There's no visible local interest although it is a great city and Fremantle Aussie Rules Club has the Italian flag colours as its emblem, so plenty of kulcha there to draw on. Believe me it's not a serious bid.

However, this bid document is not about the past National Soccer League (NSL) glories or number of titles. Outlined throughout the 100-page document is a 14-year case study of a committed football community building every element of a professional club to not only compete in the top flight, but contribute to the sustainability of Football for girls, boys, women, men and fans in Australia for generations to come. We have you, the supporters, players and community to thank. It’s no secret that 14 years ago SMFC was disappointed not to be a part of the inaugural A-League. The decisions relating to the formation of the A-League are well documented. Simply being a successful part of the old world (NSL) would no longer guarantee the club a seat at the table. It was watershed moment for the club. Despite the disappointment, our response was to “get to work” on creating the “new” SMFC. Many people have provided support to keep the club moving forward. We sincerely thank you for your support. As your President, it is an absolute privilege to serve this club. The next steps will be announced towards the end of June. Yours sincerely,

Canberra Bid get's a bit of a boost
End of Canberra Stadium may be nearA new $350m roofed stadium in Canberra could become a reality sooner than expected, to replace the aging GIO Stadium. A private consortium is supporting a bid for the ACT government to fast-track plans for a new Stadium with Canberra (GIO) Stadium deteriorating into a poor spectator experience comparted to other similar major venues. Crowds are down for the two winter tenants with the ACT Brumbies and Canberra Raiders attracting less fans, with the existing stadium having poor facilities leaving fans out in the cold. The Brumbies recently drew their second-worst crowd in club history, with just 5283 fans turning up to watch their loss against the Melbourne Rebels. The franchise is in danger of recording their worst crowd figures in 20 years.
Canberra Stadium is owned by the Australian Sports Commission and the ACT government pays $350,000 per year to rent the facility.
The AIS is looking to downsize its footprint in the nation’s capital and sell major assets, including the stadium and AIS Arena.
The government is keen to buy Canberra Stadium and the AIS Arena, while the chance to buy one of the two pools at the AIS could also be an option. It is hoped a new centrally-located 20,000-25,000 rectangular stadium will be built as part of a wider redevelopment of the Civic precinct, also incorporating a convention centre and hotel. The new stadium would cater for the Brumbies, Raiders and a potential new A-League team in the future

Everyone's plucky underdog Fremantle City teaming up with Juventus apparently The bid is seen as an outside chance, with FFA preferring expansion sides in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, but it has not deterred City president Maurice Oteri. “I don’t know how the bid is going to go. We are all in the same boat,” Oteri said. “Who knows what is going to happen but I didn’t go in there to make up the numbers. “I have better things to do with my time than make up the numbers.”
Oteri says he has $10 million worth of pledges from local backers and will next month hold talks with Italian giants Juventus about investment and furthering their soccer partnership. City already have links with the Italian champions through their academy and if they are short-listed, will discuss financial investment. “The money is there,” Oteri said. “There is enough people there to say I will invest money if I know what my return on capital and investment is going to be.”

I'd like to see the whole process become more public, in fact involve the public directly in the decision making.
Ch10 is pretty big in to this reality TV stuff that fascinates the Millennials and smashes the ratings into new mathematical concepts. There's enough money in this to fund a couple of Leagues at least, if we can get the public to vote for their favourites at a buck a minute on some 1900 number.
It's easy to picture.
David Gallup and Shane Bourne co-host handling all the pre-interviews and doing the side stage stuff. The bidders can all be stuffed into a "house" where exotic SBS style food dishes are served and their reactions to same commented upon by George Calombaris. Those that won't try any particular exotic dish can be given a playful smack behind the ear. They can showcase their bid and the great personality that they will bring to the League, plus get some spice going into all the new rivalries we have to have..... for some reason.
Each week maybe 3 of the bids will have to present before the jury who will either give a tick or a cross as their vote as to whether a bid should go to the next round. This of course can be overruled by the public phoning in and voting.
I'd choose the judging panel very carefully, looking for broad appeal, community standards and expectations, with a nod to correct gender/race/cultural balance.
I'm thinking Bonita Mersiades, Mr T and Pauline Hansen.
All solved.

