+x+xDevil is in the detail... Fox were always going to charge the FFA $2m for providing the coverage to FTA, which the FFA had to recoup from the FTA network before they made any money for themselves. So the big question is - are Fox paying the FFA $2m for the rights to on-sell, or are they waiving the $2m in return for being able to on-sell? It makes no difference to how much money the FFA actually has - but it appears that they are trying to make out that they are $2m better off, when in reality they probably aren't. Oh well... Still, despite that technicality... Positive news that the game will be on a major network - even if it is on their secondary channel. it doesn't make a difference to be honest.... For the next 2 years, it will be on OneHD. Either way, foxtel or channel 10 have to make money off this one game a week even though its only 2 million a year. I would of been happy if One HD got it for free to be honest That is precisely the point Benjamin is making, as far as the FFA is concerned, Ten is getting the A-League for free.

+xBut will they do half time interviews? Well memed, but fortunately they're taking the Fox Sports feed in it's entirety.

+xDoes everything start the same time next A-League season starts - i.e. any Socceroos friendlies before that won't be FTA? Also I'm assuming the Friday game will no longer be on SBS? Correct. SBS are done and dusted.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this, but this article is from the NZ press: https://nz.sports.yahoo.com/football/a/35734202/tens-a-league-tv-deal-a-mixed-bag-expert/#page1Far from landing the big pay day it hoped, Football Federation Australia may at best have broken even in a new arrangement to broadcast A-League matches on free-to-air TV. Network Ten will live simulcast Fox Sports' coverage of Saturday night games on its One channel after SBS2's Friday night coverage ended last season. It essentially means FFA failed to sell free-to-air rights to a major commercial network's main channel. Instead, it went back to Fox Sports under its six-year, $346 million deal to broadcast all games. "If it was on Ten's main channel, that would be much, much more attractive. Channel Ten has got to attract people across to One to build it. "Unless they do some massive cross-promotion, it's not necessarily going to be a huge winner." Smith said Fox Sports was the biggest benefactor from the deal. "In essence, it's not going head-to-head (with a rival network)," he said. "Clearly the strategy of Fox Sports is different to what it used to be and it's saying, 'we'll put some content on free-to-air as an enticer to subscribe'."

This is a step in the right direction for exposure. My only issue is that it will be broadcast in Standard Definition, which is a real shame to see in this day and age. My big hope is that when the next Sydney or Melbourne derby is on, they'll host it on the main TEN channel, so we can get: a) A prolific A-League derby match on FTA b) Live in HD c) On a Saturday night during November/December when there's no other sporting competition d) AND there's decent cross-promotion and media hype in the lead up.
I hope that TEN take the chance to do that for the prolific games (even if it's just 2-3 times per season) so we can get a definitive answer on what the A-League viewing figures are capable of hitting.

I have to agree with bluebird here a bit. Sbs and channel 10 were both as accessible as one another.

+x+x+x+x+x+xOk so Ten network is paying $250k for the A-League, $30k less then what SKY TV NZ pay. How do those metrics work. Because rejecting Ten is a huge opportunity cost in terms of potential future investment and growth. There is no growth in NZ. $250k is pretty much the ceiling. Time to cut you loose. $250k to $270k is better then $150k, SKY TV over pays for the A-League rights anyway and this proves it. You understand what potential and opportunity cost is? Yes I know what your saying, However the way the FFA went on about the FTA rights as if they were a golden carrot and before then publicly wanting more money from SKY TV to met metrics is a joke. How can they expect more money from SKY TV when no one was lining up to even get the on sell rights from FOX, not even the ABC. Doesn't SKY pay for 5 games a week? They over pay for 4 to 5 games and film/produce Wellington home games.

I am expecting alot of cross promotion on Tens top rating shows The Project , Ten news etc. Now that we are part of the cartel that is Nine Seven Ten I am expecting an uptick in the amount of cross promotion between networks as occurs in other codes. Something SBS couldnt deliver.!!!

So what would be better for football on Ten? Ten loses the BBL to another network and leaves Ten with just A League.

