i'll wait till the end of the season but I thought 30% increase was realistic for a commercial station with cross promotion
did they make their own production with their own commentary team or just repeat fox's broadcast?

+xi'll wait till the end of the season but I thought 30% increase was realistic for a commercial station with cross promotion did they make their own production with their own commentary team or just repeat fox's broadcast? The whole lot, from pre-match to post-match was listed completely from Fox. I personally didn't mind that because I always found SBS and Nine's pre-match discussion way too forced and low budget compared to the more polished production of Fox.

Which ever way you look at it that was extremely disappointing...
Lets all hope it improves ......
One thing I will give JON and Frank in the early years they were always in the media telling people it was on....
JON in particular had an ability to get the broader public to show an interest in the Socceroo's they had never before experienced...
I don't necessarily think it will make a mega difference but Gallop needs to get on the front foot and start doing some door stop interviews ....
I"ll wait an extra couple of rounds to see if we can improve, before i make a judgement on the success or not of going FTA.

Not a good start. Lots of people were bleating about how we would crush the ratings on FTA. Looks like all along people knew where the A-league was, they just chose not to watch it. Can we now forget about FTA being our saviour and start improving the competition.

+x+xHasn't there been years of (heated, name calling)debate against bluebird that ratings would go way up when we're on the main fta channels? Yep. Last years tv ratings thread should be dug up. Bound to find some gold in there

Spot on. Yes not fanstastic numbers, but by no means terrible either. They will hopefully improve with time on OneHD, with some help from cross promotion on Ten. I'd love to know what the numbers looked like for the NBL last season on OneHD, but pretty sure they were no way near 100k, infact they were only around 20-30k on SBS Viceland on the weekend. Baby steps people, let's crawl before we can walk. Most people didn't even know the games were on, due to the lack of promotion to the start of this season. FFA once again doing chocking the game instead of promoting it for it to grow. The suits only look after themselves.

SBS managed to get 215k metro in their season opener with a Sydney and Melbourne team with the same level of build up. Not only that but there was no cross promotion during the project and Bathurst (ie- "nobody knew it was on"). If you add the Fox figure you get 337k, pushing about 380k if you also add what the regional figure may have looked like That was the reality of our sport before the FFA fucked it up, and stormed away from $5m and ad free HD coverage with a dedicated panel. Not to mention what Fox may have offered if they retained exclusive rights to Saturday games Crawl before walk? You are talking like this is the first season of FTA coverage The figures were absolutely fucking terrible. 6k bigger than SBS's worst ever season opener which was a Friday night game and didn't have the biggest teams, after the biggest dummy spit this game has seen. Less than last season, and at a real cost to the code One of the things said about the FFA is there is no accountability. They can fuck up time and time again but with 100% control of the game they can forgive themselves. Put together a pretty little speech like you have done (don't be surprised if you see excerpts of it during the next FFA press release) Where was the willingness to accept the figures and work towards growth when SBS had the game? Some people just wanted the game to be on channel 7, 9 or 10. That was the answer, now they have it Enjoy your watermark because we paid a lot of money for it

There's a flaw in Saturday nights ratings somewhere. https://www.fourfourtwo.com.au/news/ten-ads-consistent-with-all-sports-on-free-tv-474948The spokesperson said Ten were “very pleased” with viewer numbers on Saturday. “The viewing was up 75 per cent on the average audience SBS achieved during the 2016/17 season,” they said. “Our coverage was No.1 in its timeslot in ONE's target market of men 25 to 54. It was a great start to our coverage of the A-League.” Viewing up 75% on the average SBS audience during the season?? That would make SBS' average 29k.. Impossible. Ratings wrong? 10 talking shit? SBS fudged their numbers?

From the wookie last year these are the SBS ratings for Hal 12 & Hal 11 118,000 | 78,000 | 76,000 | 68,000 | 86,000 | 58,000 | 85,000 | 39,000 | 56,000 | 57,000 | 96,000 | 58,000 | 57,000 | 44,000 | 49,000 | NR | 54,000 | 51,000 | 70,000 | 69,000 | 48,000 | 39,000 | 65,000 | NR | NR | 73,000 | 54,000 | 46,000 | NR | 55,000 | NR | 42,000 | NR | 50,000 | 52,000 | 60,000 | NR | 56,000 | NR | 84,000 | 60,000 | 41,000 | 62,000 | 44,000 | NR | 41,000 | NR | NR | 34,000 | 72,000 | 26,000 | 33,000 | NR | 44,000 | 1,148,000 | 1,302,000 | Average for games recorded 1, 148, 001 / 18 = 63, 822. Hal 11 1, 302, 000 / 24 = 54, 250. 117,000 - 63, 822 = 53, 178 .... 53, 178 / 63, 822 = 83% increase on the average ...

For me, the fact it is on One, is less significant than the fact it is on Saturday and you are getting a better product. People are losing there shot after one game. Why don't we see how the figures are going after the two big city derbies shall we?

+x117,000 - 63, 822 = 53, 178 .... 53, 178 / 63, 822 = 83% increase on the average ... That's not correct because you are comparing a metro figure against a metro and regional figure If you use the apples v apples 84k metro figure you barely get a 30% increase

The second highest ever rating for an A League regular season game was the 188k Foxtel figure for the Sydney derby The derby figures wont be telling. Rounds 4 and 5 will be telling, as will when the summer sports start

Either way, the figure was disappointing... 10's response was unexpected , it read like 10 think they can improve it ... thats not that hard THB ... but they [10] seem to think they can improve it. The under lying cause of the low ratings is interesting to theorise about ... you could take the easy option and blame FFA for everything or you could look deeper into it...

I'm confused. The highest single figure for viewers is the number for Ch10. They only showed that one game. That figure was not matched by Fox for any game.
That same figure of 10s was twice the total that actually attended all of the games combined. The biggest dud figure there is the number attending the MV in person. Did the missing 10k people stay home and watch it on 10?
I'd be more concerned about the number walking through the gate than the number watching it on 10.
Wanderers number is lousy.
