Was in the chair at the barber and had a thought. With Sainsbury being awkward at the back, perhaps he'd slot into midfield already. He did well there at Grasshoppers.
I say this mainly as there have been calls for Degenek to be included and then putting Milligan higher up. At the same time I think Luongo Mooy and Rogic worked very well and should be persisted with. I like our squad's having such versatility.
On the left back front I think Meredith needs the call up as Gersbach hasn't played at all. How annoying Elder couldn't secure a Wigan move.

That configuration of -------------Ryan--------------------- Risdon--Denegek-Sains-Behich Mooy Milligan Rogic-- Leckie--------------------Mabil -----------Gainnou---------------- works for me

Until Sains plays more with PSV, ATM Milligan and Degenek are playing better as CBs.

Looks like Taggart is injured again.
For how long I don't know?

Won't make the Asian Cup squad but if Terry Antonis keeps up this form, he'll surely be back in the mix.

I've thought we must have a lot of depth in central midfield if Antonis isn't in the Socceroos. He has been culpable as part of a team unit for some defensive mistakes at MV that have led to goals being conceded. Nevertheless, there is a lot to like about his game. He could be like Mark Milligan, in that playing a few seasons with Melb Victory really provides a resurgence for his career.

+xOn the left back front I think Meredith needs the call up as Gersbach hasn't played at all. How annoying Elder couldn't secure a Wigan move. Meredith struggles to play so much football on the deck. He has said it himself. His first touch quality comes under scrutiny for international football.

I'm impressed by his engine and defence but if he admits that, Gersbach is much better on the ball.

Major Roos announcement due at 12:30. I wonder? Asian Cup squad already? Surely not. Maybe a provisional 35.

The level of detachment from reality necessary to believe that this is a "new era", let alone an improvement, absolutely baffles me. How do people this dumb reach such high paying positions in society?

Whoever designed the original obviously sat down so long looking at the design, because the original one was shite as it is.

Will Australian games be on Australian free to air for the Asian Cup? No European channel seems to have anything. Bein Sports for the ME but Eurosport or DAZN don't seem interested. VPN should d the trick and those Vietnamese Youtube guys should help. Just so frustrating every time with our games there's no clear broadcaster abroad.

Thoughts on Ikon being given a crack as striker? I reckon he's a much better option than the likes of Maclaren/Taggart etc. i think he'd provide much more in the front third than them. I know he's not an out and out striker but we don't have any banging on the door exactly. Certainly needs to be in the squad for mine.
Technically one of the best attackers we have IMO, great movement, can finish, gets involved in the build up play well and also has the ability to hold up play if needed. Definitely has the ability to play at a higher level, but for his sake I really hope he stays in the A-League for a couple of seasons.

I second this If Arnie wants to play with a fluid front 3 then Ikon has to be considered. He never looked out of place under Ange

I think Giannou should be the starting striker and would prefer Nabbout and Ikon off the bench as wel.

IMO I’d like to see the following pecking order.
Plan A:
Mabil - Leckie - Boyle
Plan B:
Mabil - Giannou - Boyle
Plan C:
Mabil - Nabbout - Boyle

I saw the goal he scored in this round, but I didn't see the rest of the game. In the games I've seen him play for Glory he has looked good enough for a Socceroo call up, apart from against Nix in Wellington.
