People need to calm the fuck down, 250k on FTA and STV really isn't that bad. No sport rates well on the 2nd channels. I would wager that the ratings in Sydney is as good as the Swans get on 7mate and way more than GWS and ditto for NRL in Melbourne. 

If you want perspective, NBL got 15k metro on Viceland.

I think the worry is the first few rounds are likely to be as good as it gets. I'm confused at what the number was (84k, 117k or 127k?) but presumably after the first few rounds it's going to go down. 150k+ was my hope ...

3 years later and our FTA audience has halved. Forget the NBL. THAT's our perspective.

Pretty close to their 120k prediction.

It will only go down if the product isn't good enough.  I didn't think it was to bad but going by the comments here it was terrible and SFC are the least entertaining team in the history of football, which surprising as the casuals I watched it with were remarking how high the quality was and how much more entertaining than the socceroos it was.

I can see bluebird's point, traditionally we've focused on metro figures, although I suspect the 84k is higher than the SBS2 average.

That 2013 season was Del Pieros debut hardly a comparison I would expect a spike if you have a player like that. 117k is a decent core and expected need more media focus to build viewership

That is the important point.

When the new broadcast deal was announced Patrick Delaney (Fox Sports) said that by the end of the deal they would like their ratings to average 100k and the FTA channel to rate 200k (if I remember correctly).  That is the lens we should be assessing performance through.

But I thought we'd get all the channel surfers cos SBS isn't mainstream enough?

The 120k prediction was season average, not individual games. It includes the summer months when interest in the A League is generally low

I just read the OzTam blurb and they say it is up to the subscriber how they report the figures, i.e. there is no official requirement.  For sports programs the change to reporting the combined 5cities + regional ratings as the norm began this year for NRL and the AFL and I think it is quite appropriate that we use this figure too.  STV figures are given nationwide so FTA being the same seems the right way to do it.

Well if FFA haven't got the message by now they never will.

The HAL has been stagnating and FFAare the managers responsible.
When HAL first appeared on SBS ratings were far higher.Since the FFA spat and sustainability metrics we have been going backwards on FTA tv.Showing the best game of the round on commercial tv should have been a godsend.Instead it shows how FFA have been killing the game in mainstream Australia,by sitting on their hands and doing nothing but looking after their own interests.
So what metrics dpFFA have to meet to keep their jobs?

Sage was talking about a game on commercial tv being a game changer.Well it is for all the wrong reasons.It wont be long before Ten are looking for a way to replace games with Simpsons repeats.

The Marconi's and Davos still won't acknowledge we were right and will continue to provide rimjobs for Lowy and da boiz. 

- A Metro figure of 84,000 with no other sport to compete against it is extremely laughable.

- Those peanuts have finally got the reality check they needed.

- People like Bluebird have been predicting this would happen since day dot.  

- Here is the reality, Mainstream Australians don't have any interest in watching the A-league.  

Even worse is that Sydney & Victory have the 1st & 3rd (arguably 2nd) highest supporter bases and ratings are lower than last year, what do you think will happen in R4 when Jets v Phoenix is Sat night game? 

SBS was not perfect but there were many on here & at FFA too quick to blame them for lack of growth in broadcast numbers, all the while ignoring the elephant in the room, HAL has become stale, same 10 teams constantly recycling the same old players playing each other multiple times just isn't that interesting anymore. 

People watch content, not channels. THAT's our reality.