+xWith this $2mill /yr for fta added to the $50mill/yr (plus extras maybe) the totl tv deal is $52+ mill .This compare to $6mill/yr for SBS and $40mill for Fox=$46mill. So an uplift of $6mill /yr ,but over 6 years. So you could say starting at $4mill in the first year and finishing at $8mill in year six.As we dont know the skew in payments per yr.If anyone believes Bluecuckoo ,then the fta ratings wont improve ,so all FFA have managed to do is increase tv revenue by $4mill -$8mill /yr over six years.....it's not surprising that growth of the game is linked to growth in revenue. No expansion...equates to limited growth in earnings.Hardly a surprising result. there's no evidence there is any more cash from this announcement

+x+x+x“The arrangement between Fox Sports and Network Ten will ensure more fans than ever before get to watch the best Australian footballers in action every week,” Ok....So who didn't have access to SBS? We want to give it a regular timeslot, and give it the chance to grow. We can promote it through our news bulletins, through programs like The Project — through a range of appropriate shows.“That benefits us, and gives us a chance to use A-League talent in building the competition’s profile. 13 | THE PROJECT 7PM | Network Ten | 603,000 | 147,000 | 194,000 | 116,000 | 65,000 | 81,000 | 14 | HOT SEAT | Nine | 589,000 | 207,000 | 195,000 | 144,000 | 42,000 | 0 | 15 | HOUSE RULES – WED | Seven Network | 585,000 | 0 | 298,000 | 0 | 108,000 | 179,000 | 16 | TEN EYEWITNESS NEWS FIRST AT FIVE | Network Ten | 519,000 | 142,000 | 142,000 | 99,000 | 55,000 | 81,000 | http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2017/06/wednesday-31-may-2017.htmlYou cant argue having it on 7 9 or 10 (or their stations) doesnt legitimise it for many Australian viewers. Dont worry the arse clown bluebird is arguing exactly that. Cross promotion means nothing to him. You should already know games are on so wont make a difference. That's what he thinks.

+xAre SBS about to get the sulks again... Taken from the SBS article on the deal.. It essentially means FFA failed to sell the free-to-air (FTA) rights directly to a major commercial network despite it being a better deal than what was sold to SBS, who had the rights to Friday night matches and had to broadcast the entire finals series on an hour delay. FFA have subsequently reverted to Fox Sports under its six-year, $346 million deal to broadcast all games. Fox Sports would then have on-sold the FTA rights to Ten in a deal likely to be worth significantly less cash for FFA than what incumbent FTA partner SBS has been paying. Regardless, FFA chief executive David Gallop described it as a "win for football fans and an opportunity for us to showcase our game on a commercial network with a recent history of successfully covering major sport". Again... I don't give a stuff.... I know that no FTA network was going to pay 10-15 million a year for 1 A-league game a week. Again, If A-league games are regularly pulling 300-500,000 a week on Saturday Nights then it is irrelevant.

+x+x+x+x“The arrangement between Fox Sports and Network Ten will ensure more fans than ever before get to watch the best Australian footballers in action every week,” Ok....So who didn't have access to SBS? mate just fuck off, you know exactly why more people watch 10/One over SBS. It's not rocket science. Spare us the contrarian crap. Throwing a tantrum doesn't change the way society functions. Anyway, I'm glad I have this: Very good. Cross-promo, ONE (with a chance to move up to 10) and taking Fox's full coverage. Good good good.
Expecting 200-250k for smaller games and 350-500k for derbies. No excuses nowWe will see once and for all who was right. My prediction: 250k-275k for the Sydney derby which is the biggest game and never been on FTA 225k for the Melbourne derby, same size as the MV and WSW game on SBS 170k-174k for the round 2 or 3 game either side while the season is still hot - similar to SBS peak numbers for normal games 125k-175k for games rounds 4-10 - sustained interest, similar to SBS 75k-100k for games rounds 11-27 - summer sports overlap, similar to SBS Conclusion: No different to SBS you will be proven wrong

+xAll finals and the grand final live, too. Just confirmed on Melbourne radio. So your saying Next Years A-league grand Final is live on One HD? Hopefully its 2 big drawing sides. Had the big blue derby been live on Ten this season, it would of drawn huge numbers.
