+x+x+x+x+xDoesn't mention it in the email but it's a loan deal Adelaide United is delighted to officially announce the signing of experienced Australian-born, Turkish defender Ersan Gülüm on a season-long loan from Chinese side Hebei China Fortune. Will update the post when there's a proper announcement on the club website Adelaide's club website is up there with being as annoying as Roar's tbh. Adelaide still haven't announced Blackwood on their site - but the A-League site did. IMO that's because they were scared about the backlash because that signing wasn't particularly exciting. Even from the Gulum article: This is the first signing we have completed and is just the beginning of what we are aiming to do. But go back a week and on the A-League site: http://www.a-league.com.au/article/transfer-news-adelaide-sign-ex-sydney-fc-striker/co1xhwv0x5on113u3xvg6s8rp It's not a good excuse but that's because he wasn't signed by Kurz. The club's communication has been pathetic. It just seems odd that they would hide from their signing tbh. A week ago they more than likely would have known Gulum was signing or close to it. All they had to do was announce Blackwood and mention "we have some exciting news coming in the next few weeks" and it should have been enough. IMO it's not the visa players that should be Adelaide's main worry - it is the Australian players. Because I see a lot moving out of the club, but not a whole lot coming in yet!

+x "Australian football has given me so much and I'm here to give back to it by working very hard every day in training." If he wanted to give back! he should have f*cking played for Australia then. Strangely the players can't pick themselves. Pim & Holger were the men that could.

This is an incredibly smart signing. Good to see clubs using their research to find Australian born players overseas. There are ways around the player and cap restrictions, you just have to put in the work to find them. Always wished we'd capped him back then too, he was always in my football manager squads.

Can't believe he is 30, feels like yesterday when the "tug of war" articles were doing the rounds. Nonetheless good signing for Adelaide.

+x+xDecent signing I suppose for our defense but I am more interested in who we bring in to get some goals. We only scored 25 last season, quite pathetic. You also leaked some terrible terrible goals so don't forget that!
Very shrewd piece of business this is by the Reds. May go a small step toward restoring the fans faith in the club. No doubt, but if you look at most of the clubs last season their defense was just as bad but they managed to score plenty of goals. Defense is only one equation of the whole package, can't have one without the other.

A fantastic signing and not counted as a foreigner is very good business from Adelaide. Turkish international, was in the frame for socceroos. Can't wait to see how he goes.
I wonder how many other professional footballers we don't even know who have Dual nationally with Aus.

+x+x+xGood player but I have an issue with returning players who have committed their loyalties to another country. As most Australians are a soft touch he will probably become a fan favourite, future captain and end up in a juicy coaching or media role. Great signing but should be booed by every opposing A League Socceroo fan i reckon. He was first capped by Turkey in September 2013 when he was 26, represented Australia at youth level and was in the preliminary Asian Cup squad for us. We had plenty of time to cap him if we wanted to but never did so you can't blame him for wanting to play international football. Funnily enough, he became unavailable for us to pick in September 2013, and Ange was appointed in October, Ange certainly would have given him a shot I feel but the timing was just a little off. The great legacy of Pim and Holger.

Anyway think he will be as impactful as papa was for the roar. So excellent signing.

+xJust came out in a member email. Finally some decent news! Gülüm will join the Reds for the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League season and boasts an impressive pedigree after spending the majority of his career with Turkish Süper Lig giants Beşiktaş. The 30-year-old accumulated 126 appearances with the Black Eagles in all competitions from 2010 to 2016, scoring three goals in the process. Born in Melbourne to Turkish parents, Gülüm elected to represent Turkey on the international stage and has received seven caps since making his debut in 2013. However, as a result of his duel citizenship, Gülüm is considered an Australian and will not count as a foreign player. Gülüm transferred to Turkish outfit Manisaspor from Hume City in 2005, before plying his trade in the second division briefly with Elazığspor and then Adanaspor for two seasons. After signing for the Club, Gülüm spoke of his elation in coming back to Australia to play his football, whilst also mentioning his excitement in playing under Head Coach, Marco Kurz. "I am very happy to have signed for Adelaide United and cannot wait to get started," Gülüm said. "I've heard great things about the city and I'm really looking forward to working in a professional environment under a strong, European manager, like Marco. "I'm joining Adelaide with the ambition of being successful and I have every intention of making sure that happens. "Australian football has given me so much and I'm here to give back to it by working very hard every day in training." Kurz praised the signing of Gülüm, citing the leadership qualities he will bring to the team. “Gülüm is an experienced player who’s established himself in Turkey, where he’s captained the club and is clearly a leader,” Kurz said. “I knew of him from his time in Europe with Beşiktaş, and I have no doubt he will be an excellent signing for the Club. “I spoke with a teammate of Ersan’s during his time at Besiktas, a German player, who praised him highly. "This is the first signing we have completed and is just the beginning of what we are aiming to do. "I am sure we will have more good news in the coming days." United General Manager of Football, Ante Kovacevic, said Gülüm will provide experience to the Reds in the heart of the defence.“Enticing a player of this calibre back to the A-League is not a simple process. There are plenty of hurdles to get over, but thankfully we have finalised the deal," he said. “He’s going to bring a lot of experience from his time in a top European league, that will benefit any A-League team.” “He’s played international football with Turkey and he’s played at one of their biggest clubs in the league in Beşiktaş. “It takes a special character to carve a professional career as Ersan did, heading overseas direct from state league football and making it. “We are lucky to have him at Adelaide United and, considering he was born in Australia, it is a great to have the opportunity to add further overseas experience to our squad.” Kovacevic further added his presence and knowledge of the game will give the youngsters in the squad the opportunity to learn and improve. “Obviously we’ve got a core group of experienced players and Ersan will complement that leadership group.” “Our young boys can look up to, can work with, and learn from these type of players. "Before Ersan can join our boys, he will head back to Turkey and begin training under Marco next week." http://www.adelaideunited.com.au/article/ersan-gueluem-joins-reds-for-201718/v613nv699ypo1ebg1ztq1buyl It's good that Adelaide plan to play him in his best position and not as a direct replacement for Elrich at LB.
