+x2019 hopoate looks set 2 own the fullback roll , nick meany did alright in his 1st nrl game but looks way 2 light , lets see what dean pay will do with his comments we still have some recruiting 2 do wonder who will come ,like i said izack luke is in talks but what happens if he comes or not is a different story He would more than likely be referring to a centre or two BUT I would suggest not in a million years Mr Luke. Now say perchance Luke would be interested in joining the club...it would not be he who makes contact...it would be his manager. Players would only be brought into the game late in the piece when interest has actually been established. I don't know if he is still managed by the (appropriately named) 'Orr brothers but that is how it would happen. Darren Smith is about the only player who didn't use a manager as far as I know, so I douby if Luke has chosen that path.

+xWhat's the verdict on Meaney? Negatives ..... far too light, has no idea how to tackle, Abbey anyone? Positives ..... only his 1st game, made a couple runs, tried to push up in attack. I wanted to watch it but last thing I remember was Cronulla leading Penrith midway during the 2nd half in the earlier match....next thing I woke up at some ungodly hour next to a pile of empty Choc/Coconut wrappers....no idea how that could've happened.

Had a big healthy meal during the first half, but it was at half time I remembered those things were there. Pure and precise but quite generous at the same time, showing some hints at the development that’ll happen over the coming decade or two. Seems simple on initial approach: lime curd, Granny Smith apples and Packham pears. A little sulphury to start, with a very tightly wound but fleshy palate. The sulphur reminds me of how it adds another dimension of complexity & then dissipates like a morning river mist. I’d want to say something about minerality & tannins, but I know you would scoff. Regardless, reminds me of wet slate and salty shells.

It would be nice to quote Monty Python's sketch on Australian Table Wines but the bouquet bit would not please the pc advocates...BTW I still haven't worked out if the Wine Chap is having a lend of us or "the tartness of a pomegranate with hyacinth overtones" is real

I liked what I seen of Meaney. Yes defense needs work but why is anyone ever surprised at that when a bloke steps into NRL? It's about 1 in 20 that come into NRL in any position with NRL standard defense so don't be so surprised. And what will help him is that at 20 he's 90k's and clears 6ft which is a good size, there's 5k+ in him just by growing and they could add what they want to that by weights, so he's not gonna be a small fullback and the thing that will help his defense the most is getting some more size on him.
But what I liked, really liked was his sniffing, he was sticking his nose in everywhere trying to get into the attack.
He'll be fine I think, won't happen immediately - sorry Marki, no "one game" and you know everything you need to know on this one. Because he needs time and size and neither come in one game, or two or ten or even in a season. The boy needs to grow. But I'd start him next year at #1 and play him there until or unless form says otherwise and I'd be giving him plenty of leeway because he'll be better in '20 than he will be in '19 and giving him as much time on field in '19 as possible will help that.
And on another note - Mitch Moses and Nick Meaney, separated at birth? I've seen twins that don't look alike as much as them two.

Zef, I also like what I saw of Meaney and I don't have a problem with players that come into first grade and fail while having a go.... Its the ones that show they don't even want to have a go or just don't have that x-factor edge that should be dropped back to reserves. If Meaney comes on next year and plays like last night (some good with some bad) im all for it, especially since I believe we will be a bottom 4 club. But if we happen to be a finals contender and he is making critical mistakes (fullback mistakes usually hurt on the scoreboard) then I think Pay will need to reconsider putting the safer Hoppa back there. I understand the end game and all that, but the club has to approach every season as a chance to win a comp or excel as much as possible first and foremost. If there is a chance for top 8, Pay has to play his best side. That might mean safe at the back at the risk of losing some attack.

The almond ones are here as well, haven't tried those either, trying not to think about it before lunch.. Chris Crighton seemed to have a quiet match for Penrith. The most notable moment seemed to be fumbling the ball over the line for a no try. Probably more of an awkward situation that talent related. Cronulla tend to drag other teams into a grind so not surprised there wasn't much happening for him. The more first grade experience the merrier before he starts with C'bury next year.

We are trying hard just lacking a bit of strike in attack. .
Dutchy still a bit suspect. ..
The 2nd Souths try was good play from tgem, we didn't do a lot wrong. .... mainly Cook finding 2 markers on the ground. ... we had a problem from that point on.

Is there anything worse than supporting a team that is fighting for a top 8 spot every week?
You go grey-er every minute....you chew the crap out of your fingernails.... and your tv is threatened with just about every bad thing that goes against you.
How my walls survived watching that Hawthorn game is a mystery. So many times i pictured Hawks player faces on my wall and it seemed apt that i try to put my fist through them

May have throw a tantrum here or there on the close games (like last week) but otherwise i havent been angry or on edge.... Hawks however have aged me 10 years in 4 months

Holland is clearly not a first grade player, I hope he along with Lichaa are nowhere near first grade next year....
The guys are trying, but it’s so slow motion at times.... the bombs by JMK have absolutely no one chasing them
Can’t wait till the season is over...... yet again!

At least the team is trying hard and there are some signs of improvement compared to last year.
A win next week is important. ... I hope we can end the season well.
Souths in that form always likely to be a bit too good compare the teams man for man - around 14 out of 17 Souths have the better player...

I only saw the second half and that was enough to show me that they are genuinely building solid cornerstones to help us for a few seasons to come. At least the Desball has disappeared from their game.

I have a feeling i would have been more proud watching the dogs even though they lost. Ill watch a replay...

They have kind of flown under the radar with emphasis being on the Dragons and Penrith. They've put together a good team with only notable recruit being Gagai. Cook, G Jennings and Kennar have improved greatly and AR and Sutton have come back and in strong form. Add the Burgess bros returning to top form and you have a pretty good team. I normally dislike Souths but given this is essentially their own developed team, i dont feel too bad

L Lewis will be a very good player in the years to come..... as a ball playing lock forward!
With some more meat (6-9kg’s) on him, he can be an extremely valuable asset to our team
I like this kids tenacious efforts & defence as well

The play of some of these players just isn't good enough. So frustrating to watch at the game. If Holland is centre next year I don't think I will renew my membership. I will say again Priest is a dud if they re-sign him I give up.

Unfortunately we’ve got to see out the season with some of these duds Nancy in first grade....
I know Nu Brown has an error or two in his game, but the kid needs a little confidence & a little more game time..... his 5 min cameo today delivered a massive line break and a some clean crisp ball, but Pay will stick with that log Lichaa along with Holland & Priest etc
I’m about to add Fualalo to that hitlist very soon..... this guy is built like a tank/Taulmalolo yet brings fekk all. He’s now played 1st grade for 3yrs.... now much more time does he need to develop his bloody game & deliver more??
Hoppa was tremendous today, I haven’t said that too many times this year, but his work rate & involvement today was better than anything Mbye dished out in the first 15 rounds
Pay needs for 2019:-
1 x No.9 2 x Centres.... so far we’ll have just Hoppa that is 1st grade material, we need more strike/speed 1 if not 2 x Props..... unfortunately Priest & Fualalo are not 1st graders in any other NRL team! If Klemmer gets injured.... we are totally fekked
