Doesn't know what he's talking about.. 10 games isn't long enough to understand Strayan kulcha

Might be long enough in Gosford  to spot there was something missing without relegation

Liverpool great Luis Garcia backs calls for national second divisionLiverpool great Luis Garcia at Glenelg Golf Club, where he and other legends enjoyed a round. Picture: Sarah ReedLiverpool great Luis Garcia at Glenelg Golf Club, where he and other legends enjoyed a round. Picture: Sarah ReedUEFA Champions League winner Luis Garcia says the A-League needs a second division to help more Australian youngsters fulfil their potential. The Liverpool great also said clubs should take a more hands-on approach in developing talented players from the age of seven.Garcia’s comments came a week on from the inaugural board meeting of the Association of Australian Football Clubs, an independent body working on a model for a national second tier. The Spaniard, who had a 10-game stint with Central Coast Mariners last year, urged Football Federation Australia to turn the vision into a reality.“It’s the next step,” Garcia, 39, said.“Now that the (A-League) competition is already set with the teams they’ve got, they need to improve on that.“The players that are 18, 19 or 20 years old could develop in a second division and that will make them better players, not just playing a few friendly games.“It will also make the teams in the first division improve and try to do better, because right now there is no relegation and no promotion, just a winner.”Garcia was in town to play in tonight’s Battle of the Reds legends tournament at Adelaide Arena. The winger has a love of Australia borne out of regular visits as a Liverpool ambassador and his four-month spell as a Mariners player during the 2015/16 campaign.Luis Garcia celebrates his winning goal against Chelsea in the 2005 UEFA Champions League semi-final. Picture: Laurence Griffiths/Getty ImagesWhile impressed by the standard of the A-League, Garcia said clubs at all levels needed to devote more resources to children taking their first steps in the game.“The most important thing is that the young kids start having the passion for football,” said Garcia, a graduate of Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy.“A lot of young players start playing football at school, but they are not training three or four times a week.“I’ve got kids back home (in Spain) where they train three times a week and they are only seven and eight years old.“That’s what has to happen here in Australia.”Garcia will line up in the indoor five-a-side event for a Liverpool legends side featuring former teammates Dietmar Hamann, John Arne Riise and Fabio Aurelio. The 122-game Reds star was looking forward to rekindling an intense rivalry against a team of Manchester United greats, led by French striker Louis Saha.“Barcelona against Real Madrid and Manchester United against Liverpool are probably the two biggest games in football.“It’s quite something to bring these two teams to the other side of the world, because they (supporters) don’t have many chances to watch live games like this one.“For us it’s also very important to give back a little bit of the love that we felt from the supporters when we were players.“Once you retire, you start seeing that people are totally in love with Liverpool around the world and how many crazy things they have to do to even watch a game live on TV at 3am.”The diminutive Garcia won four trophies in three seasons at Anfield, capped by the dramatic come-from-behind triumph over AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League decider in Istanbul.Luis Garcia in action for Central Coast Mariners during the 2015/16 A-League season. Picture: Ashley Feder/Getty ImagesHe earned a reputation for scoring important goals in big matches, building a close bond with Liverpool supporters which lasts to this day.“I arrived into a new culture and a new city with different players and a different language,” the 20-cap Spanish international said.“But I felt at home because the club treated me so well and the supporters from the first game helped me so much to adapt.“They (the fans) made a song about me and I think after that everything started looking so bright.“To think that whole crowd has been thinking about some words just for you, you cannot express with words the feeling.“It’s been 13 years since then and they still sing it some times.”http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/football/a-league/liverpool-great-luis-garcia-backs-calls-for-national-second-division/news-story/b00cc4baa961ddc8e70b750e32431d22

He's been here less than two years and he nails it. So does everyone else with actual interest and passion for football too. They understand what needs to be done and why a second division is such a big deal.

Something so significate shouldn't be held back to Australian shores only, It must include NZ for the better of the game. I've yet to see any reasons why this should not be the case and 2 maybe 3 teams from NZ would work out well and strengthen the competition.

If there isn't no promotion (and perhaps relegation involved) to the A-League from the first year of a 2nd division there is little incentive for clubs to fork out what PFA expect.
But there won't be.

If there was then we could perhaps witness some interesting things happen investment wise in football....

None pro league to get it started. Get it sorted out and fix any problems before the next tv deal. Then aim for a combined A-League/2nd division to be sold.

Pro 2nd league in 6 years as a goal but get it started first.

I agree. What the PFA are saying is if you cant afford it then you shouldnt be there. But very few clubs in the NPL could afford the 5 mil.

The irony is, without a second div they wont be able to raise the capital needed because its less attractive to supporters and sponsors.

A better way would be to start it semi pro (with a few pro teams like south) and set benchmarks over a period of time. If you cant meet those benchmarks then you forfeit your place in the second div and are replaced. Once the second div is fully professional then you could consider promotion relegation.

It also provides incentive for any clubs not initially in the second division to lift their standards, and if there are enough at that level you can consider a 3rd div, or at the very lease have good clubs coming in from the NPL to the A2.

I feel we could implement promotion/relegation immediately with one difference till everything is up and running which is no relegation from the top 2 divisions. For instance lets say the aim is 14 teams in the HAL. We start a 2nd div of lets say 10 teams who have each proposed a bid to the A League and shown they are financially stable in either division. Anyway what would happen is for 4 years the top team wins promotion to the HAL and likewise the top team from the 3rd division to the 2nd division, this will allow more teams who wish to invest a chance at a larger revenue slice while increasing lower league interest.

After 4 years there'll be one last 5th season of no relegation, sadly no promotion either but with the aim of solidifying the changes for a year. From there those who don't want to invest will simply be relegated and those who do will likely win themselves promotion and thus the pyramid is in full effect.

Just might be too much too soon. Any relegated team ala mariners who drop down would find it hard to stay afloat let alone promoted again. You would need the 2nd div financially to not be a huge a drop financially from the HAL (unless there are parachute payments).

5 years is a good amount of time if you ask me, but if the Mariners tank then so be it really. It is a system which doesn't require every club to be successful, some teams will plummet down the leagues some will stay or become strong.

When did Townsville have a team in the NSL? You seem to know an awful lot about it. Could even call you an expert.

Has anyone considered that if we had a fully professional second divsion for three or four years with no promotion /relegation from the HAL,there is actually no certainty that the HAL is the top division.
The teams from each div don't meet. A strong team could emerge in div2 that could beat the top HAL team. The HAL is only top by name only.
