North Korea win 3-0.

The girls got outclassed by a really strong team, they still get another chance in the 3rd place playoff match against either Japan or China.

Hoped to catch it but was flat out at work until late. Honestly I'm glad they kept in under 0-5 after the Japan match.

Japan up 1-0 over China at 51 minutes, hopefully the girls get up over China in the repechage and they can regroup for the World Cup.

Westfield Young Matildas miss out on France 2018

The Westfield Young Matildas will not feature at next year’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in France after they suffered a 3-0 defeat to China PR in the play-off for third-place at the 2017 AFC U19 Women’s Championship on Saturday.

A 20th minute goal to defender He Luyao combined with second half strikes to Xie Qiwen and Jin Kun helped hosts China claim the third and final AFC place for France next year at the expense of Gary van Egmond’s girls.

The Westfield Young Matildas will return to Australia on Monday after their campaign came to a close.

During their China excursion, the Westfield Young Matildas secured Group Stage wins over Korea Republic and Vietnam. They then lost consecutive matches against Japan and DPR Korea (Semi Final) –  the two teams who will compete in the competition’s Final – as well as China.

Following Saturday’s match van Egmond congratulated China on their win, and said that Australia must continue to work hard in the field of youth development.

“I am extremely proud of the girls’ effort throughout the tournament, but today was too big a step, and I’d like to congratulate China on their win,” said van Egmond.

“We have to work with our development pathway to produce better technical players and players with better understanding.

"In the first half we struggled to string two passes together, and when you play the game we want to play – which is based on keeping the ball – this becomes a big issue,” he said.

Thunderstorms predicted down in Geelong this arvo.

Haters of football, women's football and/or Geelong football licking their lips at that news, no doubt.

I'll be coming down after work regardless.

I'm not saying the draw was rigged or anything but bloody hell.

All this WC winning talk could be moot if they can't get out of the group.

Group A: Jordan (Current FIFA world ranking: 50), China PR (13), Thailand (29), Philippines (70)

Group B: Japan (8), Australia (6), Korea Republic (15), Vietnam (31)

Group A rankings totaled - 162
Group B rankings totaled - 60

Good thing 5 out of the 8 in the comp go to the World Cup. Even if we finish in 3rd there's a playoff for the last spot.

The Asian Cup absolutely does need expansion, though.

Didn't realise that.  That's pretty good news.  Thought it was like that youth tournament just gone where only the finalists progressed.

Good stuff.

Isn't Chidiac already capped?

Yeah, no fair enough. I put Chidac up there and realised after what you meant.  She's quality BTW.

The Ibini lass?  Is she a relation to Princess?

Yes, it is princess ibini, she's been capped before. (Not a sibling.)
I'd take siemsen ahead of her though as she has a higher work rate.

I'd go with..

Williams
Carpenter/Polkinghorne/Kennedy/Catley
Gorry/VanEgmond/Kellond-Knight
Foord/Kerr/Devanna

+

Arnold
Whyman
Alleway
Checker
Yeoman-Dale

Another injury for the matildas...
Foord needs surgery which will take her out of the algarve Cup in march and most likely the Asian Cup in April.

Really full on story, and very well articulated by Kyah (although I assume Player's Voice has a ghostwriter or at least an editor collating it all).
