I think going high with the priority of locking the ball up is a contributor

I know it's hard to police, but you should be allowed to stand still in defence and brace with your shoulder.

It's different to attacking with the shoulder...

The Cam Murray incident is a perfect example. If he was just bracing for the impact  he should be able to turn the shoulder. The attacker running at him knows a shoulder is on and so there is no surprise. It's the unsuspecting shoulder charge that can cause sever whiplash and injury.

So what do you do... re-introduce the 5 metres rule and let them rip into each other... at least that will eliminate the wrestling.

I think we started with your complaint that the refs let the tackle go on too long. If they call it up quickly the NRL realises the players can't  get back the 10. As is usual when a rule is changed it likely causes an unintended  problem.

Mdog, yes my original post was referring to the amount of time the refs let the tackle go on. I understand that he has to be certain that forward momentum is halted  before he calls held, but I believe that sometimes the referee lets it go on way too long and when an offload is presented it almost has the same unfair advantage as passing off the ground.

I think the term used in the laws of the game is progress. Curiously to the NRL sideways and backwards count as progress.

Lol. 12th would have been the minimum safe level for Barrett. But he couldn't even get us there...

Good to see Casey getting another shot, I hope it goes better than last time, it couldn't possibly be worse.

From what I have seen in the lower grades, he looks like a good player, but he needs to do it in the NRL.

TPJ back is big for us.

I agree with Potter, to be a chance we need to defend well.

When Souths get on a roll, they can pile on the points, we are unlikely to win a high scoring shoot out.

Drag them into a contest and out of their comfort zone, that is our best chance.

One key is to mark up well against Cody Walker and that whole side, number up and work together.

Cam Murray out of Souths, good, that makes a difference in attack and defence.

I rate him highly, even at SOO level he makes a difference

The dangerous players are Latrell, Campbell Graham and Johnston.

Put down Johnston for 2 tries now so he doesn't score more.

Latrell is close to impossible to stop, for the others we can limit their chances.

Murray is still a big out for them, it at least means we have an outside chance.

Reserve grade 2 tries to Skelton playing in the centres, I think 2nd game for the club.

Even better Yileen Gordon playing for Souths reserves, is this the same guy his son or a common first name?

Ok effort first half, just need to cut down the errors.

Pass from Flanno after running behind a player and drop from Wardell cost us.

Close enough if good enough.

And the last two tries that killed us.. first was a def forward pass from mitchell and johnsons right foot was on the line and the cheating fvckwits in the bunker "cleared" both of them... when are these fvckwits with the whistles going to lay off us.

I don't remember getting any calls this game.

Still dropped balls and bad defensive misses cost us, we let them score too many.

We were absolutely well and truly ripped off by the knucklehead with the whistle tonight. Latrell blatanly grabs the Fox by his face and brings him down, Walker slaps Flanno in the face in thr in goal and no response from the knucklehead and the blatant high tackle on one of our boys (cant remember, had a few extra beers) results in nothing and in thr same tackle he gets penalised for a drop ball. Fairdinkum, Souffs are indeed a protected species.

Yeah that was a bad call, it seemed to happen after held was called.

They could have told him to play the ball.

Yep. There were a number of calls that were just blatantly wrong and should have been dealt with properly. They weren't. We gave up our challenge early and it hurt us for the next 60mins.

Still pissed off the bunker cannot correct a poor ref blunder. Stuff the traditionalists. Use the damn technology and get the bloody calls right.

The ref didn’t help. But we had a great game, the boys should hold their heads high. Casey looked great. Was great to see him bounce back. Flanno and Burto seeing early ball with more space, forwards are keeping out of the way not being link men to the halves. Potter moving Avo to fullback has been one of the most important decisions but equally keeping Jacko and other forwards away from first receiver has done wonders for our attack. Baz was terrible for us.

The press conference was interesting. When Potter was credited for the improved team performances Jacko didn’t agree. And he even defended Baz by saying it was more the team clicking finally. Maybe I read into it too much but I thought it was poor by Jacko.

Potter certainly shouldn’t be signed on to coach long term yet. But if we continue to improve and we don’t sign an experienced coach he should be given a full season to see if he can do the job.

Best part of the game for me was the Casey bust, for the Averillo try.

Flanno threw the last pass for that and the Vaughan try.

So 2 try assists, and credit where credit is due, his support play is good.

IMO inspite of his knightmare debut, Casey is good on the wing.

Which brings me to HD's totally left field suggestion. Foxy has played in the halves in the lower grades. I know he probably can't kick, but as a passer, ball runner and support player, Foxy is as good as it gets.

His defence is suspect, but if we want to entertain and keep the scoreboard ticking over for both  teams, Foxy for halfback. If not  Foxy then go with BBO.

A half with X-factor and a running game would take our attack to the next level, especially off offloads.

Thanks for the gear Dman, I hope I haven't posted anything silly 😉

Potter and Jacko are being diplomatic.

Jacko genuinely thinks Baz can coach, and that Baz has improved his game.

Even when we lose I find it hard to identify much that Potter has done wrong.

This game I though Morrin should have got more minutes, but Morrin seemed off the pace.

I don't know if our wingers and centres had a plan to not catch the ball. Kiraz in particular should catch kicks he is good at it.
