Thankfully this works on my phone but is it jut me who sees the play button constantly spinning in circles bottom left in all browsers? I recall having the exact same issue when signing up months back. Annoying.

Interesting insight from the camera angles of our game in Honduras. Honduras didn't offer much that game but to think how composed Jurman and Risdon were is a credit to their professionalism. Wright also had a good game after being under a lot of scrutiny from the previous rounds. They didn't show the Juric divot.

I think we are trying move on from 35y.o cbs.
wilkinson, Williams, spiranovic, jurman, mrcela etc and any around 30+y.o currently aren’t going to get chosen with the WC in mind in 23’ imo.

This year
Sainsbury 28
Wright 28
Dellbridge 28
Good 27
Degenek 25
Susnajr 25
Deng 23
Souttar 22

beyond this...
youth
Mourdokoutas 21
Ryan 20
Courtney-Perkins 18

add another 3 years until WC and most in prime, late 20s, early 30s in 23’

2022 next WCUP- but see your point still 😉

EFL young player of the month, perhaps?

well, sainsbury has been playing. but there are very good options that are also playing regularly.

good, mrcela, delbridge, wilkinson

sainsbury has not been offering a big step up in quality for a while either way. hopefully that has improved since going to israel.

also mathew jurman is a great centreback - what has his form been like at wsw?

yeah but we are not talking kewell vs a some random ccm player. there is no kewell or cahill in the squad.  the only players remotely close to that kind of talent - ryan and mooy- have no question marks over them.

all other players are completely replaceable and there are other options available that are playing.

there's a few names getting thrown around that can't even make the cut at their clubs. they should not be in the NT squads. smith and arzani are the obvious names in this. rogic and leckie need to have some serious questions asked about them. there are more.

we can't be making these soft concessions to the NT. again and again it just kills us. giving free passes to players making shitty club choices or not playing at their club. you watch. leave them out of the NT. they will make some pretty fucking quick club choices.

there are more deserving options.

Smith I think deserves some leniency... he won the fucking league for gods sake?? Cahill never did, even though he had fucking Henry next to him...? Yes a mid season move to a club in the champs was always going to be difficult to get a chance when they are on the brink of playoff spots..Joe Bennett aint half bad either..

I think Behich is a great player, but Brad gives us a different option and is made for the way we play..

"we can't be making these soft concessions to the NT" - then I expect Jackson to be dropped... cant even get arun and hes the captain!!!! worst run they have had in 40 years... 11 losses in a row...

This^ . So long as he is not injured Mooy will always at least be picked on our bench at minimum even if he wasn't playing any minutes. Viduka and Kewell were the same. Sainsbury was still picked for years despite not playing at club level has has been consistently excellent (starting to decline a bit lately though)

It's a difficult thing to make absolute rulings on, as the above posters seem to have attempted, as there is always individual contexts.

No international coach is going to pick the guy playing every minute for CCM over a squad player at Barcelona, for example.

It's an interesting one. I recall many games where Sterjovski, Carney and others who I felt were more fringe put in great games when top fit over and injury clouded Bresciano or Chipperfield. Still though, how much does a player really regress with less match time ? I guess with our players it appears to be a lot.

they might lose touch maybe fitness too but they'll be fresher (both mentally and physically) and carrying less injuries and niggles - unless its an injury thats sidlining them as opposed to simply not being selected eg leckie

i dont think its a black and white as that more case by case basis. You pick your best 11 whether playing or not playing etc. A half fit mooy for instance is still better than a fit jeggo for instance.

in other words its all relative to the alternatives you have available?

so players doing the work, making the cut at their club, playing games, should miss out?

nope.  going through a rough patch is missing a few games. mooy went through a rough patch and worked his way into the first 11 at brighton. this isn't kindergarten. no participation awards. some of the names talked about on this thread have hardly played this season. the NT isn't a rehab facility. they need to sort their shit out.

Doubt it, the March matches likely to be pushed to September or October FIFA dates, meaning final round of qualifiers will be very packed. I reckon even the June qualifiers are doubtful and Copa might be cancelled. Would be gutted if Copa is cancelled. Covid-19 numbers starting to appear in South America. Will go through there like a hot curry.

AFC just announced that March and June qualifiers have been postponed, unless opposing nations mutually agree to go ahead and FIFA and AFC approve. We are risk averse, so postponed for sure I’d say. Clubs won’t be happy if we go ahead.

this.

In fact playing for the national team helps key players get back to form and fitness and can assist them getting club moves. Kewell put in some great performances for the roos despite being out of the equation club wise from 06-08.

also think the good or delbridge question has been answered now. delbridge looks like he might be going to have some trouble getting his spot back from rostyn griffiths.  curtis good for the squad.

also, how about mrcela? i missed the first 30 minutes of the city v glory game and the 3 goals that glory copped. but glory have been pretty tight at the back. do you think that's mrcela?  defensively, if souttar is making it in the team then mrcela is a step up. mrcela for the squad.

how has lawrence thomas looked this season? i don't watch much victory, but he is a very good keeper. at 27 he should be getting a look in.

Got us into the ACL. Our season would look much, much worse without him. Should be captain after Broxham.

Maybe only Mooy isn’t ‘replaceable’

mooy and ryan would be the biggest loses but we would get by just fine.  no one should feel like their spot is safe. this culture of soft caps has to end.

there is not a single irreplaceable player in our NT squad. there a a couple that we are better with. but there is not a single player at the moment that our NT is dependent upon. so we should not be pandering to mediocre club form and choices. no matter their history

When he was playing week in week out in MLS id have been happy to see his recall but jesus he isnt playing at present

Wonder if Socceroos would get invite to following Copa to be played if 2020 copa is cancelled?! 🤞

I certainly hope so, such an opportunity to be missed. But I can see the 2021 international calendar being packed with catch up matches. FIFA might have to find some more dates, which will be interesting if club competitions are also playing catch up!
Maybe the South Americans will say stuff it and play this Copa behind closed doors?
