Dman...... surely my bowling averages are better than your mate Mitchell Marsh’s aren’t they?I’m voting for the great man..... Fawad Ahmed (what a name) to jag a spot at the SCG testBest ever spin bowler to play the game was Mushtaq Ahmed.... Ol’ Mush

He was great but sometimes I felt he was just trying to do trick spin bowls rather than get the blokes out...Horace Lindrum could do all the trick shots but he wasn't Walter

Even if that happens....the scoring rate has been so slow, all they need is to lose abit of time with rain and there will be no result.

Series will be locked at 1-1 and we head to Sydney.

You underestimate our ability to collapse...

If India finish the day 500 or close to, they have put the game in a position where either they win or its a draw...perfect position at end of day 2...

If they draw by only a wicket or two it'll be because we've batted well, or they've bowled poorly not because of the run rate...

Stick to the crocket Marki, its more your flashy style...

You'd have probably ar5ed a wicket with a full toss on leg stump...
Marsh bowled well without luck yesterday, but not an effort that vindicates his selection; even with that pitch, and giving quicks a rest....
Fuzzy certainly can turn a ball...

Rubbish Dman.
This Test was crap halfway through day 1 and I just tuned in and it's probably worse. I'm glad I played golf in the heat today rather than watch that crap.
I dont know if I should blame the curator for the pitch, India for the negative play or Australia for bowling tight.
Disgraceful test match cricket.

At least u acknowledged the tight bowling and pitch...
Virat&co. don't care if you're enjoying it or not... A drawn series will suit them fine, they have the trophy in their possession (though I'm sure kohli wants to win)...
I can tell u I haven't enjoyed much either, but I'm loving it...
We grassed acouple of chances that may have lead to virat not being able to declare...
Give it a day and we can argue about india enforcing the follow on... Or us declaring 199 behind to make a game of it for you...

As one of the BDP's foremost test cricket experts Marki, what would be your plan as Aussie Captain now to restore the credibility of the series?....
Try to bat at 7 an over for 100 overs and bowl India out for less than 250 over a day and a bit...
Or...
Declare 199 behind and chase down 330 in the last four and a half sessions...
Or...
Just give up and play for a draw like those disgraceful Indians... They started it...

No no no. Kohli doesn't want to Captain the second (I think) Indian team to draw a series in Aus, Kohli wants to Captain the first Indian team to win in Aus.

It's a little something to our advantage actually, he's gonna take risks at some stage. Probably already has really - an Indian Captain declaring sub 600, when was the last time that happened?

Mind you, we have to be good enough to make him take risks, and to start that'll mean batting well into Day 4.

You can't blame the players, Ind or Aus, batsman or bowlers.

It's another sh.t pitch, maybe marginally better or marginally worse than last years shocker and that's the best that can be said about it. Ball's got no pace off the pitch past the first dozen or so overs with new ball. Like bowling pies, like trying to hit balloons.

Play out the draw and hope to win the toss in sydney.
Once the toss is won, send them in. At least we'll know what to chase in 4th innings.

I hate this kind of pitch.

With the game situation all that the aussies can do is bat long and throw the bat at the end,  then hope India fall in a heap or the pitch falls apart.

The only possible results are a lucky win to either side or a draw.

In fact if the aussies get to 0/50, I expect India to set defensive fields and play for a draw.

The worst part is that this pitch doesn't encourage positive play, this kind of lame dead pitch threatens to kill off test cricket. The game is so much better with juice in the wicket.

India still with a good chance to win.. They'll be backing themselves to take our last ten wickets in a day and a bit at most... This pitch will be tough to 'stay in" on come day 5...
If the Aussies are bowled our before tea tomorrow India will bat again and be the ones throwing it...
By the same token, maybe a couple of our batsmen will step up in both innings and the game meanders to a draw...

There is no time Dman.
If India want to win, follow-on is their only risk-free chance.
There will be some rain tomorrow. Not sure if they will make up the overs.
Why on earth would they waste a session batting in order to post an additional 100-180 runs and potebtially starve themselves of getting the aussies out in only 3 or 4 sessions?
I've never understood this.

I believe the game has technically been played wrong over the years and has only been vindicated by a stacked set of result which suggests not enforcing the follow-on is the correct decision.

I dont have the stats but I'm confident there would have been more wins lost by not enforcing follow-on rather doing so. The silver living to the current mentality is that you probably dont lose the game.....

But if you're actually trying to WIN the Test, the technically correct way is my way.

Exactly. And it's the lesson Marki won't even consider.

He (and Dravid) not only won the Test in one day, they won the series too.

And that's the risk you gamble on, if enforcing  the follow-on backfires on you, then in the modern era of back to back Tests and 4 Test in four weeks series, you could blow not only the Test but the whole series,

Three days in the field you just don't recover from it when the next Test is 5 days away.

The follow on is from the era when in Aus we used to have the First Test at the end of Nov and the last on Australia Day.
