They'll blow the salary cap out of the water with the guys they are after, so they'll have 5 good players and the rest of the squad made up of youth squad. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article A Griffths Confirmed aswell as Jason Culina AND Possibly Jacob Burns [RUMOUR]? Have your say.

Remember, it is Bleiberg doing the recruiting... They'll promise and ultimately fail to deliver

Culina under Bleiberg would actually work. Bleigberg requires good passers - I'd love to see Culina play under him.

Haha. Bleiberg is a funny man. It's great to have him back. He's like a comedian. One that gets laughed at a lot, rather than laughed with. I'm afraid that if A.Griff does go, that somewhere, Milligan will get an offer and then fly out and leave us with no-one. Unless Milligan has changed his ways.

Agree with the FFT comment that it must've been a helluva deal to snare him away from Joel.

if the GS has really signed these three, it means that Cullina would go back to his favoured more attacking role, so it makes a lot of sense. Part of the carrot for Cullina must be that he gets to play his chosen role not the one he has been slotted into of recent times. SMH reported the Cullina deal as pretty much done this morning. Re the salary cap, it wouldn't take much to top what Griffiths would be on at the tightfisted Jets and in Burns case, I can't image the payrates, when you count currency conversion, would be too hot in Romania.

If Con has let Adam go then I blame him whole heartedly for any failings the Jets undertake for the rest of the season and any other subsequent season herein. I cannot fathom why he would not want to keep hold of Adam. He's been the standout player this year and a far more important signing than Jobe the useless hack Wheelhouse. Seriously is this guy wanting another premiership or is he too worried about the current world economic climate affecting his meagre fortune. Smell the roses Con, you'll lose those who matter most (the fans) if you continue letting our good players go to rival clubs!

While the club have f**ked up big time by letting him go, Wheelhouse and Milligan were both signed after word had filtered back to the Jets that Adam had agreed in principle to join the Gold Coast.
The Jets focussed too much on Joel and just assumed Adam was part of the deal (land one, get the other). Perhaps they underestimated his pulling power cause he has been our best player this year and deserved a decent offer... Miron obviously thought so. Devastating.

Salary Cap is going to 2.5 million next year and the number of International player spots is increasing to 5.

Why the fuck would they sign Burns, Culina AND griffiths! They basically play the same position! Although A.G can play defense, and culina can play AM.
Seems odd though.

Exciting news! I am waiting for the day more A-league players are starting Socceroos. The Socceroos have a very good following whilst the A-league is ebbs and flows. When we can blur the lines between a Socceroo and an A-league player we will have a very competitive domestic comp.

griffiths seems possible now with the milligan signing, but i highly doubt burns will, and am almost certain culina wont, hes to young to come back yet, and he needs to be playing quality football overseas

Cullina prefers an attacking midfield role, Burns does the covering, and Griffiths plays central defence (he's not a midfielder). They complement each other. As for Cullina not coming back, maybe coming home is an attraction in its own right. People consistently underestimate this factor. So if the money is as good as anything he can get in Europe, why not? And he would be aware of the fact that having a star Roo come back at the peak of their career is a huge positive for the League. I hope he does. I think it would be great for the game here.

Id be very sad if Cullin acomes back next year - he is way too young and is still at the top of euro leagues. We need at least SOME players playing overseas - the NT CANNOT be succesful if all our players are playing Alge.

As more of these guys come back earlier it will be better for players like Culina to come back as they will still be playing quality football. I'd actually like to see a lot of the older guys come back straight after the world cup - something Skoko and others would have been perfect for.

yeah it would improve the standard of the league. but it might make the players skill level drop

Well then you have a serious dilemma. Do you improve the league at a few players expense, or improve a few players at the leagues expense?
The players skill level will not drop if this becomes common. Players like Donovan in the American league prove this. We need to recruit overseas stars (Aussie and foreign) better, and teach our WC stars that there is no great problem in playing in the league. At the moment there is, and that is the problem. It would take change, and I'm not even saying that this is a good move for Culina.

Yeah I can see were your coming from and it's not as if Culina is the best player in the world. he's solid. So yeah from the league perspective great:d :d From Jason's perspective dud move

Did you guys see my new GCU blog today? There are now eight confirmed signings, plus Smeltz 99% certain and maybe Culina about 50% at this stage IMHO. I've covered most of the other rumours (not all).
The other 442 GCU blogger has a piece about why Culina would be a good fit. I'd love to see him here but I think Sterjovski has also been approached and for him a move to GC is more logical.

GazGoldCoast - Seems like an awful lot of speculation from hopeful "fans" at this point. They'll certainly be a force to be reckoned with if they pull it all off though.

Now the Telegraph is reporting that Culina has already told friends he has accepted a $1.4 million offer, and the FFA is warning clubs about breaching the "spirit" of the salary cap with exorbitant transfer fees coming to the player via their old club. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,24561808-5006068,00.html

Hmmmn, reading a bit more carefully into it, Culina might have signed a deal through his agent which the Gold Coast is now taking to FFA, to check whether it is legal. Sounds like the agents have worked out how to exploit a loophole (the club the player is leaving gives him a big THANK YOU payoff as part of the deal) and FFA will have to close it fast - or open the floodgates.

On the back of the Newcastle herald today, it had adam griffiths denying he had signed with gold coast... he said he had discussed things with them but doesn't know why everyone is saying he has signed. The jets are offering him close to $200 000 a season to stay with them so we shall see

im skeptical, personally i wontg beleive shit unitl i see the team sheet for their first game. although how good would their team be with the rumoured players. i do belive along with those two they could get one of either sterjovski, cullina or chipperfield, i dont see anyway possible of them getting all three, burns would be good to.
