+x+x+xWith the draw currently 16 teams, 25 rounds. Next year 17 teams and ultimately we should aim for 20 teams. Then 19 rounds every team plays every other team once, home and away alternate years. Then have a 10 team semi final series that goes on extra week. Bottom 10 teams play a nines tornament mid-week with international teams. Overall 5 weeks carved out for the end of season rep games have SOO in the first 3 weeks and bigger internationals in the last 2 weeks. Players would only have 1 week to back up for SOO, but that adds an additional layer of challenge and is the same for both sides. A 2 week break between SOO games or any other combination is possible. The other option is a few additional derby games at the end of the season with teams playing traditional rivals. In that case 3 weeks of derbys and drop the extra week of semis. I guess we would play, Parra, St Merge and Souths in the derbys. The fact that derbys might impact on the semis, adds to the spice. I would never get tired of making Parra miss the semis. A big no to 20 teams. 120 extra top 30 players. No attempt to expand the game only the number of teams. Too much rubbish being served up now. But that’s the problem. If we don’t expand we continue to lack the talented juniors. Desperately need sides in Perth, second New Zealand and even PNG.
The argument that there isn’t enough talented players has always been short sighted. We can only improve talent if we increase juniors. And it’s very hard to increase juniors without a first grade side to inspire them. The trouble as you say is short sightedness. You don't expand the game by going where you are already strong like Redcliffe, you only expand the number of teams. Perth would be great but go there for the long term and with intent to expand. Don't repeat the games failure in Melbourne who after about 24 years have only had about 4 or 5 juniors come through to first grade. This means that after all these years they are still a nett drain on the same old talent pool.

The expanded TV coverage means more revenue. The AFL did fight hard to stop the Storm getting traction. League is a better game for TV. Expansion wise just determine the ideal number of teams and work towards that. We know 17 isn't right, the choices are 18 or 20.

So it’s not a valid reason for not expanding the competition. It should be done. Other things should be done as well to encourage greater participation.

I think it’s obvious that a second New Zealand team and a Perth side would be viable in the long term. Adelaide is a must if we want a national comp. PNG could be viable.
Mooloolabadog is right though. The game needs to invest long term. Just like the AFL does. Unfortunately the super league war set us back. We were looking good at twenty teams in the 90’s.

Um....20 teams in the 90s should be a Thank You to the super league war, not a "setback". From memory it was in fact superleague that had the foresight to expand the game to new cities as a more national approach - much similar to what the A-league did about a decade later. Alot of people stick the boot into SL but it was certainly more of an innovator than the ARL was always going to be. What is important is the fact that the code was unified and some of the SL concepts have helped the game to where it is now. I don't have a big issue with Redcliffe. But I do have an issue with 17 teams. Not sure why it wasn't done in pairs. A Perth based Bears team will not only give WA juniors a pathway and keep them developing in the game, but it will re-ignite interest from old North Sydney Bears fans who have walked away from the game. Especially if they played afew games at North Sydney oval.

Especially if they played afew games at North Sydney oval. 20 teams was brought in by the ARL in 1995 before the war. The game was expanding well. Super League was just Murdoch buying the game for Foxtel because he wanted to make money. The Packers already had the rights and he attempted to steel them. The game would have been better off without the war.
Super league has only helped to add a Melbourne team and certainly hasn’t helped expand the game.

Reserve grade leading 42-12 with 5 minutes to play, 7 tries.
Young forwards seem to get the job done most weeks.
Plenty of questions around the standard of NSW cup.

We are a bit rusty against the Tigers, not quite nailing the execution.
Not used to being favorite, but these are the occasions where Flanno comes up short.

+xWe are a bit rusty against the Tigers, not quite nailing the execution. Not used to being favorite, but these are the occasions where Flanno comes up short. 100%. In reality, we scored 2 try intercepts and 4 tries from kicks last week so it wasn't exactly constructed try efforts. You can't always rely on those kind of plays. Even our 2 tries here are fummy half individual efforts. Nothing as a team. But as you sat, this is where your halves need to stand up and direct the team. They aren't quite doing it atm but at least getting restarts with good kicks in goal. Need to just time the passes better and have oir guys run onto the ball better. Guys like RFM, Kiraz and Waddel need to run angled runs back inside the defence, not always towards the sideline.

Good enough win in the end.
Good debut from Morrin, shame about the injury, doesn't look too bad.

TPJ is at a fork in the road.
One fork leads to being one of the best forwards in the game, last two weeks that’s where he’s at.
The other fork leads to 6, 8, 12 week suspensions at a time, regularly.
His aggression is his greatest strength and greatest weakness.
If he keeps it in the bottle we’ll win a comp or two off his back in the 20’s.

We scored 30 or more 2 weeks in a row in 2012 and 2013, our 2013 attack was better than I remembered.
2014 must have been the start of the slide.

Anyone else think Averillo might have kicked a field goal at the end?
I am not sure about the ball drop, but I thought it sailed over, my optometrist is also interested.

Vossy on Fox coverage said it was 2016 last time we scored more than 30 in back to back games. 2019 since scored back to back wins and finally broke an 11 game losing streak at Commbank-Wankbest

I thought the same and had to rewind it..... It was just a straight kick. Looked good though and probably should have had a crack at it

I’m delighted to be disappointed that we let in a late try.
Been about 10 f***in’ seasons since that was the major issue to come out of a game.

Love the kid.
What’s so great is the team get behind him and run off his work.
