If I was penrith board, I'd sack Phil Gould the day after the Penrith lose their first finals game...

What an idiot.

It'd take a Birthday cake moment or a Mark Latham handshake moment. Either are possible but that's what it will take. I reckon The Libs have two chances, probably need them combined - The above and the electorate deciding it don't want PM number 8 in 10 years just for embarrassment's sake.

I don't know what The Libs can do to help themselves, especially with this war which is far from over. The Cons dropped the bomb and it fell on them, they're furious and won't just give it all up now.

Zef, do you think the general sentiment amongst the public is that the government has done a good job in their tenure or bad one?

Ate their future election policies that bad that the Australian public has had enough and wants to oust them?
I would have thought the only thing in the minds of the voting public would be whether they thought Labor could do a better job or not.

In my opinion the government has done a good job and I judge them on that. I have no confidence that the opposition could do better.

I dont believe it's a landslide swing as you suggest. The polls are a crap indicator. Bi-elections are a better guide but I still think on a national level it's even pegging.

So who is going to ask Shorten about the cost of the birthday cake...a classic moment of wishing the earth would open up if ever there was one. I truly believe Shorten could lose it on his own.

Shorten has already lost it simply by the fact of being Shorten.
If the ALP want to have any chance then they should start their own leadership musical chairs.

Look, I'd never write of The Libs in a two horse race, but they're at looooooooooong odds, maybe the longest they've ever been. But yes, they can win it. However if they do it won't because Morrison done a Keating and won the unwinnable, it'll be because Shorten did a Hewson and lost the unloseable.

It's Shorten's to lose, and he could do that. But I doubt even Hewson could lose it from here.

And The Lib Civil War is far from over either, and it won't be until either the Mods or Cons are dead.

Morrison hates Hadley so that is a start....shorn of the requirement to be somewhat sedate he could be the best since Keating in winning the unwinnable

Zef I agree with the issues you raise re non compulsory voting. What I was arguing is that compulsory voting also has major flaws. A system where people had to vote but for a valid vote to be made at least a basic understanding of the process and Westminster system and what candidates stood for would have to be proven It’ll never happen I know but one can be ambitious

You got to remember when you start setting standards of who's allowed to vote or not, maybe you won't meet the standard.

And if so will you accept it?

Bwahaahaha!

This is all the funniest f***in' thing. The Neo Cons planned this so carefully, had the bomb lit and ready to place, and like Willy Coyote it's blown up in their face.

They hate Morrison 2nd only to Turnbull, indeed many even more than Turnbull as they see Morrison as a traitor and so reserve that special kind of traitor's hatred towards him. And Fydenburg as his deputy! Bwahahaha! The two architects and biggest supporters of what they hate most, The NEG and Paris agreement, now #1 & #2.

Bwhahahahaha!

Mal actually won this week, sure he's not PM no more but he made sure his two biggest supporters got the gig in front of the Neo Cons. Even this morning, making The Potato run around like an errand boy getting signatures and all the rest when all along he knew he was gonna blow him out of the water. Mal's best work in 10 years in Parliament.

Bwahahahahaha!

I can't wait to watch Skynews after dark tonight, all the wingnuts come out at night like Credlin, Bolt and the fat kid. They will be absolutely apocalyptic! This is not how it was supposed to happen!

Schadenfreude! Schadenfreude! Schadenfreude!

Or better still get some 6 year olds, they are good at this game...

On more important issues. I am really excited about Lachlan Lewis. His calmness with his competitiveness could take him a long way to leading the club back to success. Plus the fact that Holland Martin and Smith are improving every week. And finally Dean Pay is doing a terrific job with the cards he has been dealt

All I know is that Trump (as president of usa) is powerful and protected.

I'm yet to be proven wrong.

Saying "I'm yet to be proven wrong" is no argument, if anything it's just giving up trying.

For eg: Everything I've been saying, on the same subject, in direct contradiction to you -

I'm yet to be proven wrong.

Albo is a shot duck as well IMO..too much baggage Libs can use. They need a near clean skin...possibly Dreyfuss or Clare?

Albo's been in Parliament as Deputy PM, as Minister, as front-bencher, for a 100 years. Anything The Libs have got they've already thrown at him and he's still the most popular Labor politician by plenty and not far off the most popular overall, in fact he probably is.

All water off a ducks back.

Well if there's one way to get there in a hurry it's to make it so party's only have to win the votes of their base. With non compulsary voting it's not the party with the most votes who wins, it's the party who can get the most people to vote. Zealots are the most likely to vote, so they try to win the zealots - the base. It's the indifferent middle who keep us away from far right and left  populism.

The best Lib is in The Senate, but probably un-electable as PM even if he moved to The House because of his accent - Cormann. Though who knows, perhaps people wouldn't care about a PM who sounds Dutch. The best Lib in The House is Fydenberg.

And it's reflected in The Labor Party. The best of Labor's in The Senate - Wong. But maybe she's got the same problem as Corman, you know... how do i be delicate about this... the lesbian thing and maybe even being an Asian PM thing. I'll say I got no problem with either or a even Dutchy in Cormann but the Australian people? The best of Labor in the house is, who else but Albo of course.

Now people on either side of politics might have a problem with one or all of the four I just named, but whether you disagree with their politics or not, i don't think too many could dispute that if any of them were PM and/or Opposition Leader at the same time, at least politics would at last be a contest of BELIEF'S, instead of personal politics and ambition.

Albo is a shot duck as well IMO..too much baggage Libs can use. They need a near clean skin...possibly Dreyfuss or Clare?

Yep.
The last thing we need is to have 60% of the population not vote, yet somehow find a voice to stick it to the elected leader once they are in power.

I just watched the no confidence motion debate in the senate. Any one who thinks that Pauline Hanson has any semblance of intelligence is kidding themselves.
You really should have to pass a literacy test before being able to stand for Parliament.

On another point you should have to pass a test showing that you understand the political system and what candidates stand for before you are able to vote.

Compulsory voting has too many flaws.
