+xI am not aware of the ALM (or APL for that matter) being involved in setting up the NSD so the reference to ‘influential clubs ‘ must mean NPL clubs. I must admit I am not up to date with who the ‘top dogs’ are in the NPL set up, perhaps someone can enlighten me. JJ says in the article the APL and PFA will be consulted in the latter part of the process because they are important stakeholders.

+xWe better brace ourselves. Whatever the more influential clubs want, that's what we'll get. The "influential clubs" in the ALM shouldn't be having a say and AAFC has done a good job of bringing the NPL clubs together in support of an NSD so there should be no problems there. I think this is the real test for JJ. Giving the ALM wider influence and more presence in the upper tiers of our pyramid is not what football needs at this time.

If we implement the league gap like Germany. The highest league a B-team (first team playing A-League) can play is NPL which I think is fair. Div 3 as the pinnacle for reserves would be fine IMO. I dont think we can cater for the Spanish/Dutch model where B-teams can be directly below a division. That also means if Glory hypothetically got relegated from the top flight, their NPL team would drop too which could be interesting flavour.

+x+xJust out of curiosity, if Sydney FC win the NPL NSW would they then be aiming for a spot in the NSD? They would of theoretically "earned" it. Format is being worked out now Then criteria for entry Then a starting 12 will be invited If the format chosen allows for Promotion into it, then the procedure will be announced along with a timeline Hopefully its a standard league as per AAFC preferred model with an immediate P/R for NPL qualifiers No fucking Academies, ressies or similar bullshit Amen.

I agree that the NSD should be for separate clubs not ALM aligned teams.

For a football fan not sure about what happens outside of franchised leagues its a fair point he/she makes Muz... @gul15 I guess, like everywhere, pretty much else, in the world B teams will not be able to compete in the same league as their "firsts" as a matter of conflict of interest and the promotion spot will go to the next eligible club... After a few seasons of this being in place (not that I believe it will EVER happen here) the so called Aleague academy teams will not be in any position to even think about competing in the NPL let alone winning it.

Is this actually starting? 6 months to go until the new year.. you would have thought there would be an announcement so clubs have time to get ready for 2023.

Thanks, I just threw up in my mouth a little :( "In collaboration with Kleinmann Wang, a consultancy firm led by Football NSW chairman Anter Isaac" "Assuming that no objections are raised by chairperson Chris Nikou's board" "which might require clubs to change the way they're governed and managed." "as a concept to be grandfathered in or immediate, upon its launch." "Regulations surrounding the encoding of young player minutes into the competition's framework will also be the subject of discussion. "It's going to be a senior competition with a youth development flavour throughout it," said Johnson"

+x+x+x+x+x+xBring ON the NSD....can't wait. No news and its already June..... Starting to think it may not happen next year at this stage. Would have thought they would have at least announced the clubs involved by now...... ? Imo not starting next season would be a missed opportunity given all the football-related events that are set to happen next season. It was mentioned by the JJ guru that is exactely what they wish to capitilise on due to the WWC. Yes MSC its been quiet but lets keep the faith at this stage. When do you reckon they would announce it, if it all goes to plan? Considering that the next ALM season will start after the World Cup there is plenty of time to get things organised. I would expect major announcements to be made around August/September. I agree, they will ask for expressions of interest ( with extremely vague guidelines like last time) in September or October with a league starting date of January... There will ofcourse be only 2 or 3 NPL clubs with the wherewithal to get up and running, squad and administration wise ,in the time and the FA will say, "No problem the other 12 teams in the league will be Aleague academy youth squads."......

+x+x+x+xI heard Townsend in interviews on multiple podcasts on this. It's a long time ago so, I think one was on aleague podcast with Danny Garb and Rob Cornthwaite, another could of been Box2Box Towsend is a lowlife. He does not reflect the general opinion of the football landscape in Australia. As I've said, restructure the competitions and let those that want you go, to piss off! Those that want to stay, to stay.
+xhes a white collar guy nowadays and its all about the model and money. As an ex player you'd think he'd have the experience from way back then but not this bloke.
He's the face of the new management, and represents what they want for their financiers football.
+xPffft he was shit, ex player? hahahahah he had 6 appearances with Sydney Croatia Wasn't that in Sydney United's Premiership season? Not that it matters since the 'champion' gets all the credit anyway.
And what a champion it was that year..... :) Not to have a dig at previous winners like SM and Wollongong but between that and the Perth Glory Premiership the following season is why I largely despise the finals series as a concept and how it's connected to the league (don't even mention the farce behind Victory's last GF win). I will give credit to the APL for this season's format in getting the balance right - the top 2 get the extra time to prepare and get 2-legs to play, whilst the winners get the same time to prepare for the final - but I wish it was treated as its own thing though, like what the NSL cup was initially. I don't disagree, I wish more emphasis was placed on the league champion as opposed to the millions of different formulas we have used over the past 50 years to determine finals placings.... It is what it is though and, with a lack of competitive tension seen throughout the world with pro/rel, end of year placements determining who will and won't go to continental cups the next year. Plus most countries have at least a national cup and some sort of league cup, therefore plenty of finals to go around and the championship is clearly defined.... Maybe/if the Australia cup ever gains a bit of prestige and winning the Aleague is a stepping stone to meaningful competition in ACL we can mature enough to do away with finals...... maybe. But for now, its the way we decide things here.... I don't mind, unless South loses ofcourse :)

Sorry that should read ‘rumoured expansion to 14 teams’.

BA BOOM ! yep yep and yep........exactely why I posted originally about him, its all about the metric$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$'$ It always was mate... Don't blame the guy, he is obviously on good coin with APL, but dont think for a second he isnt just a mouthpiece for the money bags behind him.... As an ex footballer of sorts he may well have some understanding of what sporting achievement is all about but his bills are paid by people who DON'T CARE about any of that. Asking APL owners to open up the league is like asking any rich SOB to share his wealth ... Aint gonna happen.
