+x+x+x+xInteresting… Bunker checking a no try ruling… Ref says after a couple of replays “he (bloke with ball) is ready to play it”… I assume that meant don’t keep looking… So we now have ref making a call, bunker tipping ref, then ref tipping bunker… I’ve see it happen regularly where the players no it’s a no try and are ready to live on… Im glad we didn’t have to watch 27 replays… but sadly the ref tipping the bunker will eventually lead to more than one stuff up… I would love to see the statistics on controversial decisions made by the video ref compared to the ref making the call. I would not be surprised if the video ref is making as many questionable rulings as the refs on the field. And if so. Gould has a point. Video ref only use is to check grounding if the ball. Nope. It's just that the public acknowledges the on field ref has split second decision and only 1 view shot to make a decision. The video ref has more time and angles but I'd making decisions based on millimetres or fraction of a second. My thoughts on the bunker is that they should view the slo-mo replays but only make their final decision upon viewing the incident in normal speed and make a call on that basis. Too many decisions are given on technicalities when in real time, players had absolutely no chance of altering their play. This is particularly important on kick pressure tackles or high shots. Watching slo mo then making a decision based on the normal speed replay is completely unworkable… For ‘em refs and fans… ”OK Sutto, based on the slo mo replay every viewer has seen 17 times, he’s clearly short of the line, but it looked ok in real time so TRY”… I guess it's the penalty actions that should be looked at in real time. When they slow down some high tackles (when the attacker actually falls into the "high shot" or when they rule late hit on a kicker.... Those penalties piss me off coz you simply can't pull-out but on slow mo it looks like they have enough time

I would be happy with the ref on the field reviewing plays on a screen on the sideline. That would probably be better than another ref who isn’t in the game officiating.

+x+x+xAre we getting value from Burton at half. Is his involvement satisfactory. Round 12: Burton 39 receipts Moses fifties Hynes seventies Clearly nineties Even Bronco's stand in Madden, almost sixty. He needs to get involved or we need a new half back. You can't perform if you're not involved. We def need to get more out of him, and he is growing… and he would be well aware of what he needs to do… not even 1.5 years as a first grade half… 4 weeks as a 7… he needs a little more time… HD makes fair points re quality of possession… To compare one stat from one game with Cleary, Hynes, and even the $6M dollar man (won nothing, never will) doesn’t really tell us the whole story… In Rd 12 Fox Sports stats (not that these tell the whole story either or maybe even any story…) Burto - 3 try assists, 1 line break, 5 tackle busts. Munster - 0 TA, 0 LB, 1 TB Hughes - 2 TA , 0 LB, 2TB Cleary - 0, TA 2 LB, 6 TB Luai - 1,0,1 $6M - 4,0,2 Brown - 1,1,4 Hynes - 0,1,3 Madden - 0,0,0 Mam - 0,0,3 Walker - 3,1,3 Ilias - 0,0,2
Anyway… yes he needs to get his hands on the ball more regularly and I expect he will as he and the squad grow…
Not saying you are, but I’m stunned at the number of self anointed experts writing him off on fan pages…Didn’t realise how many kids coaches knew more about footy than Gus and CC…
Not that they will voice their opinions publicly but I reckon CC and Gus are well aware of Burton's (let's say) meek assertiveness in the halves. And that's at both 5/8th and Halfback. I think the positional change was equally as much to force him into first receiver role as it was to ease KO into first grade. The league experts like A Johns, Thurston and co have been less silent on the matter.... That could be why he is playing 7. We don't know what CC and Gus are planning. Burton is our best player, in fact many people including so called experts think we are a "one man team". While I don't agree, take him out of the side and we will not score many points, that should be odvious to even a super negative footy fan.

