Why do these teams forfeit? Distance between clubs?

Some of the forfeits are distance based, but a lot of them are because clubs that far down the pyramid in Victoria just don't have the players available in February. As entry is compulsory down to State League 5, a lot of clubs at that level are pretty social, they haven't even started pre season training yet and quite a few players are still committed to Summer sports. The actual start of the season is still over a month away.

+x+xAlthough i love to see increases in participation numbers. I would also love to see a decrease in walk overs. Does anyone have the stats on the number of walk overs season on season. Walk overs by season: 2014, 41 2015, 17 2016, 25 2017, 22 Plenty Valley Lions after going on a Cup run with Cupsets in 2014, have forfeited every year since including this year. 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018. Thanks for that mate. IMO this is how we solve this. Cup needs to start later. This shouldn't be an issue as league fixtures can be organised around the cups. Much like Queensland, have regional rounds to encourage greater participation and less forfeits. It really isn't that hard. I don't see why teams from Mildura need to travel to Melbourne Round 1 or even during the prelim rounds for God sake.

A later start would definitely help, but most of the regional clubs I talk with don't want regional qualifying (at least in NSW and Vic). They don't want to be playing Cup games against teams that they are likely to play against another 2 or 3 times during the year. They enter the Cup knowing it will involve travelling, they know they won't make the round of 32, so what they want out of the Cup is the chance to judge their own quality against teams from the city. I'll have to look this up, but I have a hunch that it's generally city teams being too lazy to travel that leads to most of the forfeits in City vs Country clashes.

It needs to be punished and or helped. If you make a trip the FFV gives the manager 100 bucks or so, just to start the process and to eatablish a culture of early round travel. Otherwise region prelims may be the only other option to encourage more prestigious rounds. I don't see any other way around it.

Also Myrtleford, Wangaratta and Cobram also from the Albury League. We also have 5 clubs from Football Wagga (ok one of those is Leeton), even with the Wagga City Wanderers being the rough equivalent of the Rhinos and Murray. You probably have the best info of anyone here, why don't Hanwood enter, if they want to leave the Griffith comp so much, at least the FFA Cup would provide some opportunities until the Wagga clubs see their senses and let them in there.

I don't think Hanwood want to go by themselves. They'd want someone like Yoogali to go with them. And while the rest of the GDFA Clubs are in bed with the Rhinos, ain't going to happen. Plus, for some reason, the Griffith clubs don't mind entering the State cup (Bill Culinan Trophy, I think is what its exactly called), but not the proper STATE CUP (Waratah Cup) that counts towards the FFA Cup. Beats me as to why, and what exactly the point of the two different competitions are nowadays. The players that really do want to test themselves and be the best in Griffith are either in the Rhinos, or Hanwood. And by 'the best' being at Hanwood, its more that they see themselves as the best, not that they actually are. They still lost the Grand Final and only topped the table by 3 points. I always thought they would enter the Waratah Cup over the Bill Cullinan Cup once the FFA Cup began, but alas, they haven't. But, I'm actually glad to hear that I stand corrected re: Wagga and Albury clubs not entering. Well, I thought Wagga did, but I wasn't sure about Albury.

The Albury clubs (those North of the border and under FNSW jurisdiction) still haven't entered, I guess they think Sydney is just to far away. Maybe Leeton entering the FFA Cup this year might be enough to tempt the Griffith guys in next year. I've noticed the Griffith clubs still liking the Bill Cullinan Cup, maybe they prefer this because they are a chance of winning it (well were before the Rhinos took most of the best players). The chance of getting a bigger club down to Griffith again should be attractive though. Wagga City have been knocked out by Marconi and Wollongong Wolves in the last few years, both away, but to draw one of those former NSL clubs at home would be the biggest thing in town (football wise) in ages.

FNSW draw is 12:30pm today. I think they are releasing the full draw so NPL clubs can work out who they potentially may face in the later rounds.

From my understanding it was only going to be round 2 & 3 today (not like previous years). I think they may have seen the success of the other states round by round draws at attracting Facebook viewer numbers. The Draw allocation numbers only go up to NPL 3 clubs
