And I reckon you can lock in Corey Harawira-Naera and if we run with a utility, which i think is likely, you can also lock in JMK.

Two spots - Martin must be a chance but having missed out on a starting spot maybe not, I think the other two will be props.

type your messageDarn bad and sad news. All too frequently we hear of ex elite contact sport sportsmen suffering from some form, of dementia. They did a big study of this in USA. I wonder if anyone has done similar studies here.

I was still pretty young in the mid 70's but I remember going to see guys like Tim Pickup play at Belmore.
Bill Noonan was another one that paid a hefty price in later years for all the heavy contact to the head etc.
I'm glad they've tried to remedy the situation to protect the modern players, but it hasn't been doing the former players that played for a much lesser wage much good.
I remember from Wests in those days, a player called John "Dallas" Donnelly. He was only 30 or 40 years old, went for a swim at the beach & simply died in the water, but not from drowning. It was a brutal sport in those days.

I wonder if goal kicking will give Martin an edge in terms of getting a starting spot?

The listed squad shows what I always knew we have great depth in the forwards.

Any time a team wins a comp there are always 2 unlucky players that don't make the final 17, not saying we will win it but you need that kind of depth.

I saw a bit of the legends game, I agree with the commentators, the players looked fit and slick.

I am sure we have improved heaps, it looks like all other teams have as well, I am also sure that depth is going to come in very handy at some stage.
Hopefully handy enough to edge us into the 8, think kind of season rounds 1-5 will be big, a slow start put the pressure on early wins are like gold.
I'm expecting a great season, not just form a Dogs point of view, I think the standard of game should be high.

They do need to speed up the game, and cut down on time wasting, spectators pay to see action, not guys slowing trudging off the field after a sin bin, not guys arguing with the ref, not endless bunker replays of a marginal call. Any 50/50 bunker call should be "no try" and get on with it.

Def looks like he's got the goods... Natural ability, still to grow into his body, hes got what seems a pretty good support structure around him at the club... The rest is up to him... Cmon BigM!!!!!....

If the 14th immortal maintains or improves his form from the back end of the year at centre, those lamenting the lack of a strike centre will be hailing the new Ben Harris...
(Let's see if I can draw Nancy out with that one)...

Love Harper but he isn't readfy for 1st grade yet and his family think the same  going by their comments at Belmore the other week.

Yeah I think Martin's form cannot be ignored.
In my mind, he will be in the starting 13 but definitely in the 17.
We arent a high scoring team so converting a high percentage of tries into 6 points is vital.
The fact that Martin has excelled in ISP (2 x GFs), NRL, and even for PNG in Test games tells me he is way ahead of both RFM and CHN.
I'll go as far as saying he is the first picked in the team ahead of anyone else.

Just saw the news this morning. Very sad news about Tim Pickup, I hope they find him safe.

He has been on the decline for years.  Hopefully he is found safe.  If he didn't get injured playing for Australia we would have won a couple more comps. Terrific player and a very funny bloke off the field.

Yeah but he seems like one of those players who can be fast tracked.

Realistically 1-2 games of NRL this year, next year 100% ready for NRL IMO.

Two of my absolute favourite players there, Bill Noonan was my favourite Dogs player for a few years.

Phil Charlton was the other prop in those days. Both guys stayed at Canterbury for 9 years before finishing the 70's at Newtown.
I haven't heard anything on how Phil Charlton is doing these days. Hopefully well.

It's a worry about Tim Pickup because the same news story occurred exactly a year ago when Bill Noonan vanished for a while (both dementia).
They eventually found Bill but no word on Tim...

Unfortunately, all these guys are getting old, and the game was played tough in that era.

I hope Tim is OK, great talent when at his best. Most players want fans to remember them at their peak, that is how I remember our players.

My late grandfather was another person who went through that (he played cricket with Bradman for what it's worth).
The last year of his life, it got really bad for him, the doctors had to keep him at the hospital, but he was a frequent vanisher as well.
One day they found him wandering around amongst highway traffic in his pyjamas & when confronted he was convinced he was hunting rabbits (he wasn't a city boy, that's for sure).

This home invasion - death I feel will have some more twists and turns....

I mean, what business does a muscle man like that have in someone else's house whilst the owners are in there? He doesnt look like he is poor and looking to steel a VCR, so unless the owner had an 85inch samsung TV and the bandit wanted to see if he could carry it, it can only point to being under influence of drugs (at which karma came and got him) or he knows the owner and we dobt know the full story yet.....

Interesting to see how this unfolds....

Just on the topic..... authorities say you can use reasonable force to protect yourself, family and property....

Does that mean you can use a driver on the bandits head or a wedge? I kinda like the wedge....

The broomstick...

It is all about perception...how can any court say the home owner didn't feel threatened. He didn't know if the intruder had a concealed weapon. This case the intruder was a muscle bound guy...I would mot like the prospect of going toe to toe with him. It would be a grave miscarriage if the  police chrged him with anything. The intruder was not a 97 lb weakling. And it has been reported he had mental issues. The guy should be lauded not condemned.

Glad to hear he's well. It sounds like he's more of a legendary character than ever. As was Bullfrog for keeping him & Bill at the club for 9 years. I can't think of any other instance the same 2 props have stayed at a club for 9 years. Certainly not recently. Maybe the old dominant Souths & St George teams did decades ago, not sure, I wasn't around then.