The next 2 games are big for us.
Of course I am hoping for 2 wins and that would really set our season up.
The Chooks have got a bad case of bird flu, time to throw them on the barbie.
Slimeys will be a tougher proposition, especially the forwards, I am hoping that we have Kicks back and TPJ fires up.
One win, one loss, more or less changes nothing.
2 losses leaves us off the pace.
If we are signing a player before June 30th, we might have them for the slimeys game.
Ben Hunt, Tristian Sailor or a prop are the only players I would expect us to sign. I couldn't guess who the prop would be, it will not be Haas.

Need to expand on our attack if we want to be a top 8 team and alot of that needs to come from selective passing, players in motion, hitting the ball at speed and hole running. I don't agree we are a one man team but concerned we have become a one trick pony.

Not sure what the Dogs were planning this Bye week but this gives the team the opportunity to train without Burton and forced to introduce new ideas in the halves.

It amazes me the amount of pressure put on the shoulders of Nathan Cleary in this year's origin series....
You've got Andrew Johns and afew other experts saying the stage is set for Cleary to step up and own an origin series...
I mean....this guy is arguably one of the best players in the world, already proven to be a big game player and they are still wanting him to carry the Blues to origin series victory....
How about focusing on the rest of the team performance and cut him some slack. He wasn't the sole reason NSW lost last year... In fact he was probably less responsible than most others.
I'm not too fussed either way as I support QLD in origin, but I'm just surprised they have singled out Cleary ahead of others....

Thompson is the guy struggling to make much progress. I don't know anything, just giving the best case scenario.

Latrell being out changes the odds. With Turbo, Latrell and Teddy in the backline, NSW are hard to beat.

Should it happen, I can absolutely guarantee that Marki will be bitterly disappointed with the team selection and the way we play. I suspect Marki thought that the the Beetles, Stones and Pink Floyd were rubbish, but Bucks Fizz was the best thing to ever happen to music.

When he called out Burton for not doing enough, it was genuine and legitimate. But calling out Cleary just because they lost game 3 last year?? That was bewildering. The bloke has nailed every clutch play and just came off B2B GF wins.... This came from no where.

Double edged sword that one... Take Burton out of the team and we are forced to find points through other means than the kick. Keep him there and we depend on it and go through the motions till it's "acceptable" to put the kick in. Yes, he is largely responsible for our most of our points, but most of those are from kicks. Need to expand on our attack if we want to be a top 8 team and alot of that needs to come from selective passing, players in motion, hitting the ball at speed and hole running. I don't agree we are a one man team but concerned we have become a one trick pony. As I type that, I hear Latrell is out is out of SOO with a calf strain, with Stephen Crighton replacing him and Burton coming into the squad as 18th man. Not sure what the Dogs were planning this Bye week but this gives the team the opportunity to train without Burton and forced to introduce new ideas in the halves. Love how you think CC isn’t working new ideas or doesn’t have a plan… you some some silly stuff for Australia’s greatest kids coach… My kids are winning.... And against more fanciful opponents I might add... What did Joey and HT say about your opponents???…

+x+x+xIt amazes me the amount of pressure put on the shoulders of Nathan Cleary in this year's origin series.... Maybe cut Burton some slack while you’re at it I suspect Marki thought that the the Beetles, Stones and Pink Floyd were rubbish, but Bucks Fizz was the best thing to ever happen to music. He was "making his mind up".

New signing Ethan Quai-Ward straight into the top 30. From our feeder club the Broncos, probably helping us get ready for Pain Haas. (misspelling intentional) Seems to be a right side centre / winger.

And I have a lot of confidence that Burto will end up turning into a great halfback.
Maybe I’m deluded

Maybe I’m deluded At least us deluded fans are supporting the club. I would rather back the Dogs to the hilt and be totally wrong, than rubbish the club and be right. My best guess is that fans who have faith will be vindicated.... Haas will be great if it happens, but I prefer to be pleasantly surprised on this one. Gus does have a good record of getting and keeping the players he wants. And he seems to spend a lot of time watching some players in the lower grades. It seems like Gus has found "Bullfrog's how to build a club" manual on a dusty shelf where it hasn't been looked at for 20 years.
