+xSyrians really clutching at straws. #FIFA should propose an investigation into the replacement of referee Rafsan Irmatov and his departure at a difficult time of such an important match. !!!! The judgment is not fair enough We ask for an examination of the grassland which was not suitable for the Syrian team and doubts that the Australian players are wearing shoes clinging to the long grass, so we saw Syrian players falling during the game, while the players of Australia steadfast. If that proves to be the case, the result of the match must be canceled and Australia is legally lost under the international law of FIFA 3/0 and thus becomes a qualification for the Syrian national football team. lol. you'd think they wouldn't be such soft pricks. living in a war zone and all.

+x+xWe absolutely must have Jedinak back especially since Milligan will be out from suspension in the first leg which is away too. Aha I was wondering about those cards. So Milligan is out. Jedinak would be good to see back with his leadership. Millsy was a bit rough tonight. +x+x76% possession, 25 shots, 2 goals 👀 this is such a problem and I see no reason to believe finishing is going to improve +1 The Socceroos awful finishing is what has caused them to be in this whole playoff mess to begin with. Against Thailand in Melbourne, to have 45 scoring opportunities with only 2 going in, is absolutely pathetic. With international level football, for the most part, you get very few chances, and they have to be put away.

+x+xAny word on Smith's injury? From the looks of it he may have either strained or had a slightly higher grade tear of a hip flexor. Those can be a bitch. At best would be underdone for the next qualifiers. That sort of strain is a sign you're already underdone to be honest. If he does play there's no way in hell they take him on the away leg. Hopefully he is injured as long as ange as in charge. Agreed, Smith is woeful and nowhere near international standard, why does Ange pick this muppet?

I think I saw we've scored over 40 goals in all 20 qualifiers. We acted as heroes against shit teams and failed to bite against the big boys.

Biggest controversy is that Australias group is the only qualifying group I have seen so far where the kickoffs for the last game all werent at the same time. Even the other Asian group did.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Got home at last from the game not long ago... Regardless of the fact it was a bullshit penalty that even took the return leg to extra time, it's a concern that it's all Timmy pulling us out of the shit yet again. Once he hangs up the boots, what are we left with? I walked away tonight with the same bittersweet feeling I had after the Thailand game. We carved through their defence at the back so many times, yet for all the chances created we had just 2 goals to show for it? At this rate it'll be a small miracle if we qualify for the WC. Tonight may well have delayed the inevitable...
There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed

Surely we are playing the USA next. Mentally prepared for not qualifying. But so excited for these games, Will be massive. Going to have to travel east for it I think.

Im hoping Tomi J moves to Germany next window (B1 oe B2) I got back from Switzerland last weekend from being there 2 weeks and can understand why he would like it. I thought his city Lucernce was ok and a place you could spend at least 1 night. It must be a difference living there compared to Australia, travel wise. Not having to go to Perth, NZ and Asia as everything is not that far in a very small country with is quite pretty.
I watched a Young Boys game on the tv and the quality wasnt that great. Only one match but it was no where near Bundesliga.
But as I said I could see him being very comfortable there.

If Australia plays Gersbach and Risdon as wing backs, and ange doesn't do any weird omissions such as mooy, I think we should be okay.

Going over the game in my mind. There were definitely scary moments for us but that'll happen every game at least a few times. Some of our movement was great while we had really flat patches. Ange is going to maintain his back 3.
One thing learnt today is Milligan is much better as a RCB.

First and foremost, a RB or LB has the role to defend. If they can assist in attack then that's great.
I'd like to see this for the first leg
Risdon Degenek Sainsbury Jurman Gersbach Jedinak Mooy Kruse Juric Troisi

for an away leg I would like to prioritize players that can defend, are mobile and are getting game time. I would also like to go with a back four
-----------------------ryan---------------------------- -wright----sainsbury----jurman---gesbach--- ------------------irvine--luongo-------------------- ----------------------mooy--------------------------- --------leckie--------juric----------kruse----------

One of the best games I've seen us play and I was there live was the friendly in Germany. While only a friendly we had excellent phases as a unit.
We had
Franjic DeVere Wilkinson Davidson Milligan Jedinak McKay Burns Troisi Leckie
That was arguably our reserve side that night but the formation worked brilliantly and everyone did well. Crazy that even Mooy and Rogic were the in the Asian Cup squad. Both injured I believe?
Anyway something like
Risdon Sainsbury Jurman Gersbach Mooy Jedinak Luongo Leckie Cahill Troisi
It'd be interesting to see.

Dominate possession and dominate bpo. Goals and a win would be a bonus. The pressure will be on them to score at home so if they don't their frustration will gift you opportunities I worry about jedinaks age and game time though. But the principles are sound

+xAny chance we can teach our players 15 years of off-the-ball movement in one month? Seen Leckie make the overlapping run 20-30 times last night.. but no one in the midfield had the confidence to actually switch the play.
