+x+xI have no problem with Gulum's red if the same happened to the red's we'd be baying for a red card. But every player just wants consistency from the bloke in the middle. Shaun Evans stats when being an official at Red's games show incredible bias. It's incredibly frustrating for the players when they get pulled up for a high boot when the other team doesn't get punished for exactly the same crime, (only for a higher boot). I mean what is it with these guys? Being consistent is NOT that difficult Id love to see the stats when Evans is the official with Reds games http://ultimatealeague.com/referee_detail.php?referee_id=35

+x+x+xAs an AU fan I had no probs with the red even though it was soft and Buhagiar centainly milked it. Swings and roundabouts. Gulum panicked and was at fault with a clumsy sly challenge and hammed it up as much as Buhagiar as he walked off too. A few minutes later though, Garruccio was tugged off the ball in the box as he was through to shoot. This was the big howler in the game that i saw. I am a Reds fan brought up in Europe and myself find it very different to watch the refs here who seem to dish out cards red and yellow where in Europe the refs would say - as quoted by the Adelaide coach - just get up.. I know we are in Australia and have to abide by the ref system here, but in Europe it would not have been a red - believe me I have seen enough games to confirm this. In my opinion it spoils the game here and I am sure Gulum will get used to the ref system here before too long. Having said this the ref last night was inconsistant in any many ways. I Just think opinions like this are laughable if anything Australian referees are far more lenient with cards than anywhere else in the world May I ask what country you have watched football in apart from Australia - I mean attended football games? Certainly not championship league or lower leagues England, Scotland, second tier Germany or first tier Holland (which equates to around A League level) or you would not come out with a comment like this. Both coach and player comes from this region of the world!

First off all in spite of the man advantage I felt very lucky to get away with a point. Your team were magnificent. As for the penalty - if it was only the arm across it would be soft. However there was also a clip of the legs which would have made it almost impossible to stay up.

+x+x+xBullshit red card. Wasn't a foul. Hoole's free kick shouldn't have been given either as he handballed before the foul. Exactly. VAR last night was happy to change correctly made decisions at will. But tonight the VAR stays silent for a handball leading to a goal and a dive with no contact It's not the VAR it's the tools watching bits of it between scoffing burgers if they never saw Hoole's handball and the initial dragback of Isais they're not fucken watching! Then a free for a raised boot, while earlier the dickhead ref saw nothing wrong even though the CCM bloke raised his foot over the attackers head. If I was in a yellow shirt I would have done a slow-motion dive in the box and got the penalty the ref was itching to give; - one of the most pitiful refereeing displays I've seen since WSW's win in the ACL! Surely even the most ardent referee/var critics realise how ridiculous it would be if var had to go back 30 secs - 1 min for every foul that happened in and around the box

Discussed the red today wirh a number of grassroots officials. To those in the discussion, it was a clear Denial of Goal Scoring Scoring Opportunity (DOGSO) with Gulum being the last made not making an attempt on the ball only on the player.

@Nachoman
The red card seems to be the main refereeing issue although there were a couple of others (high foot not an offence anymore lol??).
But for me the red was dead-set right and the only argument against from home fans seems to be the contact was soft and the player should have stayed on his feet. It’s almost like Adelaide fans haven’t watched Isaias play who regularly falls off his feet.
The referee/linesman’s perspective is the most interesting one - the attacker is through on goal and the defender doesn’t make an attempt to play the ball, instead the defender puts his elbow in the back of the attacker to knock him off balance (its there on the tv replays). Granted the contact is soft but it is deliberate and the defender knows exactly what he is doing and why he is doing it - he’s doing it in the hope of spoiling the goal scoring opportunity by putting the attacker off balance
So when the Refereees see that it is a red.
The VAR looks at it and sees no obvious error confirming the defender doesn’t play at the ball and instead plays at the man.
For me, although it’s light contact, It’s the very definition of a professional foul - no attempt at the ball and instead playing the man.
Thankfully for the Reds it finished 2-2 but any criticism should sit with a dumb ass defender who left his team mates hanging in a game I’m pretty sure they would have won with eleven men. Blaming the ref is a convenient distraction but don’t be surprised when the same defender does it again in the future because he doesn’t think he’s at fault here.

great atmosphere and very passionate crowd ... AFL and all its incarnations will never match shit surface...
As for the game , was sitting in the western stand when the red card incident happened... Thought , on first glance thats a red.... on replays , its doubtful . No shirt pull , no tangle of legs.. its very very soft... I wonder if VAR had a look at it

Great comeback Adelaide. Well done.
Clear red card on Gulum. And stupid too. Buhagiar would’ve fucked the finish at the pace he was going for sure.
Should get an extra week too for that carry on to the refs.

Another disappointing result for Okon, will the blame once again be deflected towards the players or just maybe they have a rubbish manager. Getting outplayed when they have 10 men, very poor.

I thought the stadium was very quite for large periods of the game but after the Elsey goal and Cavusevic coming on the atmosphere was brilliant to the end of the game.
Marco Kurz is going to cop a fine for saying a draw was a good result for 10 vs 12.

+x+x+xSmall crowd but a cracking atmosphere. New fella almost made himself a hero too Helps with effect mics close up. Funnily enough, being at the ground the mic placement didn't affect my opinion. You try way too hard lately Hurts his head that people are enjoying the league when he doesn't anymore.

+xI suppose it was an even match really. AU had ten men for 70 odd minutes and CCM played with Blake Powell up front for about the same amount of time. More games like this please.
