+x+xNo one is expecting pro rel to happen immediately.Gotta put in that proven Div 2 pathway before we can even consider it. Happy to be proven wrong but a 2nd Div with nowhere to go will likely begin with a small bang then start withering on the vine. As soon as that happens, Cold feet brigade will postpone P&R and the Death Spiral guaranteed You could be right, but pro/rel to the NPL below it will help keep clubs motivated and people interested. I think the important thing with the implementation of a 2nd Div is to state the ambition to introduce pro/rel to the A-League and a plan/timeline for it to happen. It doesn't have to be in place from day 1, as long as there is a commitment.

Happy to be proven wrong but a 2nd Div with nowhere to go will likely begin with a small bang then start withering on the vine. As soon as that happens, Cold feet brigade will postpone P&R and the Death Spiral guaranteed I think a 2nd division is important development wise (condensing talent pool etc) so I think that it's important to have one regardless of the rest of the arguments. Politically it is much easier to achieve as well (being realistic as opposed to what ideally I would want). I agree though, that without pro/rel it will just be another NPL like league of 1k crowds and little exposure and sponsorship. At the very least you would want there t be a time frame. Ie. 4 years (or whatever lines up with tv deal) as a stand alone league for teams to sort themselves out and let the 2nd division have a few years to sort out any logistical teething issues etc. Even that is quicker than it WILL happen but there needs to be plans put in place. I know people like the select few think you can just say "now" and pro/rel will happen but real life and business and contracts etc etc are not so easy in the big boy world.

But the three-time National Soccer League champion put that ambition on the backburner after the ex-Port Adelaide chief executive and SANFL legend was part of a taskforce headed by lawyer David Colovic to discover joining Adelaide United in soccer’s top tier was not viable, confirmed former football committee chairman and current board member Alf Ianniello. However, Ianniello says the club is now confident of raising the $3.5 million revenue needed per season to be part of a professional national second tier league after the club had performed an in-depth logistic study. If 2nd Tier clubs can reach and sustain that level of revenue then with a distribution from the FFA of $3.5m pa they wouldn't be far off being at the average A-League club expenditure of $7.5m and promotion to it would seem viable in the near future especially if the FFA frees up the league.

You want promotion win the ffa cup that will prove your worth and give a morale case. If you can't do that you don't deserve to be in the top league. It's that simple

You would think that would be the case and the eventual aim of this. Adelaide City have been the first team to put their hand up. We have a team from Western Oz put their name in the hat. From these two sides it is clear that teams such as South Melbourne, Heidelberg, Sydney United, Sydney Olympic could easily foot the bill.

You are such a twitt. The FFA give you an opportunity to play against theirA league team publicly humiliate them and win a media covering FFA cup, that will then give you credibility to force inclusion in the top league. And you are backing the AAFC what a useless bunch of NSL dinosaurs. ffs Nfi

IMO if the league can't sustain an extra 4-6 teams, I just don't see how we can sustain a 2nd division & even begin to think of p&r.
Roy gets it.
