and fans. Netflix and HBO produce their own films to directly reach their audience."

La Liga's current deals produce yearly earnings of €1 billion ($1.2bn) in Spain and nearly €650m ($758m) in the international market. Tebas announced last year that it expects those TV rights figures to increase by almost 40 percent a season within the next three campaigns.

At the helm of La Liga since 2013, Tebas has worked on strengthening the finances of the 42 first and second-division teams. During his first term, Tebas oversaw the centralisation of TV broadcasting rights in Spanish football, which has allowed the selling of combined rights for all La Liga teams.

Before that, Spain's top division clubs could negotiate their own individual TV deals. Tebas' work has not gone unnoticed with Italy's top flight, Serie A, reportedly keen to prise the 55-year-old lawyer away in a bid to modernise Italian football.

"I want to be in Spain but there are many factors to consider when they give you an offer," Tebas said. "I'm very flattered that they have set their eyes on the CEO of La Liga. Italy wants to follow La Liga, where we have gone through a professionalisation of having 30 workers to 300."

wtf is up with this stream? Watching it on youtube and the chat is flooded with Russians. And they're actually watching it but half are asking what league it is. Don't have the heart to tell them it's a semi amateur league on a little island.

It was a very watchable 1st half. Action and some good play and finishes.

Better than I was expecting.

No idea about Russian second, but if you mixed Zebras and SH together, had them training fulltime and had 5 visa players they would probaby make the 6 in the A-League....