Fairly Obvious Question : Why didn't they just buy Adelaide United ? New SA soccer club armed with $100 millionMAY 26, 2018AN English-based consortium armed with a $100 million budget is behind SA’s hopes to have a second club in the A-League and W-League. However, like Adelaide United’s new owners the investors have chosen to remain anonymous — at least at this stage of the bid. Chairman of the new SA club bid Andy Haralampopoulos said the consortium had submitted its expression of interest by Football Federation Australia’s Thursday deadline last week. Haralampopoulos concluded the agreement last week in Europe after four years of negotiations with the consortium. West Adelaide — SA’s first national league champion in any football code in 1978 — will be the partner club to the new consortium, Haralampopoulos said. According to Haralampopoulos the consortium is similar to the City Football Group which owns Manchester City, New York City, Melbourne City and shares of Yokohama F Marinos, Torque in Uruguay and Girona in Spain. “They already have clubs in Europe and one in Africa and the one in Australia that would be a starter club,’’ Haralampopoulos said from Athens, Greece. “The operation would be very simple and the only pathway the new club would have is through West Adelaide.” The consortium also manages players and first-class coaches globally with the proposed club name and colours at the mercy of its new fans. The new club would base its headquarters — head office and training facilities — at West Adelaide’s new home at Kilburn after the former Labor state government handed the club $4.5 million in funding towards the project. The sports complex, which is currently under construction, is expected to be ready by the end of the year with Kilburn also destined to house a 5000-capacity stadium and two synthetic pitches. “We have entered commercial agreements with the consortium for the use of the facilities,’’ Haralampopoulos said. “The player pathways for men and women will be through our NPL clubs.” Haralampopoulos said the budget for the proposed new club is modelled on what top-end clubs are spending in the A-League and W-League at the moment — in excess of $10 million a season.

GCU playing the Gender Card Gold Coast United Chairman Danny Maher has come out and said that an A-League license shouldn't be issued to a side who doesn't support both men's and women's football.United announced yesterday they were partnering with Bond University 'in the pursuit of providing an elite Women’s football program of world class standard on the Gold Coast'. The club is hoping their commitment to women's football will set them apart from others as they pursue an A-League license again. “We don’t believe that a licence should be issued to any club that is not interested in pursuing both the women’s and men’s version of the game," Maher said.“It’s not just a men’s sport."We will also bid for a W-League licence,” he said However, the 'Invitation of EOI' has stated: A Respondent may, where relevant, seek to address participation in the W-League and Y-League as part of its EOI Response, however, the expansion of those competitions will not automatically occur in line with expansion of the A-League because there are different factors governing their evolution and growth. So the majority of the teams who have made their EOI have done so without supporting women's football or having announced their intentions for a W-League license as well. The FFA Head of Women's Emma Highwood said earlier this year they were weighing up all their options as to where they want to go with W-League in the future as a full home and away season, better tv rights and expansion are all on the cards.

And cross-town rival Adelaide City might not be far behind it, as it also steps up plans to be part of the competition’s long-term expansion. West was one of a reported 15 sides from across the country to have lodged submissions for A-League inclusion in 2019/20. Confirmation of its bid came ahead of Thursday’s deadline for expressions of interest in the two new licences Football Federation Australia will award in October. West chairman Alex Alexandrou said Adelaide needed two A-League clubs to reinvigorate the game and help it grow across the state. He said the National Premier Leagues SA powerhouse had teamed up with several unnamed partners to strengthen its case for a return to soccer’s elite. “I believe personally and the club believes that there is room for a second (A-League) team in Adelaide,” Alexandrou said. “That’s what we’re working towards. “Our bid involves other parties and we’re only a part of it. “But we’re an integral part of it.” West was a foundation member of the NSL in 1977 and won the league the following season. It left the competition in 1999, but claimed the state’s top flight title 16 years later. West joined fellow NSL alumni South Melbourne, Wollongong Wolves and Brisbane City, as well as a host of start-up franchises, in the bidding process. Alexandrou said the time was right for a local A-League alternative to Adelaide United. “Adelaide sustained two NSL clubs,” Alexandrou said. “I know the field of play has changed immensely, but Adelaide is a sporting town and we definitely need a second team. “The local derbies have proven to be probably the biggest success the A-League has had. “It’s time to embrace everyone.”

They're a freshly purchased NPL license that have borrowed the IP from FFA and only just started playing, A Group of Business men (no members rights) have created it as a vehicle for Sports Gold Coast corporate goals. Yeah, bit confusing, but according to our mate Lucas Radbourne-Pugh ADELAIDE 11 - Backed by former NSL club Adelaide City despite their previous uncertainty over viability and based out of West Adelaide, reportedly aiming to play at Cooper's Stadium.
