Have to agree Poppa recruited woefully now the club is scrambling to fill holes. Maybe they need to look at how they recruit next time.

I had read before we have used up all our cap, but I can't help but wonder how?! Look at our squad compared to the non-marquee squad at SFC/MV/MC and we must be worth a million or so less based on an honest appraisal. Paying above and over for journeyman hacks.

I'm not going to pay any attention to the story (which is pure bullshit anyhow) and instead just make up some weird agenda issues.  It's easier and then I will be like most of the rest of the thread.

How long is Western Sydney going to be able to get away with being clearly openly pro-Croation and so openly anti-Macedonian in recruiting?
Kresinger gets a thumbs up but the much idolised, household name, Goran Pandev gets rejected just because he's "foreign"?  There was a time when WSW were allowed more than 5 visa players and they didn't want him then either!  This horrific profiling and rejection of a world renowned and much loved super-star of the game hasn't been criticised by the likes of SBS and FOX Sports because those outlets are riddled with Roman Catholics who take great delight in putting down the Orthodoxy.  You know it's true!

See it's not hard to make up some contentious irrelevant issue that could be true if you like conspiracies is it?

This Marquee rule is nothing but a ruse, a clever swindle by the FFA. Firstly they know how impossible it is to get a marquee player that will fit their criteria. Even it's a player who we deem worthy they can always turn that player down claiming they are not Marquee status. They don't have to spend any money out of budgeted funds and they don't have to hand money over to the A-league clubs claiming funds are tied to a central fund. I will say this fund will be lucky to be used at all next season. It's a joke. In the meantime we are turning down good players playing in excellent leagues. Players which would be ordinarily available if those funds were added to the salary cap for all clubs instead of put aside to a marquee fund the FFA has no intention of spending.

You have a valid point regarding marquee rules for the league but that has ZERO to do with this topic. Salary Cap and visa places is the issue here. After the Griffiths signing, Wanderers have used most of their cap and as it stands their squad has used all five visa spots. The only way this would have worked is if they had an agreement to release one of their visa players to sign Goran instead. That is a very likley senario but then the money saved in the salary cap from that might not have been enough to fit Goran in.

If thats the case then its even dumber. Wanderers either trying to exceed the cap or trying to get another visa spot. Seems crazy

hey if sydney fc can get away with it why cant we?

Wanderers don't officially have 2 marques so it would be interesting to see what the salary cap problems are.

WSW fans need a little perspective. These rules have been with our game changing because Poppa failed in his recruitment would be more contentious.

Don't know what the fuss is, or why anyone is upset with the FFA...  As many others have said on this thread - if WSW had Messi and Ronaldo lined up, they couldn't sign them due to visa limits, not marquee suitability or salary cap issues.

We could have signed one of them, if we released a visa player this frees up the slot but we have to accept his wages in the salary cap, that is no issue as we have a free marquee spot which is outside the salary cap.  So we could pay Messi whatever the asking price was and it would be fine. It would even be cheaper than sneakers at ALDI catalogue. So there is more to this tory than that.  There is no rule on who we can make a marquee, Sydney FC could make Matt Simon a marquee and nothing can be done about it.

we have a free marquee spot which is outside the salary cap.

You don't.

You have used both your marquee spots on Nico & Jumpei.

The rule is a farce. We will set aside money and get no one to come to the league. Get rid of this rule already and give it A-league clubs who can actually put it to good use.

I get the distinct feeling you, and others for that matter, did not read the article.

Source?

http://forum.insidesport.com.au/2481057/Football-Confidential-Central-Coast-Mariners-dispute-with-Mickael-Tavares-getting-nasty

WESTERN Sydney’s bid for Scott McDonald was rejected by Motherwell, but it was always a tall order to land the former Socceroo given the lack of room in the Wanderers’ salary cap. One suggestion put forward from an intermediary was McDonald could come in under the so-called Cahill Rule — as a guest player outside the cap — but that was never going to get the tick of approval from the FFA’s overzealous marketing department.
Part of the problem is Western Sydney already have two marquees — Nicolas Martinez and, basically for accounting purposes, Jumpei Kusukami.

pretty sure the 10 game guest player is an extra visa player. Not to be confused with the guest marquee rule.

So its merely FFA rejecting pandev as a 10 game guest player. Not money related.

We probably would have wanted him this year as a guest on big wages followed by under a marquee.

Regardless of the wanderers circumstances, those thinking that Pandev shouldn't fit guest marquee requirements can go back to AFL.

For who don't just watch Chelsea or Liverpool in the premier league (is the real football fans) they know he is a high profile player, that he's played most of his career at huge clubs like Lazio, Inter and Napoli and that he would be a quality signing. He is exactly what the Guest Marquee should be but clearly the criteria is so strict that there is no realistic target for anyone now that Cahill was signed.

Remember watching him shred an extremely defensive Scotland at Hampden, he would have no problem with the physicality in the A-League.

Totally agree.

He is a player that would generate interest with the football community and as a result bring the others on board too.

Yes, but the player has to meet the marketing criteria. Pandev wouldnt by most measures

You're right, being part of the team that won the European Champions league certainly wouldn't cut it. Nor the fact he has played at numerous high profile teams comparatively speaking.

Oh well, i guess Ronaldo will be over next year im sure. He clearly meets the criteria I hope..
