* That Korea  had less shots, coupled with low possession, and most likely territory,  with so many of Aussie superior shot count hitting the post and creating near misses, it showed Australia's deficiency in shooting from first time shots with either foot, or side of the body, or head. This needs to improve immeasurably.

Australians in the A-league don't know how to shoot first time or they are told not to. It happens so many times in the A-league it does my head in.
A perfectly laid off pass and for some reason or other the player just about to shoot stops the ball, makes room (wasting precious seconds you don't have) and then decides to shoot on goal. You just don't have time and it gives the defender and the goalkeeper  time to get back and defend a shot. It is also difficult to generate power from a standing start and you lose that element of surprise from shooting first time. If a ball is put on a plate begging to be hit, just hit it.

Blackwood needs to learn to drop deep to get the ball, hold it up, receive ball to feet, see players like Riera and Bobo. If he doesn't do this then our game becomes simply getting it wide, hitting in crosses and hoping.

Blackwood could do it better.

So could Bobo and Riera.

I think this is a really good point. Not just in regard to popovic but in general. I'm confident Milicic is going to be a very good manager in the long term but he also needs to release the shackles on these players. At U23 level it is time to be going out to win all matches. Do what you need to do and what you believe in Ante to get the results

One issue Ange claims is a problem with FFA underage teams, is that many coaches are given these jobs to develop their talents.

Milicic is still an inexperienced head coach.

Looked like the typical performance at youth level. On play alone we should've made it out of the group, played better than what I was seeing at other tournaments over the years. As always our plays lack the mental toughness and drive at this level. Appears everyone would rather play safe when things get a little but uncomfortable, instead of going out and grabbing it. Blackwood's time is almost up imo as a forward, never impressed me.Even his goal (the last one) against Syria came off the shin lol

A lot of ex players don't have to earn their coaching jobs in Australia. Saying that, look at England.

We really did out play Korea for large parts of that 2nd half (sadly after we were already just about screwed) and had more than enough chances to actually win the game even with the shitty defending. If they came out like that from the start it could have been different.

Also, how the fuck did Izzo not come out and get that high ball for the first goal? thats nothing to do with 3 at the back or whatever. its just shit keeping and put us under pressure immediately. Just walk out 7 yards and catch the ball. it went almost vertical. Shit like that makes a difference.

More like if Cowburn has s our best right back, we are doomed. He was at fault for 2 of the 3 goals.
Keanu Baccus did a better job despite being a defensive midfielder.

Milicic should have picked some of the u19s.

Plus he didn’t really have a cohesive defence. That is on him.

Lol, Izzo is the best keeper in the HAL.

Lol, Izzo is barely HAL level. Not in the top 6 keepers, maybe just ahead of/on par with Ben Kennedy, Moss, Reddy and Italiano. Definitely behind (in no order) Redmayne, Thomas, Vedran, Young/Theo, Galekovic.

If he plays in goals for the Olympics qualifying campaign we're doomed. (same goes for Blackwood). It's not personal, its just persisting with players that repeatedly fail while not giving others an opportunity is madness. And if these guys really are the best we have at this age group we don't deserve to qualify.

Amazing the difference in play once our boys were just told to have a crack compared to when they simply played sideways rubbish. Maybe it coincided with DPK tiring but we actually could have easily won a game in which we were 3-0 down.

Izzo has improved out of sight over the last two seasons and this season has been immense for us (Adelaide). Young and Thomas are up there with Izzo imo although Young doesn't protect his near post often enough. Moss is a good keeper as well. Vedran is far too inconsistent. He looks great one week and then looks horrid the next. Redmayne has improved out of sight this season as well but hsn't really been tested much. Theo is past it and has been very mediocre over the last couple of seasons as well. Age has caught up with Galecovic as well which is why we replaced him with Izzo. Galecovic is still a solid keeper though.

Blackwood can still come good. He needs to be better but he has scored in 3 of his last four HAL games.

I agree with your last point.

Who's better than Izzo?

The back-up Margush controls the box better and he's younger. He showed how good he is by keeping Sydney scoreless with a youngster team in front of him.

I rate Margush but Izzo is better at the moment although Margush probably has more potential. Margush's distribution wasn't at his best against Sydney and was lucky he didn't cost us a couple of goals.

According to wiki he was the youngest ever captain of Pahang and the first half-Malaysian to be a captain in the MSL. He has 14 caps for the senior Malaysian  national team as well.

Does anyone think he could return to the HAL?

Shocked by that result, the Uzbeks must have a strong generation coming through.

There number 17 called Dostonbek Khamdamov is 21 and has played 89 first team games and has scored around 34 goals in the process, has one of the best u21 players in Asia right now, he's a gun.
