Daniel De Silva about to be revealed by CCM

After years of struggling to make ends meet, Central Coast Mariners are on the cusp of unveiling a marquee signing with former Australian youth international Daniel De Silva poised to join the club on a long-term deal.

One of the most highly-rated prospects in Australian football is awaiting clearance from Italy to finalise a transfer from Serie A giants, Roma, before he will sign a three-year deal with the Mariners, where it is understood he will become registered as a marquee player.

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/central-coast-mariners-set-to-sign-daniel-de-silva-from-serie-a-giants-as-roma-20170706-gx66x8.html

His whole transfer situation has got to be the most confusing in Australian football history.  I thought he was still owned by Perth.

Says here that WSW and Newcastle have "previously indicated their interest in..." Mark Bridge

Mark Milligan's prospects of a move to England have improved with Australia moving to 45 in today's FIFA rankings.

i did the maths on that today and thought we were only moving up one spot - but then i looked at the forecasts for the teams ahead of us - south korea and japan included - and they are slipping.  didnt know how long we had to waiit for that.  if we win the next 2 qualifying games we will jump further - considering todays movement was pretty much on the weight of the saudi game - 940 or so points.

interestingly brazil lost number one because they played us

A Sydney Morning Herald article from 26 June reported that Harry Ascroft is over in England trialing with Barnsley, looking to get a permanent deal.

"Meanwhile, Central Coast Mariners defender Harry Ascroft has the chance to play in England after being granted a request to go on trial with Championship club Barnsley FC. It's understood the Mariners allowed the 21-year-old former Australian youth international to take time out of their pre-season to move to the South Yorkshire club where he will have a chance to impress their coach Paul Heckingbottom and earn himself a permanent deal."

Looks like Ikon is back at Lazio at the moment
https://ionascoquiapiazzadellaliberta.wordpress.com/2017/07/04/chris-oikonomidis-sono-contento-di-essere-tornato-in-biancoceleste-sono-molto-carico-ritrovero-con-piacere-mister-inzaghi/

However, it looks like Salernitana (his former loan club in Serie B) are interested in getting him back to reinforce their squad.
http://www.solosalerno.it/2017/07/04/lotito-ripensa-ad-oikonomidis-in-lista-di-sbarco-dalla-lazio-e-gradito-a-bollini/

The translation is a bit rough, but it appears to be that his last time there ended on a sour note. Actually, remembering back, I think he ditched his club during a relegation scrap to come and sit on the bench for Australia.

Anyway, it could be good for his development, as he hasn't shown enough to break into Lazio's first team.

Bunch of Hacks - 5 Jul 2017 7:29 PM

The rogic rumour you posted is from mid last year. Nothing been reported this window

my bad.  im just used to that one being around and thinking nothing much of it.  he should be thinking about a move though.  24 and he's in good form and health.  he would be a relatively cheap pick up for a lot of teams looking for a threat from midfield.  there must surely be some offers around.

im just gonna leave the old rumour up for some wishful thinking...

Looks like Rene Piscopo is in career limbo with his deal at Torino in doubt. Any Italian speakers on here want to try and do a better job than google translate:
http://www.mondoprimavera.com/2017/06/22/esclusiva-mp-torino-futuro-in-stallo-per-piscopo-le-ultime/

How rough is the google translate? Hard to see what the issue was.

All the more intriguing when the news was that he had already signed in february.

  • Jackson Irvine (Getty Images)
Jackson Irvine has doused speculation he could be about to sign for Brighton and Hove Albion, but has re-affirmed his ambition to play in the Premier League.
By
Dave Lewis

5 JUL 2017 - 2:57 PM  UPDATED 2 HOURS AGO

The Socceroos midfielder - a standout for his country in the 1-1 draw with mighty Chile at the Confederations Cup - revealed that he was in the dark over a reported $1.7 million bid from the Premier League newcomer to Burton Albion.

Reacting to the rumours of joining Australia teammate Mat Ryan on England's south coast, Irvine said: "I've obviously read about it but I don't believe there's anything tangible there.

"I haven't heard anything anyway and I think if I haven't heard about it then it's probably not going to be happening just yet.

Brighton make reported $1.7 million bid for Irvine
Jackson Irvine could be set to join Socceroos teammate Mat Ryan at Brighton & Hove Albion after the newly-promoted Premier League club reportedly made a £1 million (A$1.7 million) bid for the Burton Albion star.

"Obviously, it's a compliment (to be linked with an Premier League move), though I am not sure what the source was.

"In terms of anything real happening at the moment there's nothing on the cards in that department."

Currently holidaying in Spain, Irvine heads back into pre-season with Burton on Monday but remains open to the prospect of a northern summer move, should the right offer come along.

"It's a long window and you deal with anything as and when it crops up," he added.

"But I'll be going back to Burton ... we have made some good signings in recent weeks and we'll see what happens."

The 24 year old has two seasons left on his Brewers contract, with his 10 goals last season helping ensure Championship survival and earning him players' and supporters' player of the year accolades.

The Premier League, though, has a powerful elixir for Irvine, who grew up in Melbourne watching the competition from afar.

"It's kind of the pinnacle," he said. "Of course I'd love to play in any top league in Europe but the reason I came to England was to hopefully play in the Premier League one day."

Irvine is convinced that were the opportunity to arise he'd be ready to thrive at the top level.

"The higher the level you test yourself at seems to help propel you forward even more," he explained.

"Fingers crossed, if I ever got the chance to compete at that level I would be comfortable and it would not be as out of reach as it might seem."

Referring to his hyper-active display against Chile in a No. 6 role, Irvine added: "When you can compete against world class players it gives you a new level of confidence in yourself."

Irvine sees Australia as perfectly placed to carry new found belief into next month's vital World Cup trip to Japan, with an automatic qualifying spot for Russia 2018 on the line.

Action Jackson Irvine rues letting Chile off the hook
Jackson Irvine made his first start at the Confederations Cup one to remember as Australia grabbed “Chile by the throat” without quite shutting off the air supply in the stirring 1-1 draw in Moscow which saw them exit the competition.

"We showed some unbelievably promising signs over the course of the Confederations Cup," he added.

"You could see the progression of how we got better throughout the tournament.

"The more you play against top class opposition, the more you improve.

"We play without fear against anybody ... in the last 12 months the only teams we have lost to are Germany and Brazil.

"We are just going to grow and keep getting better."

It was so out of the blue.  I don't think anyone but Mark knew what he was doing tbh.

it was worth a shot.  he is a decent keeper and he had a great season.  hopefully he can get a job in europe while he is there.

Great thread Bundoora

Another one, c/o OS Aussies twitter account,  that might be a bit obscure but he has been recently selected by Gombau for the U/23 squad is German based Young Aussie Popovic. I cant read Deutsch so maybe wait for someone to translate what this article says about the rumours of his future. (maybe a transfer to Eintracht?)
http://regionalsport.de/milislav-popovic-australischer-serbe-aus-koeln-fuer-eintracht/

great pick up.

looks like it's a done deal.  He will be playing with Eintracht Brauschweig are in the B2 but he will be in their U23 side in the Regionlliga Nord which is a part of the German 4th tier.
